His constant lamenting of Duncan did get a bit irritating, but as Loghain condemned hundreds of people to death and had got away with it, persecuting others brutally and fabricating harmful nonsense in the meantime, it's unsurprising as to why Alistair felt overwhelmed and teary. On another note, it's funny how in real life, some men blast others who cry for a perfectly normal reason, yet their stoic manly façade crumbles when they get dumped... or their favourite sportsman fouls up. The mind boggles.
Anyway, Leliana's the one for me; who could resist an exquisite lady-thief who appreciates the finer things in life, has been brutally betrayed by someone close, yet still managed to retain a balanced perspective? Her personality rocks.
