In fact, the Darkspawn Chronicles' alternative canon is all determined, according to Bartel, by "the choices a tormented Alistair would have made in your absence." Much of this alternative history, but for a devastating final cutscene, is left for the game's codex entries to relate.
Which is why I'm at least curious about it. What I wouldn't give for the developers to go crazy and have them mention Zevran convinced Alistair to 'hop borders'. Hillarity in the making.
And to my recollection (it's been ages since I actually did the final siege), Riordan tells you that you can skip the areas with the generals - it's up to you to decide if you want to kill them or not (they make the final battle tougher because they show up there? Who knows, I always went and killed them.) So it might be possible for you to skip the area, but if they want to "tug at the heartstrings" - probably not...
A-ha. (Things will be better once I get home and can read said interview... surprise, GameSpot's blocked!

) Hmmm... actually, now I'm wondering how these codex entries would mesh with your own codex -- I think they'd better be pretty clearly marked as AU!
Re: Alistair hopping borders... LOL. I was wondering what would compell Zevran to stay after Taliesen was killed, assuming that happens... maybe he stays for Alistair. . . . . .

Well, if (most of) the companions don't get special cutscenes for their deaths, sounds like there's nothing stopping them from having an epic final battle all together against the darkspawn, I guess, like in the situation below.

If you don't kill the Generals they show up during the Archdemon fight, I am not sure if its triggered at any health percent or anything but I know I ran through and didnt kill them, and noticed as I was running to the next platform one was killing all my mages.
Oooh, good to know, thanks!
