There are FIVE threads about sex on the 1st page alone.
Let this topic die already.

Anyone would think Dragon Age was a game about the politics of sexual orientation...

(It isn't.)

Out-of-context quotes are so beneath you.

Yeah, in this instance context is hella-important.

Death of the author can apply to any text. I'd recommend it as the starting point of an analysis. The context may be important, but the quote is accurate while standing alone as well.

Not when it is attached to Sylvius' signature. At best, it is simply manipulative opportunism that ignores the issue to which it was attached, an issue of greater importance than textual criticism or, and this is where it gets bad...

...when it's used as an endorsement of Sylvius' position regarding the (hidden) writer intent when it comes to silent protagonist dialogues. That implication is disingenuous, as Mary said no such thing in the original statement.

In this case, it isn't textual criticism that is at stake anyway. It is out of context attribution of a quote given as an endorsement of a different, broader position. That's a different matter.

That would help narrow the gap between the sexualization of female characters and the lack thereof among males, to be sure.

You know, I always wonder why women (IRL) are allowed to have these two bulges under their shirt and it's okay, but can I wear spandex? Nooo...

Since when am I supposed to be self concious about my bulge?  I think I will continue not being so.
Also: one of the best covers of one of the best songs ever written, (with bulge) www.youtube.com/watch

Moreover, I think the original context did support death of author generally, which is why I used it.

I've been asked to change it, and I have.

Was it opportunisitic?  Yes.  Was it manipulative?  I don't see how.

Yes she did.  She recognised that her intent, as the writer, didn't matter when considering how the content was interpreted.

In this case, it isn't textual criticism that is at stake anyway. It is out of context attribution of a quote given as an endorsement of a different, broader position. That's a different matter.

Broader, yes.  Different, no.

And I didn't even do it intentionally in this thread.  I posted in this thread before I even saw Mary's remark - the signature was changed retroactively.

Right. What I'm saying is that the reason why a transgendered elf is working at the Blooming Rose and not, say, a transgendered ANYTHING ELSE is because it's a running gag in fantasy that elves are all effeminate. They made this joke in DAO as well.

Zevran: Hello, my stocky little friend!
Oghren: Huh. You got small breasts for a gal.

I thinl there's a transgender human in DA2, I think for 1 gold.  And I know there's one in Origins, if you pick a little of both.

Firstly, with Anders example I was thinking more spending time together and playfully flirting with them, assuming they don't have a problem with that, and less pestering and being pushey about getting them to "give it a go".

I was trying to keep it brief and have a liking for big words that are fun to say. A habit that has bitten me in the butt this time. I apolagise if it made anybody uncomfortable reading it. I've edited it now so let me know if it's any better. if not i'll just delete it :P

Secondly, regarding David Bowie buldge. Can you guys just make a thread in the general discussion about that? As majestic as it is, it's not exactly relevant. Thanks.

Regardless of whether she's an in-joke or not, she's still proof that transgendered people do exist in Thedas so bringing another into the setting isn't so crazy.

Well, if someone genuinely prefers a different gender, you're not going to convince him/her otherwise. Only way this could work is something like...

Anders: I'm sorry. I don't know if I could ever really love another man after... after losing Karl *sad face Anders*

You persist in your flirting though, and eventually win him over.

How this won't work:

Anders: I've never been with a man before and never really wanted to. Sorry... Is it enough for me to call you a friend?

You keep flirting with him and he eventually changes his mind. This does not happen in RL lol

Of course it won't, but my example was assuming Anders is the funny womanizer from Awakening and that Dragon Age 2 had romance options work for both genders regardless of Hawke's gender. So it's not a case of Anders not being interested, it's a case of Anders either not really exploring that part of his sexuality before or even not know about it. Both of those things DO happen in the real world. And have people have mentioned, sexual orientation isn't static.

Let this crap die already.

1) Don't like it, don't click on it.
2) This isn't about sex, it's about sexuality. Sex doesn't even need to come into it. This topic was intended to discuss how we'd all like to see sexuality as a character trait used in future Dragon Age games(or games in general). Whether you want it to just stick to just defining what gender people are or if you'd like to see it explored in more detail. No, not that kind of detail.

Are you reffering to the transvestite dwarf? Because, I don't even think they got any dialogue and, once again, was played for laughs. I think they pop up again in DA2 where the same happens. I could be wrong though.

The Old God Baby needs to look like this.

Will he be voiced by David Bowie? Because if he is, I'll pre-order the game.
