I think that the MP team should have to run their ideas past the SP team.  Between this and the typhoon firing modern day bullets for some reason, I have to wonder if the MP team knows much of anything about Mass Effect's lore.

I really don't understand this issue. They're under as much threat as everyone else and if they've got some useful skills to add (and the ones they have don't seem too at odds with the volus, unless Biotic God aside there's some codex entry I've forgotten saying they don't have any biotics) then of course they'll fight, even if it's not their preferred method of sorting out conflicts. They seem to die easily, which is consistent with the lore about them.

The Volus don't have any inherent combat abilties.  They've been retconned into multiplayer, and their sudden gain of advanced biotic powers, tech powers, tactical cloak, and agility has been explained as resulting from this advanced suit of armor they apparently now have.  The problem is, if this technology exists, it exists for anyone to use.  If the Volus wanted to help the war effort, they would buy this advanced armor for races that actually engage in combat.  The idea that they would strap on some armor themselves, grab a gun, and head out into the thick of battle is ludacrious and violates everything we've been told about them.

At first I was skeptical about the short dudes as a support class idea. But then...
First match I played as a Volus was in Firebase Dagger. As soon as I got to the overlook window, I cracked up: the Volus is too short to shoot out the window! Image IPB
Then, just because, I decided to put a Widow on my Volus Adept. The gun is bigger than he is!! Image IPB The best part: I was 2nd on the scoreboard.. oh yeah.

My recommendation to all Volus out there: paint your Volus in bright blue and red colors, slap an Adrenaline Mod III on him, and hum Sonic the Hedgehog''s tune while you zip across the map! Priceless! Image IPBImage IPB

They are fun and funny! And, what's even better, they are actually useful!!

A welcome addition to the roster. Good job Bioware.

I have to admit, just like others have, Volus is just too funny.  First match i tried to crouch behind an object and i just rolled and rolled and laughed and laughted! It definitely makes us find new ways to fight other than out the window or over the ledge.  It keeps things fresh and new.  I left my class at Lv. 20 so when I got this little adapt it was easy to level up.  I have run 4 extraction with him so far and many times have saved others with cloak! Man he is quick! Good point Chstapeler makes with Adrenaline Mod no one would be able to catch Volus this side of the galaxy - or better yet cloak on one side of the map, run and zap the ememy on the other side of the map.  It's a humours addition to game play, especially with two on the map at the same time! Let's see an all out Volus squad on the weekend mission.  Apart from that when I strap on the Mattock I have usually scored second or third on the scoreboard to my surprise.  Finally I also scored the Havoc and i really love the jet packs, not necessarily slamming across the map to kill a group of ememies but using the jet pack to move along the map ~ it sure beats running or rolling and as I said before, it keeps things fresh.

And didn't the single player team change alliance weapons from infinite ammo to needing thermal clips?  Besides, the typhoon 'ammo' as you call it is small thermal clips being ejected so what is the problem.

Thermal clips are not ammunition.  The guns still operate the same way, they just changed the way they deal with overheating.  The typhoon is spitting out shell casings, not small thermal clips.  That's an incredibly stupid reasoning that the fanbase came up with for why it operates like a modern gun while still working on thermal clips.  The fact is much simpler: the people who designed it don't know how guns in ME work.

Typhoon could  be a relic from earth converted to use thermal clips. If Prothean relics can be used, why not human ones that are much more readily available? ;)

The point is anything can be explained to make it fit. ME is not a harcore sciency sci-fi universe. It's much closer to a science fantasy.

They are... meh...
If people like it then good for them. I like playing support (In my book a sniper is called Support) but these little buggers are too much support oriented, not good for guerrilla warfare even with there tactical cloak as melee.

Just release some more Infiltrators please... I can use those well ^_^.

Perhaps the technology uses the huge amounts of pressure that is normally output by a Volus suit to be able to operate. In that case, no, everyone would not have it.

Also, as far as I know, the Volus only have two unique abilites. the biotic balls and the shield booster. Those can both be explained in a similar fashion. Volus' shape and mass could easily be what allows the spheres to float around them and the shield boost is an advanced support tech, something that most operatives would pass on as they aren't support.

