So far in my five games (none yet completed :/ I curse you character creator! Right after I make this next Warden) after Lothering I hit Warden's Keep then snag Shale and blow the Circle out of the way for the Fade bonuses and Wynn. After that it gets iffy. Redcliff for two, Orzammar for another and Brecelian for my mage. (still need to get AW opened)

I lately do Redcliffe lateron, when my char is higher level. I guess I'm sort of a good guy and don't want to see those defenders die and at low level, they're weak. I've done the fight at low levels several times and saved all of them but still, that's a lot of clicking. At higher levels though these defenders become better since they also level up, gain some stats and skills and actually can put up a fight instead of being like cattle in slaughterhouse.

If you have Stone Prisoner then getting Shale earlier is good as he's a nice addition, plus he'll be a nice addition in Orzammar's quest line too. Warden's Keep - if you want some of the gear to be high tier then wait, if not then do it soon too, some useful items there. Magi Tower is also good to do as you get a good companion, plus some additional stat boosts from there. And so on.

I personally reccomend Orzammar first. Oghren is just that awesome. Failing that, Mage Tower is probably your best bet. Wynne for healing, but also you get some nice stuff there which will really help you when you're first starting out.

...but beware of those pesky bounty hunters. I hate those guys above anything else in the game.

I'm like a lot of the posters above, I like to get my companions early.

This current run through I did the DLC immediately after Lothering for Shale and the party chest, grabbed all the side quests I could, bought the Archivists sash and then went to the Circle for Wynne and Fade bonuses. Now I'm ping-ponging Orzammar and Haven. Once I've finished the Urn quest and snagged Oghren, I'll do Redcliffe village, finish Paragon completely and then do all of Redcliffe castle. I'm saving Nature of the Beast for last this go around.

I'm trying to cross Ferelden as much as possible as there are still some things I haven't seen yet (axe in the stump, for example).
