I'm sure you've heard this already countless times before, but if you harden him and choose just the right dialogue at the "break-up" moment he won't dump you. 

So what are the right dialogue choices? My human mage got dumped (non-hardened, fair enough) but I hardened Al for the second playthrough (Dalish Elf) and STILL got dumped! I was gutted.

He was hardened and he still dumped you??? Why that little....... !!!!    He's playing hard to get, I see.  

Let me think for a moment........   I've only played it all the way through once.  For some reason or another I keep quitting and starting a new character.  From what I remember, Alistair says something about not being able to have an heir.  You reply "But not for lack of trying."  I forget which line comes next, but then there is a response where you can say "Nobody can tell the king what to do."  Your coercion and cunning probably have to be pretty high too.  My coercion was maxed out and I think my cunning was over 25, maybe even as high as 30.  Maybe someone who has a better memory than I have can help a bit more.

LOL Amethyst I'm actually a female... Most games I play that are like this I always play a male character.  As soon as I load my female character from my game I'll be changing my avatar lol... Though it won't help with my name but oh well... I am female though lmao

 Ooops, sorry.  We really do need more guys on Team Alistair though.

My husband thinks he's great and always considered how his choices would affect Alistair. Of course, I think he liked him a bit more before he realized just how deep my crush for him is. Heh. Actually, he thinks that's funny too. He got mad at me for making him sleep with Morrigan, allowing her to become the next Flemeth (in his mind) and make Alistair lose his child. But my first PC and Al rebuilt the Grey Wardens and are now going off to search for Morrigan so we can take the baby back.   I just hope there's an expansion that let's us really play it out.

My husband consoled me when Alistair dumped me.  And when he wouldn't let him take the final blow.

He'd probably have a dream where I cornered Alistair at a cocktail party, threw a drink in his face and stalked off.

So different impressions over all.

I chose to tell him I'd have to think of a suitable punishment, for which he sounded a bit excited. But then, as an Elven Mage he seems to be even easier to romance than as a Cousland.

Despite the circumstances, it was a really funny conversation trying to convince him to do the ritual.  "Your wildest dreams are about to come true, sex with Morrigan!"

I might be a little sick, but that's one of my favourite conversations in the game. Especially if you tell him the truth about the ritual. OMG...awesome expressions, voice acting, everything.

I prefer to tell him the truth, too. It's bugged anyway since he'll know about the child in the end, shrug and look stupid at questions from Orlesian Wardens.

I was curious if you need to persuade him to do the ritual and ... well, obviously you don't. The persuasion check seems to be
an option to cut the discussion short. You can go for other dialogue choices and he'll still agree. Very evil to tell him that he'll do it if he loves you. (Weird thing to say, if you really love me go and bed the ****y witch you like to bicker with.) He'll say something about how you have him wrapped around your little finger.

And all he asks Morrigan is if she's going to use the kid against him and Ferelden. (He was hardened, though, dunno what he does if he's not.)
