He can't fight worth S**T, out of every one of my char he has died the most . His crying is pathetic and for a man no less ,  i mean he didn't  even know Duncan long enough to be crying so much. Because Allister was the last one to join before you.  So he was already  a( i use this lightly) man.

He straight up lies to your face about the arl not being his dad . then gives you a waa, people are mean to me
when i tell them ,as a  weak excuse . A smart ass  that  wont give you a straight answer
if his virginity depended on it .

And then even though he never did it  he says no to you .   He wants nothing
to do with responsibilities what so ever .   i don't know  why you like this guy so
much, now don't get mad at me I'm just asking OK .can you explain please?Image IPB

He's quite charming in the beginning. Other than that... what Recidiva said. But be patient, maybe the fans will come and explain what we don't see in him.

I liked Alistair in a strictly hetero "buddies" kind of way. For a paladin type he isn't very self-important and he's got a cool sense of humour. Though I agree that he can get whiny at times, he's certainly no worse than many of my real world friends in that regard ;-)

Strange that you find him the weakest fighter of your group.  In my group he's kick-a**.  Sten is the one who I have to watch about falling in battle.  Maybe it is the way you've leveled him up or something.  Once you give him assault, shield wall, and some decent armor, he can usually carry a battle single-handed in my group (and has sometimes - one hit and my mage is dead).

Plus as stated above, his voice makes us girls swoon. Image IPB Especially those of us on this side of the pond.

And he's not whiney.  He's.........sensitive (that's what I keep telling my husband anyway when he laughs at me for liking Alistair). Image IPB

Good VA. And though he does get on my nerves a smidge, at least he's not a macho douchenozzle. Sorta novel.

I'm not female, but I would like to butt in here.

If he can't fight very well and dies a lot... then that's your fault. You got him in your "party" early on and have plenty of time to build his character's stats to make him.

Alistair never told me he was the Arl's son (which he isn't, so it's not a lie) in any of the times I've played the game.

"Ladies" is the plural form of "lady". "Lady's" is the possessive form as in, "The lady's purse was open for all to see." and "There were several ladies at the dance, but everyone of them had two left feet."

It is too early or you aren't developing him properly. While he'll never be a great DPS guy, he is irreplacible as my tank. NO one can withstand punishment on my team like Ali can. Give him some massive armor and turn on Shield Wall and Shield Tactics and he is the man. When he goes down, it's because he's surrounded by guys pounding on him (meaning he's doing his job).

He seems far too whiny to be the tank of the group.

"Aww Wynne that hurlock nasty bitmyfingerloooook"

"Aww Sten fix my armor that dragon cheweditinhalflooook".

I like to use the respec mod to turn Sten or Oghren into tanks, and let Alistair do some damage instead ^^

It's the accent lol

Anyway I like Alistair for the fact that he's a smartass. I tend to find his comments amusing compared to those that are so stiff like Sten. Don't get me wrong Sten is cool in his own way. I guess you could say Alistair is sort of a mix between Han Solo and Luke Skywalker if you want to look at it that way. Also if you've read the novels that are prequels to the game Maric is very much the same way so in truth he is really his father's son.

Alistair doesn't really lie to you about his heritage. He comes out and says he's a bastard and that he knows who his father is. He chooses not to disclose it for the fact of how he is treated by others. He was treated poorly in the chantry by others because they assumed he was Eamon's bastard child and Duncan even babied him because he knew of his heritage. Alistair feared the PC would treat him the same way and didn't want that because he doesn't wish to change the relationship between you and he regardless if you are male or female. To me he's a guy's best buddy. The one you have as the joker despite his whining.

As for him not knowing Duncan that well...I don't think that would be entirely accurate. I sort of look at the relationship as the Obi-Wan and Luke relationship. There is time that passed with them together. Alistair has met other wardens and traveled with Duncan which takes time. I would guess that Alistair has been a Warden for probably a year or a little over that. Remember it takes like 2 weeks to travel from the Circle of Magi's tower to Orzammar and on the map it doesn't even look that far. I would think they would have been close enough to establish that father/son type of relationship. Duncan was afterall Maric's friend much like Loghain was.

I think somewhere in the game Alistair says (or maybe it was Duncan who said it) that he has been a Gray Warden for six months.  Although I get the feeling Alistair has known Duncan for longer than that considering how close they were.

Yea I think he does know him well. It was probably some sort of deal Maric and Duncan made to watch over him despite his being in the care of Eamon then the Chantry.

I´m male, so i don´t really count, but I like Alistair. He is cracking jokes all the time just like I would (and actually do while in school). He is a good fighter (if he dies the most you just play him wrong), and I dont see why you should blame someone for being a virgin...

Last, but not least, he says that the arl is not his father, and this is not (as you stated) a lie but the truth. King Maric is his father.

I think he desperately wanted a father figure. And then someone in that awesome beard walks in...

I find him a very good tank if he has the best gear possible like the dreadnought armour or whatever it's called.

Anyway as a male, and I always play male characters.. he is a good, loyal team mate whoh only reacts badly to some of your choices.

Yes, I cannot grow a decent beard. Damn my genes.

And nothing says father figure as much as a full beard.

I don't blame Alistair for wanting a father figure. He never had one really. Eamon pretty much ditched him for Isolde because she thought Alistair was Eamon's bastard. Off to the Chantry Alistair goes where he only found some solace in the education and training. Even the people in the Chantry treated him like crap so he was left without a father or mother figure.

As for him dying all the time I don't have that issue either. I always keep him sword and board and make sure he has plenty of strength, health and stamina. Dex doesn't hurt either. Plus I make sure his tactic is set on defender. He tends to do well with that. It's all in how you trait him out and gear him.

1) "So your only friends in life and the man you look up to were killed? Well suck it up princess, we got a war on!" Honestly I don't get the cultural disdain for male emotion. Alistair never even cries in front of the PC, he just trails off in conversation sometimes and makes a sad face. What, every dude has to be stoic when life kicks them in the balls?

2) This sentence doesn't make sense, I assume you mean he lies about the king being his father? Well, I don't like being known among my family's social circles as X's daughter or Y's sister, which is why I have my own friends, and there's not even any title or political import to these relationships. I just like being known for myself, not for my family members. Yeah, it was dumb to hide his parentage given that as far as either of you know it's entirely possible that Loghain might want to eliminate Maric's other son, but Alistair is not exactly world-wise or politically savvy.

3. Sexuality varies by individual. Surprise! A guy doesn't have to try to score with anything that will consent in order to be "a real man." Alistair is a dorky romantic, coupled with the fact that he spent his teen years preparing to join a monastic order, I could see him being shy about sex. Think about what most boys do in their late teens (if they're lucky): kissing and having awkward sex with girls their own age. Alistair never went through that experimental stage, he has no clue what he's doing in that arena, and is probably terrified of being inadequate. A lot of guys have performance anxiety and Alistair is already insecure.

4) He doesn't shirk his responsibilities, though? He's perfectly happy leading the warden recruits around the swamps, and he won't let you quit if you start sounding defeated after Ostagar. It's been said of him elsewhere, and I agree, that he's more suited to be a sergeant than a general. That's okay, honestly, not everyone is cut out to be a leader and I don't consider that a character flaw.

Really, it's a subjective perception of a character. I'm not sure how you think anyone's going to convince you that Alistair is an okay guy. Sometimes you don't like a person and you can either get worked up over how much you hate him or you can just walk away and save yourself the aggravation.
