This quest is beyond bugged. I'm glad that I can't advance in my game because a game with a monster budget couldn't afford to QA a quest so early in the game.

+1 for this guy.

I'm not even frustrated anymore; I'm just angry.  I was having a TON of fun up to this point but the entire zone is screaming broken to me.

Phase one of this encounter, you're on a flaming hill where zombies straggle in, rarely more than 3 at a time, despite the fact that you already have a party of 4 and that there are 5 combat veteran NPCs nearby that can handle the zombies without you raising a finger.

Part 2, you fight an ENDLESS HORDE OF ZOMBIES that completely overwhelm some worthless NPCs (although some of them are named NPCs and probably give you extra rewards for keeping them alive) and then completely overwhelm you.  I've had to spam potions, and despite having pretty good gear and building my character as a raw tank, I can't survive more than 3 minutes.  I brought a well-rounded party into the area, and they all get slaughtered without anything I can do on my part.  I've spammed AOE stuns and damage moves as much as I am able, chugged potions and poutices, and CAN NOT PROGRESS.

It's killed my will to play.  All the tactics people have described using to beat this part suggest that the quest is obviously too hard or completely broken.  Kiting zombies 1 by 1 up a hill to where other NPCs are waiting is obviously not what the game makers intended because doing so completely kills the feeling that you're facing an army of undead monsters.

If anyone knows of a God mode, let me know, because at my current level, without resorting to game-breaking tactics, this fight is literally impossible.

Freezing the revenant and then shattering him with a critical hit power attack of some kind won that battle for me on the first try. I was amazed, because prior to that it didn't look like I was doing any damage to him at all.

Hooray for instant kill attacks. :D

I simply can't win this, no matter what. I've made my way through all of Warden's Keep, won the big final fight there against the waves of demons, but the same group cannot manage to fight through the zombie waves down with the militia at all. I don't know if it's actually "bugged" but this fight is most definitely "broken."

It took me a couple of tries (on Normal) but I did manage to finally to get through it. I got everything done except for the flaming barricades. The first part goes easily, as long as you hang back and engage the zombies with everyone else there won't be a problem. In the second part, definitely take out any yellow zombies first. After that make use of any stunning abilities you have, have Morrigan cast Horror to take another zombie out of combat, etc. Don't try to taunt until the number of zombies approaches a manageable size, otherwise you'll simply die. Also try to work WITH the militia by engaging enemies they are already attacking-don't just leave them to their own devices.

Here's free tip to Bioware. If you choose to design swarm type of encounter, make sure you have mob counter somewhere showing x / 50 (or whatever number) mobs killed. Because definately after 10, 15, 30 mins you start to wonder if encounter is just stupid design or a bugged.

@SandmanCCL:

Download the latest patch (http://social.biowar...ame_patches.php) which makes easy mode easier. Set the difficulty to easy during the troublesome sections, and you should be powerful enough to win, even with terribly glitching. During the second zombie wave, kill the zombies quickly, especially those that become stuck around the fire. Stuck zombies seem to trigger more waves.

It's difficult... Not broken.

finally did it on my third try. i had dog with me and his howl or what ever it was called(the one that stuns all enemies) helped a great deal. I still lost all but 1 npc in the second phase but at least it is done. on my second play through i will try and level morigen to be more of a healer and try to keep all militia alive.

This is definitely a tough part of the game, but it is doable. Micro-manage your party members to keep the damage they take to a minimum, drink lots of potions and do all the side quests before hand and you will be fine.

Fighting a horde of zombies for over an hour = Broken.  Or just extremely poor game design choice.  I prefer to think that it's just poor coding because Bioware has been money on everything else so far this game.

Don't talk down to me like I must obviously suck if I'm having difficulty at a part of the game that is nonsensically difficult.  I've beaten the entire BG saga solo, multiple times, on the hardest difficulty without ever having to reload an area due to me dying.  I'm not an RPG scrub.

On this segment, I have burnt through like 20 health poultices and all of the 8 lycium potions I have, and there still wasn't an end of the zombie horde.

I downloaded the mini-patch and am going to give it another attempt on easy.  I hope I can get through it because I've loved every other aspect of the game I've encountered so far.

Far as I know I kept all the militia and such alive, so got a special helm for anyone who was wondering what the reward was that they mentioned.

Note that I did it on easy however :)

I posted in this forum my advice for beating it with no deaths to any militia and knights(and as draken mentioned you get a special helm for it)

It SEEMED bugged for me, but really, there are a LOT of walking corpses, a TON of them, they just keep coming and coming

In short, I had 2 healers and kept healing all the NPCs, and stunning as much as I could(cone of cold was great)

I managed to beat this thing on normal, but I lost about half the militia in the process.  I did all my leg work prior to the fight so the militia had good gear, the mercenaries backed up the knights and I threatened the elf spy and the barkeep into fighting with the militia.

The first assault with the knights on the hill wasn’t bad.  As with everyone else, the second assault with the militia was a nightmare.  It took a couple of tries but basically what worked in the end was a lot of micro managing.  I used my two tanks to keep the zombies off the militia, the bard and magic user as much as possible.  At one point there is a lull in the fighting so I moved the ranged characters part way the hill and put the tanks on the choke point of the path.  This kept the party alive until the end, but only barely.

I don’t think there is a bug with the amount of zombies that swarm.  I think this fight is purposefully hard as sin.  That being said I did encounter one annoying bug.  After the fight was over I couldn’t transition out of the scene. The game just kept looping that damn action music.  As it turns out, there was one zombie caught on one of the buildings in the town.  Once I killed him the battle ended, but it took about 20 minutes to find him.

Fun stuff.

gets me what ppl are complaining about... I did Redcliff just now as Warrior straight first place after the start sequence. So long as you are SMART.. use you HEAD and use 'Gang' tactics you can get through the fight.. also as people are mentioning 2 - 3 of the zombies kinda don't come in .. go attack them and kill them... fight is over.. easy as that.. Stop sitting on your ass expecting the story to come to you..

and if you don't know what 'Gang' Tactics are .. it's using every one to take down 1 creature as fast as possible and then moving on to the next.. because you can take them down quicker.. and before ppl say oh you did it on easy.....

I am playing on Normal, I have not changed the Difficulty, the only quest thing I did was give the Militia their armor (the smith back working by promising i'd find his daughter).

I lost no knights, and I lost about 3 of the militia.. the party was me (warrior) Sten morgan and the female chick you pick up in the bar.. the rogue. so there was no healing but health pots.
