I fully support you guys continuing this serious discussion. However, please allow me to interject with some serious Zevran:

Let's start with Dwarves, to be "on topic":

Heh. I was just watching Rocky Horror Picture Show and I was actually thinking of drawing Zev in one of these garter outfits that they all wear on the stage at the end. He would rock it!

....Better yet, put him in Frank'n'furter's teddy.

Edited because I can type as fast as I think. Really.

We can add it to the list of productive things that have come out of this thread.

I swear, sometimes I think I'm the ONLY person who sees Zevran as masculine.

Edit: Or at least one of a few.  I just do NOT see him cross dressing!

I do.  I prefer Kaioku's vision of him, actually.  She hit it dead on for me.  However, a masculine man can still really work women's clothing if he does it right.  I think given the right circumstances Zevran would do this well.

I do see him as very masculine, but sometimes the mind does wonder what he'd look like in certain 'roles'...

Nah, I totally think of him as masculine. But I see Tim Curry as masculine, too, and that doesn't stop him from being able to wear this:

Yes! Kaioku's version is flawless. I agree with whoever else on here said they don't like a lot of the Zev art because he looks too girly in it.

I like her vision of him as well (and of the Wynnapiller, but that's another thing).  I can see him doing it on a lark, but I swear, there is so much fan art out there that portrays him as effeminate, and I just do not see that at all.

The problem is a tyrant is what Orzammer needs, the Assembly is Ozammer biggest problem, every little thing is argued over, with each house looking to gain more power/money/whatever then the others.

I disagree. Tyrany is never a good thing and Orzammar would be better off with a strong ruler who was not a tyrant. Dwarven nobles are like Feleden's human nobles - bored, mischievous, and always looking to gain the upper hand. Dwarves are just better at it because they like "the game"and will use any means to achieve it. Killing each other off is an accepted part of the game and everyone knows the stakes.

In this respect, dwarven politics seem very like what we know of Antivan politics.

I love Tim Curry, I love the Rocky Horror Picture Show, I recognize that sexuality is fluid.  I am not threatened by nor do I care what other people wear, what consenting adults they have sex with, etc etc etc.

Still... no.  I do not see it!  Not in a serious way.

You're against posting masculine Zevran pics to counter the cross-dressing ones? Image IPB

Most of the effeminate art is taking the stereotype of elf=girly/androgynous. Which is thankfully played down in DA, but it still sticks for a lot of fantasy types. Personally, my favorite elven character (before Zevran) was Resolute from Michael Stackpole's DragonCrown Cycle... so I don't much care for the stereotype.

I think he'd do it for the fun of it, or to prove that he could.  Not seriously, though, I agree on that wholeheartedly.

If you've seen Boy Meets World, in one episode, Rider Strong, who is not effeminate at all(at least as far as I'm concerned), spent 90% of one episode in 'drag'. He pulled it off very well.

Another: To Wong Foo. Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo are all in drag. Of them, only Swayze really pulled it off, but still....

Lol! Was I being serious? I didn't think I was... Is everyone else being serious?

(I don't think that Zevran would go out of his way to cross dress, but I just don't see it as threatening to masculinity or anything. If people want to draw it then draw it, and if others don't like it they don't have to look. But really, fan art exists because everyone sees characters differently. So we're all good in what we like.)

On the topic of "is it possible?": I have a very straight, very masculine-looking friend who occasionally dresses up as a goth chick and goes out with friends to mundane places. Some mutual friends have mentioned meeting "Kylie" and hitting on her, only to have him switch his voice about halfway through talking "Kylie" out of her pants. He gets major lulz out of it.

And I'd tap either, just sayin'.

*grin* I meant HIM being serious.  I can totally see him doing it as a joke, or whatever.  And I really don't care what people draw -- they can certainly do a better job than my epic stickmen.  It's just...  I've seen an awful lot of girly Zevrans lately!

Edit: And I think I'm putting my foot in my mouth so I'll stop RIGHT HERE!

DA broke all the stereotypes and its just WRONG to try to make elves/dwarves/whoever fit a mold that doesn't exist in the game.
I don't see Zevran as being in the slightest bit effeminate. He is all guy! Angles, muscles, the strength to take on ogres and dragons and win. I even love his lines that show a care-worn face with a bit of maturity yet most of the fan art I've seen portray him as a smooth-skinned girlish-looking boy. The real Zev would never pass in a line up of Thai cross-dressers. And putting him in Franknfurter's corset? YUCK!

Edit: I've got nothing against cross-dressing and even have the hots for a trannie friend IRL, but I can't envision Zevran in that role at all. Leathers for some BDSM play, yes, cross-dressing no.

Edit: Changed wording from "smooth-skinned girly boy" after learning what "girly boy" means in the US. Ugh!
