I've been having some problems with DirectX 11. Whenever I try to play the game with 11 on, it simply crashes upon startup and I'm forced to close it down. I've spoken with EA support, but none of their suggested solutions worked. This isn't completely game-breaking as I'm able to play on DirectX 9, but it is quite frustrating as I meet all the system requirements and my drivers are up to date.

Non-successful EA Support solutions:
Update your drivers and DirectX (both were already done)
Clear out your temporary files
Disable full screen.

I have the same problem since I updated my graphic drivers... DirectX 11 option makes my game freeze on startup, while DX9 works without any problems.

My PC:
MSI GT70
Intel Core i7-3610QM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 670M
12 GB RAM DDRIII

For a while there were no drivers for my laptop's graphic card, cause I guess it's too new, so it ran on default ones already installed in the factory, DA2 ran perfectly on DX11 and now, since the update it just freezes on startup animation (Flemeth Dragon stuff).

PS: I reinstalled the game, updated it again and downloaded even newer drivers, but the problem still occurs.

Simple from my viewpoint. Go back to the older, better drivers that used to work.  However, see also the comment about complete information already asked to the OP.

Intel's Smoke and Mirrors do not meet the requirement of a real, actual, discrete gaming quality video graphics card, sorry.

My video card is Nvidia GeForce 635M.

a)  The "M" is code for "underpowered ",

and;

B) Your post said "Display adapter - Intel HD Graphics Family"  Which indicates that the game is using the integrated Intel adapter, not the add-on nVidia gpu, and so Just-Me's comment is still applicable.

I see. Thank you for your help then.

Although a key article is making itself scarce, the facts are spelled out.

Anand Lal Shimpi's discourse on Jen-Hsun's soapbox being between a rock and hard place is eluding Google's little spiders.

www.foxnews.com/tech/2012/10/16/why-can-ignore-windows-8/

nVIDIA still makes the fastest video graphics cards, but a 635 is relatively slow.  nVIDIA no longer puts a high priority on releasing good video graphics drivers, and soon will be out of the PC gaming space entirely.  They cannot afford to sell nothing but the high end graphics cards.  Far too few $150 and upward cards are sold to keep any company in business, but AMD is already giving away free graphics in the $75 - $85 space and below that, included in their APUs.

Intel is already giving away graphics in the $55 and under retail space, which is where the largest profit formerly was found.  Both AMD and Intel are moving their included graphics up the next notch within another year.  AMD will have the $110 and downward retail space covered, while Intel will be moving into the $75 and under retail space.  Eventually, only "High-Medium" and upward video graphics will be offered on discrete cards, and nVIDIA will either be in a different area or bankrupted.

That's not taking into account the future shifts in the computing paradigm.  PCs as they exist today probably do not have very long to go on in a recognizable form within the personal / home space.  Greater and greater compactness will be driving computing, with AMD and Intel working to dive into small spaces from where they are now, and cell phone developers expanding capability out of the current place into PC territory (it's that cellphone area that nVIDIA has been concentrating on).

If you actually do have a Geforce GT 635m, you need drivers that actually work, instead of leaving the Intel video chip running everything.  nVIDIA shut down their forums some while ago, so there's nowhere to go to complain, and Laptop owners are way up the bad-named creek with no paddle when it comes to replacing useless video hardware.  If/when you do get good drivers, you may not be satisfied with what your card is able to do with the game.  From nVIDIA, you need a card with a "60", not a "35", like a GTX 460, GTX 560, GTX 660.

P. S. (added 15 hours later) I suppose I need to look up when nVIDIA got Dx11 capability.  They were very late to market with it.  I kinda think that the Fermis (GTX 4nn) were first, but a low end card of any kind will struggle with high-demand graphics, such as offered in the Dx11 Very High settings of DA-2.  nVIDIA's "10", "20", and "30" cards reside in the basement, with the 40s and 50's being the borderline area between low end and gaming quality.  Some cards, such as the GTX 550 Ti, are decent enough -- nothing great about them, but they'll handle the majority of games.

Well... I acknowledge Just-Me's anti-nVidia stance, (and right to that opinion) but I believe it colours his remarks in unusual shades.

King Cousland's real issue is learning how to disable/turn-off the integrated Intel graphics adapter so that the game can use the add-on one. That is a hardware issue, and the best source for that information is the hardware (laptop) manufacturer's forums, not here.

nVIDIA hasn't cheated me, personally, since they lied to the world about their FX 5nnn Geforces. The fact that they have to get out of PCs and into something with a profit potential isn't a matter of opinion. That is just market forces affecting the company.  PC computing just cannot support a company their size now that there is no remaining low end to sell.  They are now involved in creating the next generations of smartphones, where they may be able to survive, exactly the way the various articles described.

The particular article at AnandTech that predated nVIDIA's licensing of the ARM technology hasn't yet showed up in a Google search.  I may use Yahoo next, if I really think it matters whether anyone else understands what I've reported.

Yeah, getting out of the PC card business:

Source: http://en.wikipedia....orce_600_Series

History

In September 2010, Nvidia first announced the new architecture.

In early 2012, details of the first members of the 600 series parts emerged. These initial members were entry-level laptop GPUs sourced from the older Fermi architecture.

On March 22, 2012, the first Kepler products joined the 600 series: the GTX 680 for desktop PCs and the GeForce GT 640M, GT 650M, and GTX 660M for notebook/laptop PCs. The GK104 (which powers the GTX680) has 1536 CUDA cores, in eight groups of 192, and 3.5 billion transistors. The GK107 (GT 640M/GT 650M/GTX 660M) has 384 CUDA cores.

On April 29, 2012, the first dual GPU Kepler product joined the 600 series. The GTX 690 has two of the GTX 680's GPUs, equalling 3072 CUDA cores and 512-bit memory.

On May 10, 2012, GTX 670 joined the series. The card features 1344 CUDA cores, 2GB GDDR5 VRAM and 256-bit memory bus.

On June 4, 2012, GTX 680M joined the series. This mobile GPU based on the powerful GTX 670 features 1344 CUDA cores, 4GB GDDR5 VRAM & 256-bit memory bus.

On August 16, 2012, GTX 660 Ti joined the series. The card has 1344 CUDA cores along with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM and 192-bit memory bus.

On September 13, 2012, GTX 660 and GTX 650 joined the series. The GTX 660 has 960 CUDA cores and the GTX 650 has 384 CUDA cores. 2GB GDDR5 VRAM and a 192-bit memory bus for the GTX 660 and 1GB GDDR5 VRAM and a 128-bit memory bus for the GTX 650.

On October 9, 2012, GTX 650 Ti joined the series. The card features 768 CUDA cores along with 1GB GDDR5 VRAM and 128-bit memory bus

NVIDIA have been building their smartphone chips for years now.  If you think that is evidence they are going to suddenly stop making desktop graphics cards, then you are colossally mistaken.  I could easily make the claim that AMD is going to stop making their own cards because their processor business is in the tank, and I'd be just as wrong.  Stop spreading your ridiculous opinions as fact and derailing threads, thanks.

Is your sound card up to date? It can cause crashes. Also yeah update your nvidia drivers and go into the bios and turn off the intel video part.
