ok... im stuck at Redcliff... on the Defence part.
Im thinking i might have shot myself in the foot buying drinks for everyone... But ah well.. i cant go back and change that =(. So.. here's how far i can get.
I can make it threw the first part of the battle easily.. up at the knights.. Ive got the fire-barricade set up and the zombies that flood that area die fairly quickly... Its when the scout runs up and tells me the main building is getting attacked that things go wrong. I run down and join the fight.. but the Militia drop like flies =T (im guessing thats the free beer part biting me in the arse.. but again.. cant change that choice =( ) The militia get swarmed over.. and i manage to hold my own... up untill the point were the undead start to come down the path from were the Knights were (i guess even the knights get over-ran...) Anyone have any tips for this place?.. im fine up untill i have to run down to help the militia.. then i simply just get swarmed and run out of potions.
Help at Redclicff?

Well here's the wierd part.. the scout runs up.. tells me the undead are comming in.. and i get a option to issue an order... BUT... the only order i can tell is "Knights stay here"... there is no other option... i'd realy rather have them go down with me to the other place.. could prolly hold out longer then.. but eh.. im stuck.

I am also stuck at this point. I help the knights defeat the undead in right next to the windmill. (Sometimes I have to run into the green area to get a few lackeys to get the militia guy to run to me). After that happens and I run down to help the militia I just seem to have to fight a never ending amount of undead and they all overwhelm me and everything. I tried dragging them back to the knights but more are there everytime i come back I dont know what to do now.

I may just turn the difficulty to easy for this quest =T, realy wish i could have the Knights follow me down to the militia.. cause after about 2 or 3 waves of undead, i start seeing the undead comming down the hill from were the Knights were.. which makes me think they end up dying up there.

I think its bugged unless you are supposed to kill 50+ undead where the militia barricade is

I agree that this quest is actually the only major problem I have had since the start. The first boss ogre gave me some trouble but nothing like this. They just keep coming and militia always die, and I always try to attack the ones that militia are attacking so that I keep them up but they are horrible.
I think the way to do it would be to retreat up to the knights, but I am not sure at what point that should be done. I run out of health pots so soon.

It took me probably about 20 minutes to finish this part. My main character was the only one alive during that nasty second phase.. I had to get a group of undead and run them up to the knights and keep running circles until the knights killed them all. Rinse and repeat. By the end, all of the knights up top were dead and I had to kill the last 4 zombies on my own

gonna set it to easy difficulty and try again =T see if it goes any better.

I seriously need help here. The only npc that has died (so far) is the mayor ... all others are alive ... but... those attacks?! 1 zombie coming every 10mins or so... I was in the battle part for 1hour... and I STILL HAVENT finished the defence.
Please, help me! What in the blazing nine overfreezed hells am I doing wrong?

Yeah, I'm having the same problem here. I'm not sure how many waves there's suppossed to be, but I'm guessing "infinite" isn't the correct number.

One thing that definitely helps is if you do -all- of the prepwork for the quest. You should have:
* Picked up oil at the general store to set up flaming barricades (talk to the knight)
* Recruited the elf archer at the tavern if you have a good enough Persuade
* Gotten the dwarf Dwyn to join the defense (he takes silver, 100 to be exact)
* Talked the blacksmith into repairing the armor for the militiamen
* Convinced the holy mother to give protection amulets to the knights (might cause problems with Leiliana/Alistair, so if you're romancing them be careful)
If you do the missing kid quest in Kaitlyn's house you get a quite nice Tier 4 sword, too, so it's worth exploring Redcliffe thoroughly before you tell Murdock it's time to wait.

I'm finding this one completely impossible. I've already done the elves (and all the badies there...) but a bunch of zombies are completely stonewalling me. The second part down below I just can't survive.

how?! What did you do?! You didnt get endless zombie attacks? The attacks stopped eventually? The defence is over?

heh i tried the Missing Kid quest.... but.. my persuasion sucks =P so didnt get the swrod... but as i said.. this is my first playthrew.. so more about haveing 'fun' than realy getting down to the nitty-gritty stratigy of the game =D.. might take a break from my current quest/chatacter and actualy start that other one tomarrow =D take my time and use what ive learned from this one in that.

lead the zombies on a benny hill chase scene through the docks. you eventually break them down to groups of 1-2. i get the feeling it's actually a timed section because for every seven i killed another seven just walked out of the river. leading them out into the docks and luring the remaining stuff up the hill a few times managed to keep me alive long enough to pass that timer.

Just wait, it took me a real long ass time to get the last two or three to show up to the death parade.

If it's a timed one, then that doesn't explain those of us who've been at it for half an hour to an hour with no end in sight.moose o death wrote...

yeh, this seems like a bugged quest or something. Even when I did all the prep quests before going on the defence, the militia dropped like flies, and so did my party. I ended up luring the zombies from down below up to the windmill so the knights could take care of them and it just seemed like never ending waves, which took me a looong time to complete.I was playing on hard difficulty. It's sorta ironic that the knights who are the best warriors get tasked with the easiest defence. I'm pretty sure it's impossible for the militia to survive at all. The good thing is you can loot all their corpses, so be sure to do that, I only looted a couple and thought that I could finish looting after the quest was done but I was mistaken :\\\\
the devs need to take a look at this quest to see if there is a bugged trigger

i died the first two times. U just gotta really micromanage ur party. If u have morrigan, make use of all her spells. Try concentrarting on 1 enemy flanking it with ur melee characters. last but not least, drink lotsa potions.

This one cause me a lot of trouble. Although I made all preparations (except the blessing), the second wave crushes the militia and finally my group as well. Healing portions don't take long enough, and it seems my group is not well prepared against overnumbered enemy. Two mages a rouge and a warrior seems not the best combination here.
What is more, mages seems less efficient to me than fighters. THey are running out of mana soon, and regen. is really slow. Some spells are nice however...

I remember having to fight off what seemed to be an endless horde of them down in the village. One tactic that I thought worked was swarming one of two of them, and constantly assisting the militia so they wouldn't die.
Getting to the walking corpses as soon as they appear on your mini-map also helps, since the party is usually way more powerful than the militia. If you get overwhelmed, the walking corpses are usually susceptible to incapacitation abilities and spells.
Having the corpses keep spawning forever and ever is definitely a bug, but there are also a whole lot of corpses to get through.
