Running a CSMGII right now on a Destroyer. Yeah, it's fully decked out and kicks some butt, but the real sticker has been the constant fire explosions. Seems to apply ammo very well.

It's almost a perfect caster weapon thanks to the unlimited ammo.
And i only had it at 1, can't wait to get a few levels for it(assuming leveling up adds a little more ammo).

It sucks. Mine is level 7 and it's pretty garbage even on a destroyer with smg amp 3 and ap 4.

The DPS is half of what the hurricane has, and the mag size is a joke. Buff this pos please.

k I gave it another try at lvl X, it's almost as good as hurricane without any amps, because it's more accurate. Only suggestion would be increase a bit ammo count.

Any rapid fire weapon applies ammo really well.  I don't see why being an ammo applicator qualifies for UR status when you have rares that do that and more.  In fact, the CAR and CSR both have better dps than the CSMG and high ROF and are both rares.  Not having to go to an ammo box is not that big of a deal to make it a UR.

For such low DPS, I would suggest increasing the ammo a lot or make it a rare.

You should add this CSMG Video from Feneckus to the OP and people should watch it before passing judgement on the weapon ...

The weapon always recharges ammunition when enemies do roll animations (must be a custom Feneckus mod :P)

Outscoring the average PUG on Firebase Glacier of all maps, with an Infiltrator of all classes does not prove the CSMG is a good weapon. I could go do the same thing right now using a GI and the Geth Pulse Rifle, and make arrogant claims about how the gun is fine and everyone else is "doing it wrong" but I wouldn't be right.

Maybe the Volus Engineer is more to your liking.

Now try it with a Hurricane.

This. Besides, If I am not mistaken the VE has Prox Mine, which will compensate a lot for a weak weapon. Try it on a class with no special boosts.

Is this the same Death for Sale?
I suspect you hired a doppelganger.

As usual, the culprit is the varying armor DR between difficulty settings - and how it disproportionately affects fast firing low damage weapons.

The gun is powerful on bronze, and trash on gold.

Fixing it on gold would make it OP on bronze.

Impossible to balance, so long as armor DR changes between difficulties.

Armor DR needs to be made the same across all difficulties, and enemy HP needs to be scaled to maintain tougher enemies on higher difficulties.

Then you can finally balance all guns to be of proper power relative to each other - and they will always be that powerful relative to each other, regardless of difficulty setting.

SKILL is overpowered on Bronze.  Run around with a double-nova Novaguard and wipe the floor with ANYTHING on Bronze, it is OP over there while never seen on Gold.

Well, I tried on a silver match and thought it was awesome - everything was dead so fast it was crazy. It IS less powerful; than the hurricane, but its accuracy means you can shoot enemies at the other end of the map in the head, which for me certainly made up for it being a little weaker than the hurricane. On a destroyer, with the accuracy, fire rate and damage bonuses it drops so fast that I couldn't care less if it is a fraction slower than other guns - the Hurricane is one of the very very best guns in the game, I would say the CSMG is certainly quite good.

I respect Stardust's opinion of the weapon, and I know that any gun is awesome on a destroyer, but I still say that it is a great lightweight weapon, just dont hold down the trigger for too long. It has a bonus against armour too doesn't it, but no piercing that I know of, so it really makes a good boss killer with some nice ammo on it and a few mods.

I wouldn't say no to a buff, but it is a good, useable alternative weapon. It may not be optimal, but it works.

I have been campaingning for ages for a simple increase in minimum bullet damage versus armour - instead of the minimum being 5 damage per bullet, it should be made to at least 10. This way, it doesnt make powerful weapons better, it just makes the weak weapons not as awful. In fact, it actually really helps those with high fire rates by a large amount. I did make a thread where I went though all the numbers of the assault rifles at the time, and worked out the new DPS against armour, and it really balanced all the weaker ones nicely - with one odd effect, the GPR was suddenly very good VS armour(not overpowered) because it had such a huge fire rate. I suspect that it would only take a little change to make high ROF guns lke the Collector SMG suddenly very good indeed, which is why I havent recommended much higher than 10.  Wish I could find which thread I wrote it all down in (though it would be out-dated now)

It is a little tweak, which only makes bad weapons better across the board, without rocking the boat - please consider this Bioware!

They need to increase the clip capacity for lv 1 to at least 30, cause right now it plain suck at lv 1 and not everyone get lucky with the garbage rng system in Mass Effect 3.

Stop moaning.

Stop moaning about people moaning.

When things are terrible, people moan. There will always be exceptions--showoffs and people who like Bronze or are just fond of the underdog or of a pet weapon--but the majority will moan. And you know what? Having extracted from multiple Gold matches only to get the same character cards they've already fully unlocked or getting borderline troll weapons like the CSMG, or multiple level IV consumables instead of anything good? They have a justification to moan because it hurts.

