Or we can just say it's all week long :)

Zevran is one of my favourite characters in DA:O. If you don't like Zevran, you probably don't like fun. That's what Zevran was, IMO. Just a fun character to be around.

I hope you don't mind me using this quote again, Ser.

I would dig this artist a lot more if (1) her male elves weren't incredibly girly (Zevran seems blessedly somewhat masculine in her art) and (2) she didn't creep me out.  I'm all for having fun, and this hilarious eff-train she has going with a couple of other people (you should see some of the screenshots from my toolset shenanigans... I'm embarassed to put them up), but the level of objectification in their art makes me uncomfortable.  And that's saying something.  Her art is gorgeous, and I guess she's into equal-opportunity objectification (looking at some of her other art), but... I don't know.  Something about those three mages and the way they're depicted makes me feel guilty for looking.

I dare not even try to draw Zevran since my elves tend to be like ten times that girly, totally on accident. I draw everybody girly, just my style I suppose. ^^

That is a really nice fanart by the way.

That is quite thoughtful post, Tell :) I like to discuss (fan)art, so excuse my long post.
Girly? Yes, very much, but some people actually like it that way, and to this I cannot object. I was tempted to write that the guy on the right is also guy, but then I decided that it really doesn't matter and meh. I have very indifferent stance to girlyness of males in art (esp. fanart). I can't explain this better. Lol, you should check *Coelasquid  for slider pushed to extreme manlyness (in a funny good way), her art makes me go more WTF than this.
What I don't dig very much is the overly polished but still comic like style, but that is just her style like it or not.
The hilarious eff-train as you named it (LOL) is imo harmless fun that brings me giggles when observed (though I never wished to be part of anything like that, not sure if anybody understands).
And finally - I am not sure what you mean by objectification. As in sexual objectification? I don't get exactly that vibe from their fanart, but it may be closer than other fanart, yes.
Guilty for looking? I assure you I feel this while looking at ANY fanart (including my own) lol :)
Then why to post fanart that isn't "OMG it's ****ing awesome"? Because she is fairly skilled and Zevran looks good. On my secret internal scale this goes into top 15% of DA fanart at devart, and I link everything that passed there.

@people struggling with drawing males that look like males - my case also, I can only recommend drawing from life and with references, it can be learned and improved. *shrug*

I'm just jealous of how smooth they managed to make the skin look in that shot. *_* And how well-drawn the hair is. I couldn't tell at first glance what gender the PC is, but that doesn't bother me... obviously.

Re gender confusion: It's mostly the pose, and the jaw-line being fully drawn IMO. They included an adam's apple and the space between shoulderblade and chest is fine for a thin guy. I see no squished boobies in there. And putting an actual shoulderblade in = +Aro-points. XD

Also, they managed to make a kiss look like a kiss and not like they rammed their faces together randomly. That's harder than it looks!

And the eff train with their three icons is kind of frighteningly funny IMO. XD

*drops two cents in, goes back to watching Alley kick Jarvia's ass in DA* >D

Edit: I think I have the "experienced" voice on Alley, though obviously it doesn't sound like her, with her voice the way it is. Still, hilariously right after I posted I went and kicked an ambush's butt and once the last elite assassin went down she went "Next?" and I lol'd. Ah, good times. Good times.

I knew it was a guy because I recognized the character, but otherwise wouldn't have been certain. I myself am built rather like that, and am functionally ambiguous, so I could see it going either way.... Feh. Whatever. It looks good, regardless.

It's not her in particular guilty of the weird pseudo-fetishization... the three of them together are a little frightening to me. I understand that it's all in good fun, but I read subtext into their artist's notes. Subtext that probably isn't there.

well the one on the right has no boobies but the upper arm is slender ... uh... nfi... i'd put them both in the "might as well be female" box anyway

tbh i have am not even sure if have of you folks on this thread have female or male avatars sometimes anyway, but hey, whatever you're into, go for it

I just found a bunch of DA extracted textures at a Sims 2 forum, of all places.  If these might be useful for anyone the thread is here

Apparently androgyny was big with Tolkien among the elves but not modern fantasy writers.

I blame Bishounen manga-ka.

I think the face and hair look female. The eyebrows look plucked, and the hair style isn't one you tend to see on guys, and the features are rather delicate and feminine. But judging from the neck and body, it IS a guy. With a girl's head.

I don't think the DA elves are particularly androgenous (Zevran definitely isn't), but some elves are, aren't they? I don't read fantasy and I suppose elves can be anything the writer/artist wants them to be, as they don't actually exist. Maybe it's the DA ones that are unusual.

(I do wish the DA dwarves, the female ones, were more stocky, short-limbed and 'dwarf-like', but again, I suppose it's up to the creator what a dwarven race would look like.)

It's a nice, sexy picture. I don't think Zevran looks like Zevran, but then he rarely does. I can't really talk about objectification after participating in Fridays, which are all about objectification (in a nice way). And I don't know what an elf train is, or whether I should be getting on one!

some women have problems drawing men; with me it's habit as I'm a WWdesigner and primarily design for ladies, so... when I do do MW, it's t-shrts and shirts, and they're usualy set patterns.

I can't draw men or women, but I think I have an idea of the differences between them (apart from the obvious!). Some of those 'androgenous' men/elves in pictures actually have quite male bodies (slim hips, etc.).

I'm getting a little bit bored with six-packs, though. It's not that common to see a defined six-pack, even on muscular guys - I'm sure many of the models who have that very defined look are controlling their food and fluid intake, not just working out. It seems to be the norm in art, though, and I suppose there is a lot less variation in body types in fan art than there is in real life.

HeeHee! And you just happened to stumble upon it accidently of course! ^^ Hee! I love the Sims series and know that forum well.  And speaking of the Sims (which EA is overlord of as well), there is a book in World Aventures that is called "The Dragon Age".  I love it! I just can't wait til they update the gaming system in the Sims 3 again so that it plays Dragon Age as well as the other EA titles.  I want my simmies to have as much fun as I do.

As for drawing males, I feel I do ok with male bodies.  It's the faces that tend towards feminine.  I blame excessive anime influence on my art for that.

And I only found out much later that the Moomin cartoon was actually an anime *le gasp*

The Moomins was trippy as hell, and I remember being frightened of something from there
