I have to admit that they're starting to grow on me, TMB.
Also, we need to team up and slaughter a bunch of them this weekend! My Havoc especially likes taking it to 'em!

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the Collectors. Very well executed by BioWare

You need to come to the Collector-killing party this weekend, too!

Having said that, they're not cheap like the Geth.

It's like the return of an old dear friend... Who wants to claw my eyes out and bash my head in.
So it's just like real life for me!

They are a terrible unbalanced mess. You can brag all your want but that's the bare truth.
This. Praetorians and Scions need a 20-30% armor hit point decrease. Praetorians can fire their laser eyes from their forcefields and while dying and it hits through cover. F the collectors.
Scions can easily be taken out in seconds with concentrated fire. Plus you have to remember that they are very slow and don't attack as often as other enemies. Their weaknesses counter balance their strengths.
Praetorians are fine the way they are. Just keep moving and avoid getting close to them. They wouldn't be effective boss enemies if you weaken their armor too much.
The thing about Collectors is that it takes T.E.A.M.W.O.R.K. to effectively fight them. If you have that, then they won't be a serious problem. A challenging enemy does not mean they are overpowered. It means you have to fight with battle smarts. Bioware intended the Collectors to be challenging, but in an exhilirating and fun way.
Not directed to you, but it seems like people just complain when an enemy actually mamages to kill them and they go "NERF NERF NERF!" Do some people want the game to be an easy credit farming center?

They're fine apart from the Scions, everything about them is way out of whack. Near as I can tell they've got armor strength comparable to a Geth Prime yet appear as often as Brutes, their cannon burst can stunlock kill even the most tanky players on bronze and silver, that combined with the fact that they have pretty much no tell for when they're about to fire means it's far to easy to be stun-killed by them, and to top all that off they have a sync kill so you can't even engage them in melee either.
I like everything else about the collectors but the Scions are better boss units than the Pratoreans yet appear earlier and in greater numbers. They really need a looking at as right now they are easily the most deadly unit in the game.
This is my opinion on collectors exactly.
I really enjoy the Collectors, but I definitely think they could use a little bit of a re-balance. I don't mind them being challenging, but as it is, the scions and praetorians feel a little bit strong, especially given the amount of damage even the base units deal out. The scion in specific should have a bit of a cooldown applied, because between their constant energy blasts and their frequent grenade throwing, they're certainly powerful enough to be the boss unit, making the addition of the praetorian a little rough. In general I really like the Collectors, but they're definitely a little overwhelming at the moment, especially if you're not running the right kits.

This plus Praetorians, its like a brute plus a ravager that moves as fast as husks. These guys do need some balance, its nice having to find new tactics to fight stuff but at the moment these guys feel far tougher than I expected and with the removal of player shield gates can be a real problem especially when you get several possessed boss mobs.

Scions indeed are tough. But they are VERY slow and have weak spot.

Like everybody else has already said, you need some good teamwork to beat them. Keep away from possessed abominations and kill them from afar. Camping never works against collectors, so forget about farming; stay mobile. Equip incendiary or AP ammo.