If it bothers you so much, roll your eyes and don't click the thread. It's that simple.

A Wild Snorlax wrote...

It's pretty shocking.

All the collector weapons need buffs but this one is easily the worst, by far. It's horrible. The damage is bad and the mag size is a joke. Dunno what they were thinking when they made it an ultra rare.

I prefer the Locust over it, for the headshot bonus, or the Hornet for the damage and incredibly fast reload time (on both those guns.)

Though now that I think about it, I'm not sure why the hell the Locust is not a UR, considering how you find it and how good it is in ME2. Kinda sad it's not better than it is, lore-wise.

The armor bonus on the CSMG was a nice idea, but it's small, and the tiny clip size which forces you to hesitate instead of using the last bullets means that even with two mag size upgrades, the clip is too small to be worth mentioning.

Someone complained about the Hurricane--they fixed that gun. Put a Heat Sink on that baby and you're good to go. HVB or Stability mod added in, and you'll feel damned lucky to have it now. Even if its clip size seems small without mods, it does good damage. At least, now that it doesn't have enough recoil to knock you on the floor. Its existence as a UR is fully justified now and it can stand next to the Crusader and Valiant as being worthy of the category.

Not so for the CSMG or the Eagle.

BrotherWarth wrote...

Why are we acting like the Volus Engineer is bad? It has 2 amazing abilities, 1 really good ability and can bring down bosses in no time. Seriously, it's awesome.

I would bet you my CSMG that he used his mines far more than his guns to get his score. Those mines are awesome.

Feneckus wrote...

I've only tried it on a Turian Soldier, it was awesome. You've gotta get used to it though.

It's not as good as the Locust/Eagle against mooks, but it's a lot more effective against armor/bosses.

Know what else is awesome on a Turian Soldier? A potato. A lead pipe. A water gun.

People should really stop using that old Turian Soldier argument to justify a weapon's existence. Especially a UR.

Dracian wrote...

I completely agree. This weapon is a joke. The only other UR with that level of jokeness/trollness is the Eagle.

Don't I know it. *sigh* But even the Eagle, I like better for general purposes. On a Slayer or somebody, if I'm too low level for the good guns or I want to use the melee stunner. It's okay. (Though really, a promo weapon should be better than okay.)

Seifer006 wrote...

I spent 2.9 Million creds......and got a lot of character cards........but no UR except a level up on the scorpion that I never use

Damn. I wish I could trade you my CSMG II for even a single Scorpion upgrade. I love the Scorpion for its AoE and stagger.

megabeast37215 wrote...

Everyone I know that says it sucks... doesn't have it at X. Everyone I know who has it at X says is decent to great.

The Particle Rifle is the same way... totally sucks at low level... when it gets to VII+... it starts rocking.

I think it's a pretty good gun, easily the 2nd best SMG... but the Hurricane is still better at killing. Collector SMG doesn't need all the stability help the Hurricane does though... and I feel it's better at applying ammo powers.

Well, you've got me there. At II, it's just sad. Maybe I'd feel differently if I had a X.

I guess I would say that, at the very least, a UR should be much better at II than the CSMG is. And the way this game keeps giving me level IV consumables and Volus appearance upgrades, getting any UR to X is not happening in the next century.

Agreed. The collector SMG is a huge steaming pile of sh*t.

Hmm, maybe that's unfair, a rancid pile of sh*t would probably overwhelm (organic) enemies quicker :P

CSMG is a much better weapon than people give it credit for being.

It's weak on platinum, granted, but weapons aren't balanced around platinum. On gold at level X it is pretty monstrous on a caster. It is NOT for using on weapons classes.

The CSMG at I looks pretty bad at first, but the strength of the weapon is the fact that it is practcally pin point acccurate; so you can score LOTS of headshots with it.

If you're on xbox, you might want to learn not to let the auto-aim do the work for you and purposefully adjust your zoomed aim so you're getting headshots on EVERY enemy; even bosses.

It also deals a lot of damage to armour, perhaps more so than the hurricane.

Power users only, don't use it on a weapons class or the results will be predictable underwhelming compared to its alternatives.

The weapon scales very well with each level, so the higher the weapon is it becomes exponentially more powerful, to a far greater extent than other weapons do.

Aim for the head all the time and it'll deal lots of damage. Allow auto-aim or lazy mouse aim to do your work and you will feel underwhelmed.

It doesn't suck but being highly dependent on upgrades for performance means it's UP from levels I to V. Being a UR doesn't help its case too.
