A character that I'm trying to master right now is the Vorcha sentinel.  I've specced mine for flaming and durability at the expense of grenades.

For the most part, this build tends to dominate collectors.  Everything up to and including the scion I can pretty much scorch to death, maybe finishing up with a shotgun shot or two.  My problem, however, are the praetorians.  I just can't really figure out an effective strategy against them given their biotic sphere and the danger they pose in close quarters.

Has anyone figured out an effective strategy against them with a flamethrower vorcha?  Or should I swap out the next time I see the collectors.

On a side note, the frost explosion quarian engineer dominates vs. the collectors (at least in silver).

Haven't played against the Collectors with a Vorcha yet but to me it seems like it should be quite effective against Praetorians. It's armor, and flamer is excellent against that and provides damage over time as well. Have you specced for distance? If it's focusing on you just run away and kill other stuff. If it's not focusing on you run in and torch it.

The primary issue with any class fighting the Praetorian is how quickly it can deal damage to you. The Vorcha should have no trouble dealing damage, but the problem with the flamer is that you need to stay out of cover and focused on the Praetorian long enough for it to absolutely murder you with death lasers.

Your best bet is to just plug away at the thing with your weapon, duck whenever it shoots at you, and only use the flamer when it's focused on somebody else and you can roast the S.O.B. for as long as you need to. I suppose you could try using the flamer in short bursts, but I'd stress once again: If the Praetorian starts shooting at you just get out of the way. There's nothing else you can do.

fighting a praetorian is akin to fighting a gigantic banshee...

Yeah..those cluster grenades would help against barriers. I use the soldier so I can set off Fresplosions, and does pretty well.

Vorcha are so great.
Equip a Geth shotgun and start charging. While you Flame somebody release the trigger. Presto. Gargantual damage. this applies to praetorians.
You can flank them while they shoot on someone else.
Also you can Flame them in doses.

I hate praetorians. But here's a tip for vorcha sentinel: don't skip grenades. You can blanket a bunch of enemies with flamer, turn it off immediately (no point keeping it on, the effect lasts 5 secs), and use the nades to do heavy damage and set off multiple fire explosions.

I play with a flammer based vorcha and it performs well against praetorian so long as you understand the praetorian's abilities

If the prae is floating but not shooting start with weapon fire aimed at its weakspot (plates in the mouth area where the husk heads are) make sure to use some sort of penetration mod to shoot through the plates. If you attempt to flame it in this phase it will bubble up and become immune to your flammer for a short time. If the bubble is triggered keep shooting it

If it goes into laser fire mode start flaming it but keep strafing as the lasers can fire in any direction
if it kneels down it means its about to pounce. if its not facing you feel free to flame it before and after the pounce. if its facing you get ready to dodge the attack, time your doge then flame it after.

Hope this helps. :)

Oh, also an adrenaline consumable will greatly help you to strafe and backpedal safely when fighting dangerous enemies at close range such as banshees or praetorians
