The one line that sealed the deal with me is when asked about anything else he's hiding and he's reply is "other then a mild obsession with my hair, and a love of fine cheeses, no" Which totally reminded me of my husband (which he denies constantly) so I was hooked. Plus that accent; tall, blond, and handsome.....yummy! ;-p

British accents are sexy now?

I sure am glad I live in the UK.

It's not the accent so much as the voice.  Somewhere on these forums somebody described Steve Valentine's voice as "audible chocolate."

Anyway, the accent adds its own sexy factor, but only when taken in combination with the whole package. In other words, having the accent adds, but not having it doesn't detract. :P

You're right.  Steve Valentine has a lot to do with it.  A voice actor can make all the difference in charm for a character whether he's written well or not.

Alistair's not funny??? Um you have played the game right n more than once... Not sure how to respond but Alistair is one of the funniest characters in the game, I see him as being more funny than Morrigan... Between all the chaos n bs you've got to deal with Alistair does try n lighten up the mood with his corny 1 liners which I enjoy... Really try putting yourself in the game

Creating characters that players can consider in more than a 2d way is quite an accomplishment.

Setting the player up as being the default leader for simply stepping up when asked for help is brilliant. You're playing this game, taking things as they come, then all of a sudden you realize that you've got a batch of people covering your back while depending on you at the same time. And it all happened while you were trying to just not die. That these people are interesting, difficult, and have their own problems adds layers to how you react to the play.

I am surprisingly tied to this game, even though I resent the strict pathing. Not the quest options but that I can't even look behind some buildings. Could be a cake back there. Cooling. You never know, right?

Both of the times I have played through so far, I have chosen to romance Alistair. The main reason is that he's more integral to the main story line. I have played through the ending several times with a city elf and made a human noble so she could be queen.

Out of the bunch, I find Alistair most physically attractive. I like my men to look like men. I like em tall with some build. I don't want a guy who looks like I could beat him up. It also helps that he looks alarmingly like my husband irl.

I like Alistair's humor and I like that he uses it to help him through the difficult things the party is facing. I especially enjoy listening to him banter with Shale. The part about "the ritualistic killing" of birds is hilarious and reminds me so much of the guys I work with.

There are times that I think he is too whiney and wish he would man up a little more, but at the same time, if he acted like the king he may or may not become, there would be no way our characters could lead the party. Alistair would have too much of a dominant personality to allow it. I love watching the romance as much as the next girl, but its the nerd in me that loves this game the most and I probably wouldn't love it as much if I didn't get to be the heroine.

As far as the romance goes, it totally melts my heart watching him confess his love for the character. You know he's completely freaking out in his head. Its so cute.

I also do have to agree with the other ladies.... I could probably sit happily and listen to Alistair read the dictionary.

He has a cute face, as does Alistair.  But I've never seen Valentine in really small underwear.  :innocent:

I found Alistair immediately endearing. He's sweet, innocent, kind, and genuinely trying to be the best he can be. He is also a disciplined warrior. In his defense about the whole king thing, he has grown up for his entire life being told that he shouldn't want to be the king. His sister is told that he's dead, he's raised by the arl, who does nothing to dispel the rumors that Alistair is his son, and then shuttled off to the Chantry, where he will take vows of chastity and therefore never have children who could possibly have a claim to the throne. When Cailan dies, suddenly he is thrown into a situation where he realizes that he might be expected to step up, but no one has ever taught him how. Cailan was groomed to be the king, but Alistair has spent his whole life being told he will never be the king.

Those rock-hard tan abs don't hurt either. Mmmmm. ;)

I think Alistair and Morrigan are funniest when they're together.  Loved the dialogue about her nose.

Morrigan and Alistair have so much fun snipping at each other, it's hard to believe they don't actually like each other, underneath it all. If those two characters were in a Hollywood movie, they'd surely wind up together rather than with the PC. They're kind of like Beatrice and Benedict in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

He had my PC swooning with "So I fooled you, did I? Good to know."

And he's a great tank -- he takes all the damage freeing up my PC and her companions for some nice offense.

What's not to love? He's sweet, he's hysterical and masculine. That, with his incredible voice (listen to the sound file on the aforementioned quote) and his nice-looking avatar make him a wonderful romantic NPC.

The game is ALL ABOUT Alistair, in more ways than one, plot wise, but on a personal level for me, too. My first playthrough, I was spell bound by him. There is nothing, and I mean NOTHING like a man who is completely honest about his feelings. I don't like "weak" men who are clingy and need me to constantly be their spine, but Alistair never struck me that way. Yeah, he's got a softer side that he's not afraid to let show, but he never backs down from defending the helpless and less fortunate. And then, there's the VOICE, the way he speaks to you on occasion like you're the only thing that exists in the entire world. It really is swoon worthy. He does have his own opinions, as you well know if you ever solved Redcliffe by doing anything besides enlisting the help of the mages. He never backs down from doing his job or being a hero, or even being king, even if he complains. Who doesn't complain sometimes about their job or their lot in life? My character certainly would have, given the chance. "Why can't Ferelden wipe its collective @ss without my help?" would have been at the top of my list. All I need is the support of these people to stop the Blight, but no, I gotta go get the Urn of Sacred Ashes and choose the fracking Dwarven KING first. I probably would've whined about losing my parents in my first playthrough as well, given half the chance. We'd have been side by side at the campfire sharing Kleenex and our feelings (I know this may be alien for some men, but I have to tell you; some women really enjoy that) propping each other up and patting each other on our armored shoulders.

But... my point is, he is never, ever hiding anything from the PC about how he feels for her. He is up front and honest about that, and there is almost nothing more endearing than a man who will make himself vulnerable for you. Even if you make him king (after he tells you through the whole game not to) and he dumps you after Landsmeet, he never lies about how he feels. And he STILL won't let you sacrifice yourself in the end--he leaves you with no choice. Not just out of a sense of duty, but because he loves you, no matter what, and he refuses to watch someone else he loves die when he can FINALLY, for ONCE, do something about it. I... really can't think of anything more romantic.

Vulnerable, endearing, FUNNY, sweet, HONEST, a hero through and through, and someone who would literally die for you. Coupled with his looks and that voice? I fall for him every. single. time.

(Pardon the snippage but I just wanted to highlight what stood out the most for me.)

These are just exactly the things that got me about Alistair ... that really made me like him from that first snide comment on. (well, in addition to the really cute looks, and that voice)

But .... running throught the back of my mind is always:

"God save us from people who do the right thing, it's the rest of us who have live with their decision."
   -Americanization of Emily

Boyscouts are a pain in the long-run and I have that niggling doubt about him from the beginning. Side-by-side with the good stuff, but there, niggling, poking at me, warning me that he's gonna be a disappointment in the end.

*heh* Yes, I'm flip-flopping regarding Alistair.

Vulnerable:  Yes.

Endearing: No.  Him being endearing would not cause me to leave him in camp all the time nor would it be so easy for me to let Loghain live.

Funny:  Not really.  Not in my opinion at least but every one has a different sense of humor.

Honest: Absolutely not.  He lies to the PC pretty much from the beginning and only tells the truth when you find it out for yourself and corner him on it.

Hero:  Heroes do not ditch out on their party when things do not go their way, nor do they throw a fit when it happens.  Oghren is much more of a hero than Alistair is.
