With the build I gave Alistair, he made a competent hardy fighter. As he's a fictional entity, I can't say that I "love" him, but he has some great traits. i.e. he's open-minded, has a relaxed sense-of-humour, sensible and expresses his feelings and thoughts instead of being petulantly defensive (like Morrigan).

His constant lamenting of Duncan did get a bit irritating, but as Loghain condemned hundreds of people to death and had got away with it, persecuting others brutally and fabricating harmful nonsense in the meantime, it's unsurprising as to why Alistair felt overwhelmed and teary. On another note, it's funny how in real life, some men blast others who cry for a perfectly normal reason, yet their stoic manly façade crumbles when they get dumped... or their favourite sportsman fouls up. The mind boggles.

Anyway, Leliana's the one for me; who could resist an exquisite lady-thief who appreciates the finer things in life, has been brutally betrayed by someone close, yet still managed to retain a balanced perspective? Her personality rocks. Image IPB

Because they know that it will drive men wild with curiosity, and deep down all women are secretly trolls.

Plus as stated above, his voice makes us girls swoon. Image IPB Especially those of us on this side of the pond.

What side of the pond?

The side of the pond where we girls don't get to hear that sexy accent all the time

Hell I'm in the wrong country then.

What I am about to say has probably been written a number of times.  I want to get back to playing the game rather than read all the posts. ;p

The way I built Alistair, he's not weak at all.  He's my main tank; I take him everywhere I go.  Now I know Shale could probably do better but by the time I'd picked her up, I was already in love with this npc. ;p  I think his goofy inability to share his feelings without making a joke of it is quite charming.  He's not a leader, many of us are not and if he were, we wouldn't be playing the main character of the story. ;p  He does have courage though, despite his sniveling here and there.  And well, the voice actor is great.  What a sexy accent.  /swoon <3

Yeah you are. Have you seen Love Actually? The subplot with the nerdy guy who can't get a girl, and decides to go to America and trade on his accent is Truth in Television. Just be prepared to handle a ton of stupid questions ("Are you British?") like this poor guy.

Alistair's never been a weak character the way I build him. In fact on harder difficulty settings and with my favorite class being a rogue, I've relied on him quite a bit in early games to keep us all alive if we have any chance at all. He's usually the last one to fall and I'm always grateful when I get to pop up off the ground...not...you know, permanently dead.

And with his dialogue options and willingness to kiss on demand, what's not to love?

I should just stop playing before Landsmeet, is all.

Poor old Hugh Laurie getting that line over and over. I first saw him in the Blackadder series, many years before House started. He can put on a much more believable American accent than say, Jason Statham.

I have to agree with what the gals are saying about the accent. Not because I'm attracted to that thing. Let's just get that straight right away. But becaase I, myself have had an experience similar to that. Albeit a less glamourous one.
My accent is a mix of english and scottish. I was on holiday in Canadawith the family. I ordered some Tim Hornton donuts in the shop, and I kid you not, I was swarmed. Now being a 17 year old guy, I was pretty damn chuffed. I am planning on moving across the pond in the future at some point.
Just thought I'd share that wee story with you all. :police:

Hmm, I guess it's because I see Big Al as a buddy instead of a love interest. Even my female pc's see him that way. Also, I'm a smart arse and apparently only Alistair can be jokey and smart arsy. At least Shale appreciates my smart remarks.

First of all, male player here. I thought Alistair was a lot of fun. He had a sarcastic sense of humor that cracked me up sometimes. I actually preferred Shale as my tank. It seemed like no matter how many people Shale had piled on her, the battle would always end before she went down. Alistair seemed to die quicker when he tanked for me while getting piled on by larger groups. I probably built him wrong or something.

Back on topic- I just finished my first play through, and depending on the decisions you made, he can turn around quickly personality wise. The Alistair in my game went from being insecure, shy, not willing to lead to becoming basically Braveheart. He even had a great speech and became a BA leader. I don't want to ruin one of the endings(the one I had anyway), but his last speech in my honor brought a tear to my eye (even though I was playing a video game character, haha).

EDIT:  Ok I realized that this post was in the spoiler section so I can go into more detail.  In Landsmeet if you make him marry Anora, kill Loghain yourself, he is still unsure of himself.  When you go into the final battle at Denerim to fight the arch demon, he gives a great speech to his men.  He also gives a great eulogy to the main character if those are the choices you make(I was a dwarf commoner for my first playthrough).
