This is the correct area, yes? I looked around and this seemed to be the best fit. I also apologize if this has been answered already. I checked the Patch stickies, the FAQs, and used the search tool and didn't find anything directly related to my question. Well, I found a single thread in the General Discussion area that was related to my query, but there were no responses to it and it was in the wrong section, so I didn't bother bumping it.

As the title implies, my Rogue PC is failing to backstab enemies. I have tried attacks from multiple positions (Front, directly behind, inside the range that you get with the Combat Movement skillI), and have made certain that all sustained skills have been dactivated and that I am using daggers. I believe that this issue may be tied to a separate bug that causes the particle systems denoting a Rune-enhanced weapon to fail to activate. For example, I have a T6 The Edge that has an Expert Paralyze Rune and a Master Flame Rune. Normally, it glows and burns with the same fire I see elsewhere on the map (torches, etc.); however, sometimes, especially after loading from Main Menu, this effect fails to occur. Why do I believe the two are tied? I find that backstabbing does work when I have a mage cast Frost Weapons, which overrides existing effects and adds a frost one. This happens even when the effect from runes fails. After casting this spell, my rogue is able to backstab enemies. I have not deactivated the spell as of yet, so I don't know what happens beyond. I don't often keep melee-based Rogues in my party (which currently consists of Shale, Morrigan, and Oghren), so I haven't seen if it happens or not with characters other than the PC.

I'll admit, my personal testing of this bug has not been extensive. I did what I could think of during a short mini-boss fight, and rushed to post this after discovering the link between Frost Weapons and backstabs, in the hopes that Technical Support would be able to find any potential link and solve an issue that appears to have gone unnoticed up to this point.

Just to be safe, here's a quick fact sheet about my character:
-Human
-Rogue
-Level 19 (Jumped from 16 to 19 using rune and elfroot donations)
-Normal Difficulty
-Currently in the Deep Roads, completing the traps Branka could not pass. Up to the four-faced stone structure.
-I did use a respecialization mod to replace some skills I had mistakenly placed as a low-level character in order to fit the character archetype I desired.

I don't know what of that, if any, is directly useful, but I know that knowing more about a situation is always helpful. Hoping for a fix soon, but until then, I think I'll be able to manage with a +Cold Damage buff.
