Ooops, sorry. We really do need more guys on Team Alistair though.
I doubt that's going to happen.
Sure, we can tolerate whining and complaining from girls (way more so than from guys). But if that girl is like Alistair, I would have a very hard time resisting the urge to slap her.

So.........does this mean you won't vote for Alistair for Mister Fereldon?

Not in a million years
The problem is, there is no real alternative for a female.
I want to play as a woman, but I really don't know who to romance, as I dislike both Zevran and Alistair. Alot.
I really think it's unfair for girls. They get the worst options.

I don't know. I didn't like Zev at first but even with the fake Spanish accent, he's sort of grown on me. I like Ali better, but Zev has an interesting background and you kind of start to feel sorry for him a little when you learn more about his life. If you can get past some of the raunchy stuff he says to you (Oh, for the love of the maker, that poem, that naughty, naughty poem
Anyway, I kind of feel the opposite way you do. I mean I like Leliana well enough I guess, but I'm playing a male pc right now and Morrigan won't stay away from me. It's like ewww......Morrigan just doesn't do anything for me. Though my husband really seems to be smitten with her, I just really don't get her appeal (other than her lack of clothing

This is weird, as I don't usually imagine myself being a girl lol. But here goes.
If I was a girl, I really don't want to feel sorry for the guy I am interested in. I mean, sure I could feel sorry for things that happened to him. But I certaintly wouldn't want to pity him. If I pity him, then he is pitiful. Which is not what I would look for in a guy.
Now as a person, Zevran is definately more interesting than Alistair. But he is too vulgar and indecent. No class in him. I might see him as a friend and he is very fun. But nothing more than that.
About Morrigan. Well there are many reasons why I think she was the best romance option, imo of course (excluding her lack of clothing, which is still important mind you).
First, her voice. A captivating voice.
Second, her wits. She is smart and sarcastic, just what I love. And she isn't afraid to speak her mind. Skeptical. In many ways, philosophical.
Third, despite the fact that she was raised in a forest, she displays more class than everyone around her. she isn't perfect, but she still has class (not clothing wise, of course).
Fourth, she might be "easy" in terms of the physical aspect of the relationship. But the actual loving part is very interesting. She is the kind that doesn't like expressing her emotions, which is rare for a woman. It actually made me care about her feelings.
Also in general, she has this exotic and dark feeling to her. Which is exquisite. And this is being very brief about it

I will agree with you on her voice acting. I think the voice actor did an excellent job as Morrigan (as did all the voice actors in DA), but I say this maybe not in the same way as you would. She did such a good job at being a bit** to my fem pc and Alistair that I had a really hard time not just flat out hating her. And yeah, with my fem pc we ending up best friends by the end of the game (even after she bedded Ali
Still if she keeps getting all cozy with my male pc I'm going to have to invest in a can of "Witch-Away" or something. Geez, say one nice thing to her and she thinks we're married

I liked her my first play through but she is worse than Al if you ask me, the first time you do something that she doesn't like or disagreed with something she says all you see is Morrigan disapproves -5 to -10. The only reason I even liked her is because she reminded me of a past GF, just like her however it was all about Morrigan and what she wanted, you were never part of her happy picture of reality. I got sick of keeping that B**** happy real quick.
Plus what she does at the end of the game is hardly something I would consider classy, or normal even, her entire purpose of coming with you has been a lie. She left with you on some crazy ass quest concoced with her mother (why does this girl listen to her morther after she finds out shes a goddamn body snatcher? and her body was next!) to make a demon baby with you, she could give a s*** less about fighting the darkspawn and if you decide not to go through with her "save your life" plan which is honestly likely worse then the Arch Demon himself she leaves you before the final battle just like Al.

He's sassy from the first moment you see him, and he doesn't hesitate to challenge suspect views, not even of the Templars who trained him. He knows his mind and his morals better than most people (and perhaps better than all the other characters, Sten excepted).
As a (straight) male playing a male PC, I'm not in the target audience for the OP's question, but some of these thoughts may apply. Yes, Alistair wasn't made to be a leader, but he's an excellent friend.

Alistair is stronger than many characters recognize, even in-game. Anora sums up the view of players who dislike Alistair, that he's weak-willed and indecisive ("his biggest decision has been which shoe to wear"), but she doesn't know him well.

My conclusion is that he must be weak, or a follower as you will, so your character can be the main lead Grey Warden.
Otherwise, Allistair would be.

And in that case the game was over before it even started as we would have probably died at ostagar if we were to follow alistair's lead. So yeah im glad our guy is the leader that way the game is extended for at least 45-50 hours otherwise it would have been shorter than Halo 3 Odst which is shorter than an expansio LOL;)CRGiles wrote...

