Alistair in leather pants shield bashing?

LOL.  I'm just not going to be able to keep a straight face when the hubby comes home. Image IPB

No, I was just thinking how my husband and Alistair are roughly the same build and have sort of the same haircut and was just wondering if I could convince him to wear leather pants and talk with an English accent.  hee, hee.  Maybe as a Valentine's Day gift to me. Image IPB (Would suggest shining armor, but I'd guess in the middle of February it would be a little......cold)

Show him Farscape. He might like Cricton better.

Probably only if I agreed to dress in swamp rags and get a black wig and pretend I was Morrigan though. Still, that could work.Image IPB  Oooh, so much planning before Valentine's Day. Now where to buy swamp rags? (I think I already have a black wig around here somewhere - he's into Joan Jett  - what can I say)  Image IPB

That's what everyone needs right there.  Bioware, are you writing this down?  We want, we want, we want!  Oh dear, this would probably make David Gaider blush though, we don't want that. Image IPB

Yeah, he can't wait til the new Joan Jett movie comes out.  I like Kristen Stewart, but not so much Joan Jett myself (edit, but then again I'm kind of an 80's fanatic too, so I understand his fascination with her).

Hmmm, does anyone else see a resemblence between Morrigan and a young Joan Jett.  Never realized that until just now.  Maybe that's his fascination with Morrigan.  Morrigan does kind of have that whole punk rock look going on.

I have thought on this subject...
My conclusion is that he must be weak, or a follower as you will, so your character can be the main lead Grey Warden.
Otherwise, Allistair would be.

Or he's staying back, watching what happens. I suspect the idea was that he could grow or mature into the position. That caveat tossed in ... I think you are right. It always bugged me a bit that he stepped back so easily. Being emotional over losing people was not a problem in my view. Not stepping up is.

I haven't finished the game but I've gathered that if you don't kill Loghain he bails. If he takes the throne he dumps the female pc if she isn't a human noble. It isn't a matter of emotions or duty guiding him, but ambition cloaked in the do-goody, boyscout sanctimonious attitude that is his guide. Ultimately, whatever Ali wants dictates if he acts on emotion or duty or some other handy little rationalization.

A previous argument was made that one has to wait for the right time to stand on principles. That argument fails and has always failed however often it has been followed. Expediency is not an ethical choice.

Try a game where your human female noble, don't make Alistair King n romance him n then sacrifice yourself... it's got an enteresting ending, 1 that I'm very very interested to see the outcome of on future games.

I'm going to sound incredibly shallow right now but...

1) He's hot.

2) He's going to be king

3) He makes me laugh (actually switch that with number 1)

4) He listens to what I say... (hmm switch this with number 2)

Ok then thats why I like him. I will admit though my real favorite is Leliana... but he is alot more appealing then puss n boots.... err I mean Zevran.

And as for the whole king thing men with political power turn me on sometimes... and Imagine one that actually listens to what I say... omph dream come true Image IPB but you know thats a personal thing Image IPB

I've got to agree. When I was younger, macho types kind of appealed to me - at least a bit. But that got old really quickly. By the time I was out of my teens I was looking for something else.

The accent does nothing for me, but I'm Australian. The voice, however, is gorgeous. Alistair is loyal, sensitive, funny, and sweet. He's also very insecure and rather juvenile (but hey, he's only about 20 years old from what I could tell and grew up in a monastery). I don't find those big flaws though - he'll grow out of them, just like the rest of us did.

Is he the best romance in the game? Debatable.

Is he a dream come true for me? No.

But he is far more 'real' and far more attractive to me than gung-ho macho types who won't discuss their feelings or even admit they have them. I want a relationship with a human being, not a damn robot, not a Sylvester Styrofoam wannabe, not Mr Perfect always does his duty, never makes a mistake, is never human at all, cardboard cut-out doll.

And if I play a male character, I want the same things in female npcs. I much prefer Morrigan to Leliana - but not for her looks. She seems 'human' to me: complex, layered, with her own goals and motivations and drives, that may or may not coincide with mine. And she does what she thinks is right - not what I think is right (same as Alistair). Do I 'like' her, not terribly much because our morals, ethics, and philosophy of life don't coincide; does she appeal to me as a character - hell, yeah. Zevran didn't appeal at all until I started to get to know him and his background better. But he is definitely growing on me now. Again, philosophically and ethically antithetical, but considering his background and training very understandable.

All the characters 'gel' for me. Some are a bit stereotypical. Some don't appeal physically, or ethically, or their personality drives me nuts. But that makes them so much more real. I've been in a considerable number of groups over the years - and that's what people are like.

I think somewhere in the game Alistair says (or maybe it was Duncan who said it) that he has been a Gray Warden for six months.  Although I get the feeling Alistair has known Duncan for longer than that considering how close they were.

I think he desperately wanted a father figure. And then someone in that awesome beard walks in...

Again with the beard.  I think we ladies should start a thread called "Why do men love Duncan's beard so much? Image IPB

My thoughts exactly. Even in my younger days, macho types bored me. Predictable and always too competitive for my tastes. One thing I can't stand is  attempts to assert dominance over me, it hits the wrong buttons. Thus, in a game, I always have a bad taste for characters that try the same.

Alistair is rather unique in terms of RPG male romancables. He's quite screwed up and goofy, yet really has no problem with it. He openly admits his faults, and doesn't even get really mad if you occassionally tease him. No big ego trips. He doesn't really take himself seriously. I find his goofy naievte to be quite endearing. He's immature. Is that a bad thing? usually I find most "mature, responsible" types to be incredibly boring and lacking imagination. And I say this as someone who is 36 and happily married.

In the end, I quite adore Alistair for his faults as well as his strengths. And add to that, is the fact you get to play a bit of a hero to him, something a female character seldom ever gets to do. Which i find rather romantic and sexy.