I still want a option to kick my volus teammates over and roll them into enemy lines, could make great bait ]:-D

They should do that for when you use that Sheld and have a Krogan bash you into enemies

Haven't unlocked any yet but really want try the little guys out. BTW did anyone else feel "protective" a Volus on your team? Played with the two classes, Fem Quarian Eng + Volus Eng = pretty effective if the Quarian Engineer(Me) realizes they can't hop over obstacles, leaving your buddy to get a**hammered by the enemy.

Genius idea for the Kamikaze Collectors, send in the Volus, but the Krogan has to catch him after the explosion:wizard:

I love my volus so much I named him Chris Priestly; after the rotund gentleman who spreads joy and happiness on the BSN. So I spread joy and hapiness and shield restoration in game with Chris Priestly the volus Adept.

I love them! They're adorable and actually pretty good. The light melee cloak is a really cool addition.  But instead of melee damage bonus in fitness there should be an option to have the cloak last longer.

Or something besides Melee damage.. There really is absolutely no reason to go for Melee on a Volus >.<

They were implemented well, and it doesn't break the feel of the game.
I was skeptical that it couldn't be done without making it feel like a Korean MMO with cute furries, or the Ewoks of Mass Effect.
And I love the rolling! Great work guys. =)

Love the Volus we have, but disappointed that the Sentinel is once again a Bioticless Sentinel. Only disappointing part.

Love it! I like the idea of new and different races, and it show that biotics are the property of certain races to the exclusion of all others. With the huge shake up of the Harvest War, who know what the volus will be like after in the aftermath! Enter.... The Galactic Volus Warmachine!

However... While I've always like the idea that they were a "client" race of the Turians, it always seemed strange that a race technical enough to create those suits and wealthy enough to own starships wouldn't create something a little more useful. There are Atlas mechs clanking around, why not retrofit one of those and use use that for combat? 'Specially one of those new fangled fast Atlases. ;-)

They are awesome! I don't think I'll ever try to play them seriously on higher difficulties, but so far, it's been a blast taking them into bronze/silver. I had so much fun! :D

Thanks for them!

There's a lot of sand in dark and dank places in these forums as far as the Volus are concerned, but I'm not letting that spoil my fun :D

Had one on the team. He really got the hang of supporting people with shield reloads. I thought they're awesome. Then I unlocked one and played a round. I still think they're awesome, but now I also think they're hilarious ;-)

"Great, now I have to aim up at everything"
"Why won't he go into cover? Oh..."
Also combat roll is funny as hell with a volus.

Lastly, the "melee" variants are pretty creative.

Not really that pleased with the addition of them.

They've been designed well enough by a fantastic team, but Volus should not be in combat situations like they are exposed to in MP. It doesn't fit with everything we know about them up to this point.

For that reason alone, I am not happy. Screw with the lore too much and you'll lose me as a customer (just be default - I'm not going to erupt into stupidity and attack anyone), because I only play ME3 MP because it's a part of Mass Effect. It's not Mass Effect characters in a MP situation; or atleast, it wasn't until Retaliation.

Good job, as always, but I don't like them.

I love it. It's great to see how unique they are, and also just to play as them.

The Volus seemed to be the "running gag" on the forums, that it would be both awesome/hilarious to play as them.

The fact that it came true, AND that there is going to be a Vanguard just makes it so great!

I had always liked the idea of a Volus character, but never thought it would happen, so I was giddy with joy when I unlocked the Volus engineer last night. I played him through 10 extractions and had a great time. Great job BW!

Something that I really wish I could do with the character, is to keep rolling, and not have the rolls stop. Then I thought, how awesome would it be if I could build momentum and slam into enemies! Maybe not appropriate for an Engineer, but I think that would work well for a Volus Vanguard.

I think it's a great addition. Every species has warriors...even the Elcor and the Hanar so I don't think it's that much of a stretch for the Volus. We already know from the Quarians that needing a suit does not keep peeps out of the fighting.

Great job! Unique characters!