The voice. The quirky sense of humor. Plus he's adorable to boot. I have to respect how he feels about his duty, too. Sometimes he does let emotion override it, it's true (case in point: Loghain), but even when he dumped my pc after he got the throne, I had to admit that he was doing what was best at the time.
The country needed a ruler, one they could get behind 100%. That's why the PC put him there in the first place, as Maric's son. Putting a non-noble pc on the throne with him would cause a lot of problems. You've seen how the majority look down on elves. Yes, something does need to be done about that, but in that way and at this time, it would do more harm than it would good. There is a time and place for things, and unfortunately now is not that time.
It's not that he doesn't love you enough, it's that he's putting the country before what you and he want. That's what Wynne meant, I think, when she says love is selfish. It looks out for itself. When my PC takes the option to go through with the ritual so that her and Al can live, that is the selfish side of love. If my PC insists that she be put first and who cares about the general political unrest in the country and the chaos it could cause to have her on the throne, in my opinion that's also the selfish side of love. One of the major themes of the game, to me, is "some things are bigger than you" and this situation and this choice personify that a great deal.
Now that I've soap box'd and moralized and bored everyone to tears. Well. He also does remind me of my boyfriend, with the crazy jokes.
It's funny how I go the different way. I don't see how he could love someone and leave them on the basis of their race or social class. Or how he couldn't have seen any of this coming and given a LOT more of a warning. Like...let me know ahead of time we couldn't have kids and that might matter down the road. I also don't see how we couldn't adopt. He was an orphan himself, I find a poetic symmetry in that. I can talk him into...sleeping...with...Morrigan...because he loves me, but I can't...get him to adopt? Even secretly? It's not like he or I actually believe in "royal blood" being some magic elixir. I just think I could have convinced a real person who was in love to see those possibilities if given the chance. It's entirely counterintuitive to think you could be that much in love and not find a way to make it work.
My end conclusion is: He's just not that smart and not really that much in love. Not enough to ask my opinion or fight for it. So it's not a partnership. It was an infatuation and he gave up on it. And it wasn't for Ferelden's sake, it was because he lacked the will to fight or forge a new way.
I was a bit offended that he dumps the PC on the basis of race/social class. Especially for the elven PC, here's a HUGE opportunity to turn things around for the elven race! If my boon can be that the Circle of Magi is set free of the Chantry's supervision, then surely the country can handle an elven or dwarven or common Queen.....who also happens to be THE HERO OF FERELDEN!!!! That whole archdemon slaying thing doesn't count for anything???
As for the infertility issue, my plan as Queen would have been to declare a pregnancy, disappear to a country chalet, convince Leliana to surrogate for us (my first PC bore an uncanny resemblance to Leliana, anyway....), and return to Denerim 9-ish months later with the new heir to the throne. Problem solved. The kid will be at least in his/her late 20's by the time he/she has to take the throne, and we're not even lying about him being of royal blood. Win-win-win!
I still love Alistair. His vulnerability is endearing. If he were a dog, I think he'd be a golden lab: goofy and loyal.
And by the by, David Gaider said that Alistair's character is inspired from Xander from Buffy, and Mal from Firefly. Who doesn't love those two???

I'm sure you've heard this already countless times before, but if you harden him and choose just the right dialogue at the "break-up" moment he won't dump you. Hardening truly makes all the difference in the world. After my elf got dumped I was heart-broken and couldn't continue with that game so I started a new one with the intention of hardening him. It wasn't just that he didn't break up with my elven pc this time around but he also completely changed about becoming king. He wasn't whiney in the least and stepped up to the plate before I even had to choose a king. That's my Ali.
Great idea about about Leliana as a surrogate too.
On another note, I find it strange how most people condemn Alistair not for his whineyness, ..........ahem, I mean sensitivity, but for not sticking by the PC's side if you decide to welcome Logain into your party with open arms. Huh?
I suppose most people choose Logain over Alistair because of their admiration for Logain in the books. To each his own and I can understand that completely. But don't expect Alistair to. In essence you really are choosing Logain over Alistair and he sees it as betrayal.

I believe that Recidiva posted on these forums something like :
The PC is like the driver of a school bus with all the companions as the school kids.
It wasn't worded exactly like that, but you get the idea. I think she's spot on.
Heh. Yeah. It's why I have trouble playing evil characters, because I lose my patience and temper awfully fast with the kids. In this current playthrough (which is strategic, but...not...FUN...exactly...which is the problem) so far I've made Morrigan leave, killed Zevran, never even met Leliana, killed Wynne, never activated Shale...and give all the gifts left over to Alistair so he'll like me enough to feed himself to a dragon. Without me having to ask. I'm now taking advantage of everybody's character flaws and amassing a personal fortune while setting everyone's tactics to cover me while I don't actually kill much of anything.
I think I said that you're the driver and if you give anybody else the wheel, they'll lead you straight off a cliff. But it's fun if you like kids and you want to hang out wtih them and sing "The Wheels On The Bus Go Round and Round" with them. With Oghren insisting that wheels are really boobies.

So what are the right dialogue choices? My human mage got dumped (non-hardened, fair enough) but I hardened Al for the second playthrough (Dalish Elf) and STILL got dumped! I was gutted.
