From a few pages back, but I'm still catching up.

I can't decide if I feel like the Dalish origin is rushed or not -- but is it just me, or does Duncan come off as a bit of a douche? At least, a lot more so than the CE, HN or mage origins? :| I guess in the other origins, he's saving your ass, but for the DE, it can just feel like he's pulling you away unwillingly.

I've heard a lot of people say this, but I personally I don't really mind it. Duncan says the taint will kill you if left untreated and that the process of joining the Wardens will cure you. To me that seems like a good reason to go with him, but perhaps some might roleplay that they could find another way or that they don't believe him.

The odd part is that Duncan uses the Right of Conscription if you refuse to go willingly. I'm not sure why Dalish Elves would acknowledge that authority. As explained by Levi Dryden, the government of Ferelden granted the Wardens the authority to use conscription. It makes sense for him to use it on mages, city elves and human nobles since they are all subject to that government. The Dalish, however, do not obey that government. Maybe the Wardens have seperate agreement with the Dalish granting them conscription rights on the elves as well?

From my perspective, human noble is the one where he comes off as a douche. He's blackmailing your dad with your life. He also blackmails you with your mom's life, as Eleanor doesn't announce she's staying behind until after you agree to go with Duncan. Up until that point, you're under the impression that joining the Wardens is the payment he demands in exchange for saving your mom's life, and by the time you find that your mom plans to die anyway you've already made the deal. Plus there is the fact that the exit is right beside you. Why not tell Duncan to stuff it and just sneak out on your own? He claims the castle is surrounded, but you already fought through a whole pile of Howe's soldiers so you're clearly capable of fighting more. Or if you're a rogue you have stealth.

I tend to think the City Elf origin actually gives the best rationalization for why Duncan would force you to join the Wardens.

I should mentioned however that I haven't played the dwarf origins, so I can't compare those. (Don't hurt me, dwarf fans! Dwarf characters are on my to-do list.)

Thankfully, coloring this thing shouldn't be too horrible. *dooms self by saying so*

Meh, I spam this sh*t too much, lol. Ah well, it's helping the page-count?

I don't think you post too much, these are fascinating to watch. Doing this in Paint is just impressive. :happy:

It's okay, I've been cured.  Now I only take notice of sci-fi if it's cyberpunk.

Duncan never uses the Right of Conscription on the DN (although I thnk he will as the DC butI was so eager to go he didn't have to) probably because you're all alone when you find him and so he can't really force you to join. If you don't, you'll probably get yourself killed so he can't even threaten you with that as if he did tht it would probably be an easier death. No one is there to pressure you and you're doomed anyway so if you don't want to join its because you feel you deserve to die (and can say so) and thus he actually has to talk you into going, which I thought was a nice touch.

Still catching up, but these Oghren/Shale banters are wonderful.  Thanks for taking the effort to restore them, ejoslin.  Nice to see more characterization of Oghren. :)

You're welcome.  If it interests you, William Gibson, but start with Virtual Light / Idoru / All Tomorrow's Parties, not Johnny Mnemonic.

Why is it that the thread goes wild when I'm away?  :crying:

@EJ: :wub::wub::wub:
@Aro: :o Seriously amazed.  Again.
@Min: I love the banner, and I'm still snickering at where my head ended up.
@Tell: Air humping is a distinct possibility with that Warden.  That was the clueless mage who took 4 tries to get Zev in the tent.  He even managed to bungle the massage invite.  :P

Now...what's with all the Dalish hate?!  I have a clan-ful of Dalish Wardens getting ready to go all prickly on the next Dalish hater. :P

Bridge trilogy nrgh... I spent a long time hunting for those books.  Idoru gives me a titter, though, because my favorite movie is Macross PLUS.  No parallels there, no~.

I started with Gibson's Neuromancer and Count Zero, Alfred Bester wrote some proto-cyberpunk, too. Greg Bear was kinda academic, dry stuff to my memory. Simon Ings, Bruce Sterling, Rudy Rucker, Walter Jon Williams, M. John Harrison...

 Walter Jon Williams seems to have written some Star Wars stuff, too.

 Because I can't leave well enough alone, I restored four banters between Shale and Oghren.

Here's the first.  Shale is HOT!

Here's the second!  Golem memory problems!

The third.  Oghren just won't let it go.

Last one.  Stone britches!

OMG, that is brilliant! I think Oghren's got it! Image IPB

Agreed.  Oghren sees MUCH more about people than he lets on.

Edit: It's a shame these didn't make it into the vanilla game.  They give me a far better picture of both characters.

What's annoying is that its clearly a bug that kept these from firing in the game. There is no lore or any other reason for them to have been removed.

Thanks for reinstating them ejoslin! :wub:

Alright, I surrender. I'm asking the experts. I've read the wonderful Ejoslin guide, I've installed ZDF, Zevring, and ZDF, I've uninstalled everything that even may remotely mess with things. I did the breakup with Alistair post landsmeet, thinking to fall into Zev's arms, which in a sense...worked. I got that amazing Dwarf+Zev scene, I got the earring, refused the earring correctly, got the second offer...accepted it. Thats when it all go kablooey. No ring in the inventory, no kiss...I'm this close to scrapping this playthrough.

I also, have done this successfully in the past, with romancing Zev the whole game. Everything went flawlessly. I can't figure out what's going wrong this time. He's even at "love" before the second offer.

Help? Please?

Hmmmm, if you didn't get the kiss, it sounds like a problem with either ZevRing not being installed OR another mod that changes zevran_main.dlg (did you delete zevran_main.dlg from DT?) being installed.

It's the ancient treaties - call and we shall come stuff.
What annoys me about the DE origin is that you see the mirror, Duncan tells you a little bit about it but does not explain the significance, and he obviously knows that Tamlen can't be saved but doesn't say why.

It's like creating a cliff hanger at the beginning of a story, instead of at the end. The whole thing just feels ... staged... as if its setting up a teeny clue to something that will come up later. I don't mean Tamlen coming back either because that still doesn't explain what happened to him, where he went, and why he couldn't be saved at a time when the Wardens needed all the recruits they could get.
