I also have less trouble rationalising the engineer than the adept (I keep seeing Niftu Cal in my head)
Having said that they seem well done and I'm sure I'll have some fun with them despite being a bit uncomfortable with their inclusion.
I am hoping that's the last of the "joke" character additions though.

I much prefer the Engineer though. In fact, I love him. It is the first class that makes me completely ignore the scoreboard. While being a huge asset to the team due to the massive debuffs it provides, it's still capable of dealing quite some damage, especially to crowds and bosses.
I wish we will get another class with Recon Mine, though. A class that is not a rolling toaster that seems (a little bit) like a joke (don't get me wrong here, they are good classes now that I figured them out). The mine has to be one of my favourite powers now.

Makes me feel like the special olympics are on the battlefield. I think they're cute little munchkins butttt.. way to weak for higher difficulties.
Just played gold against collectors on london with my kroguard ,it was really hard ,the only reason we got the credits was incredible support play from a volus engineer and a volus adept top scoring. The adept pretty much solo'd most of wave 9 after it all went very wrong, they're defo not too weak and I'll defo be playing my engineer and hoping to get the adept next time I'm on.....

It's stupid. Ignoring races that actually engage in combat (Salarians, for example) to shoehorn this joke of a character into the multiplayer game. It really is silly.
The butthurt is strong in this one.

Could character cards be made available for direct purchase? Either credits earned through MP or for 80 microsoft points.

Okay, maybe not, but equip the Volus Shield-Bringer with a medigel transmitter, and you're pretty close.

The armour is perhaps very expensive, complicated, and rare - which is why they're ultra-rare characters. It doesn't offer enough advantage to other races for it to be worth the expense for them. The volus will have some military forces even if they're not that numerous (we know they've got one dreadnaught). The idea that there will be a few of them who'll strap on some expensive armour and grab a gun when things get really bad and desperate is entirely reasonable.CmnDwnWrkn wrote...

I really don't understand this issue. They're under as much threat as everyone else and if they've got some useful skills to add (and the ones they have don't seem too at odds with the volus, unless Biotic God aside there's some codex entry I've forgotten saying they don't have any biotics) then of course they'll fight, even if it's not their preferred method of sorting out conflicts. They seem to die easily, which is consistent with the lore about them.Rifneno wrote...
I think that the MP team should have to run their ideas past the SP team. Between this and the typhoon firing modern day bullets for some reason, I have to wonder if the MP team knows much of anything about Mass Effect's lore.
The Volus don't have any inherent combat abilties. They've been retconned into multiplayer, and their sudden gain of advanced biotic powers, tech powers, tactical cloak, and agility has been explained as resulting from this advanced suit of armor they apparently now have. The problem is, if this technology exists, it exists for anyone to use. If the Volus wanted to help the war effort, they would buy this advanced armor for races that actually engage in combat. The idea that they would strap on some armor themselves, grab a gun, and head out into the thick of battle is ludacrious and violates everything we've been told about them.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to unlocking one and equipping him with the biggest gun I've got just because I want to see how ridiculous it looks

Curious question .... what weapon were the Volus' packing if you remember?
Many thanks Turian Rebel Out.

That Dreadnaught was a gift to the Turians. Its not actually a Volus craft. They just paid for it. And I still maintain that in my personal opinion no amount of mechanical aid would make the Volus combat capable unless they are in a mech like the Atlas. Their physical forms just arent up to the stress.
They have no business in special operations personally. Even when desperate you put your troops where they would do the most good and the Volus would be nothing more than a waste of space on the front lines.

It also bothers me that they get all of these new powers but the rest of the new characters (except for the Turians) are getting recycled ones that we've already seen.
My volus will remain un-deployed.

And if the only Volus addition had been the engineer, I probably could have shrugged it off. He has a very Volus move set, so I could have just tried to forget the whole "explodes when shot" thing.
But no, we're getting four Volus. That means we now have more Volus than Drell, Geth, Vorcha, and Salarians, and an amount equal to those of Krogan and Batarians.
The Volus Vanguard is the worst offender. We're getting a "Support" class with Biotic Charge. This isn't just betraying the lore, this is beating the crap out of it, then screaming at it "Tell them you fell down the stairs!"
Why could we not have gotten Salarians? It's not like the options were Volus or nothing at all. Such a disappointment.
