Yeah, they were going on about how the DE/Alstair (or really any non-HN/Alistair) pairing is like Romeo and Juliet and if they didn't scare me I would have mentioned that they weren't really in love they were just stupid hormonal teenagers.
I don't think any pairing in the game is like Romeo and Juliet. It's just not a good story to compare the romances to.
Thnking about it, one of the differences between the in game romances and romance stories (books/plays/films) is that the in game ones are more straightforward. In stories, usually there are some major obstacles to love that have to be overcome, or not. Maybe that's why the Alistair romance can be seen as more romantic - because there is often an obstacle, if he becomes king. The Zevran romance doesn't have obstacles. Zevran has an internal obstacle, maybe, but he sorts it out himself, 'off camera'. The PC isn't involved.
(Not that I'm saying romances with obstacles are more romantic in real life. Quite the opposite, if anything. Just that the obstacles are necessary to make a 'romance' in fiction).
