Why should you be wrong, Jaulen. It's quite true that Zevran never had anyone who stuck firmly by his side and did everything she could to keep him alive and happy.

I hate the "no one's offered me enough gold" line, but when he says "you got me, and you're stuck with me", he looks so truly and unabashedly happy that I reloaded three times (*blush*) just to see it again.

Jaulen, I have to admit I NEVER saw that response before, so I had to find a game which had a save in that area. (I usually get, "You caught me, so now you're stuck with me. Sad, but we'll manage.") I actually like that one a lot, especially how he says, "Besides, I LIKE you." It probably is the same with the friend ending, but for some reason, mmmmmmm!

I took it as yet another Zevran line I've yet to see. It's shocking that you hadn't seen it before either, Ejoslin. So that's in the friend ending? How sweet.

I'm not sure Zevran wants to be spared.  I don't think he cares about any of the Crows present except Taliesin.  In my fic my PC offered to kill Taliesin for him but Zevran said no.  I think it would seem . . . rude or something to him to have someone else who doesn't know his friend or care about him kill Taliesin for him.  Disrespectful, as if Taliesin didn't matter.  Besides, they might screw it up and make Taliesin suffer more than necessary.  So that's why I think Zevran would want to do the job himself. 

That actually makes a lot of sence.  And that is so beautiful in such a sad sad way.  Realy powerful to think of it... from their points of view. 

I hadn't known that he insists on finishing him.  The detail in Zev's story realy is astounding.  It could be an epic movie.  Seriously.

Oh man!    He really knows how to set our hearts all aflutter.  Even with friendship, he's still so INTENCE.  A friend like that is rare indeed.


Oh, and the screencap a page back!  I couldn't read the text, but his eyes... Such mixed emotions, and not holding them back.  Man... I can't wait.  I don't care what I have to do to give Zevran a happy ending.  It will be made so!

It appears in the love ending, I have no clue about friend ending with Zevran as I've only broken up with him once just before the archdemon to see what the US card about him said.  And it may not be in the friend ending, but it sounds like it could be taken either way.  But who knows -- and I don't have the stomach for a breakup with him today to test out the friend ending!

Yeh, I tend to go with the same ending EVERY time.  I just like it too much.  He does sound so happy, which makes me go *squee*.

Hahahah, I need to say again. I have only seen the friend ending with Zevran once, and never as an alive warden. I did a breakup in an US ending just to see what his epilogue card said, and then redid the archdemon again so there is no break up on record! So if I say it sounds like something is in the friend ending, I speak from total cluelessness!

And yes, Zevran's story is so amazing. It's sad that so many people just write the character off, because even as a friend, if you actually take the time to learn about him, there is so much more there and he is so compelling. It is easier to get to know him if he's romanced, for sure, but I have trouble keeping his approval down the games I keep him friendzoned for extended periods.

It appears when you're talking to him, of course.  If you choose something OTHER than "only if you're coming with me," and then pick, "You're welcome to come with me," or whatever that is, I think the first selection, he gives the line Jaulen said.

Sappy me always picks, Only if you're coming with me.  *grin*

I like Alistair's romance just fine but Zev is definitely more nuanced and more real/adult, etc. I'm soo excited because I'm at the point where I do the landsmeet etc this weekend so all the good stuff happens I will do anoother Alistair romance session with another char at some point but I'm already contemplating another City Elf female for Zevran as my next go and then an elf mage for the one after that.

I know! I get to work in the morning and *bam!* like 4 pages of stuff, for an hour meeting and *bam* another page of stuff to read!

I love reading the fanfics. Always interesting to see other people's takes on characters. I'll probably never do a relationship-centered fanfic....I'd be too wrooried about doing something out of character to a companion. Closest I think I'll ever get was the story about the three in the bar after the US ending, mainly becuase eveything there can be pulled/inferred from conversations and the epi cards.

I think it's right, that Zev line come up in the love ending, I don't have my harddrive with so I can't tell exactly. He also makes some comment through that convo about being fond of you, and really liking you, but then with how happy he looks and cheerful he sounds at the thought of the GW bashing in Crow heads if they ever come for him, it was just great. I don't recall if it was through the convo if you are deciding to stay with the GWs or not.....I tried tons of different options, and I don't remember if the ending is he satys with you to rebuild the GWs, or he stays with his beloved....for a time (I SO do NOT like that....so open ended....stay with me for a time? Where does he go? Why does he leave? Did we have a falling out? Did the Crows finally come for him and he leaves to protect the GW? What? Tell me!!!)

Funny thing last night with the Alistair in love ending. My PC hadn't slept with him at all. So you know that Prologue save you get at the end of the game? (That's supposed to happen pre-siege at Denerim?) I turned on the Alistair romance right beofre going onto the rooftop.....went and killed the AD, got my Kudos, and decided to go through the Prologue at camp to see what levels the companions were at. Well, It loads, I'm just about to get up and walk away....and it goes right into Alistair talking to my character so I sat back down, wondering "What's he saying?" Turns out he was doing his "You drive me crazy, lets have sex" speech.......Which I thought was weird since pre-siege at Denerim he was only at care. Hmm. somehow Alistair developed precognition.


EDIT: @Raiynsong: I totally agree with you about why I like the Zevran romance better than the Alistair. It is more adult, and nuanced. I would compare romancing Zevran to IRL maybe romancing someone who has gone through a really nasty divorce/breakup and who was beat down in that relationship (you're no good, everything is your fault etc), he;s someone you have to get to know, and make open up, and let them know they ARE worth something and are special. While with Alisatir, I get the feeling more of a puppy-dog crush, or something from highschool that's pretty much bound to end when you guys hit college.

Jaulen, I can honestly say that I never read it as him leaving after a time. I've always read it as:

"She stayed in Denerim/traveled, and he stayed with her.... for a time". in that they both stay there for a time and then move on. Together. It never even occurred to me that he leaves her. Not until I saw on the boards that people interpreted it as Zevran leaving her.

It just makes no sense, you see, not to me. Why would he leave her? She is his whole world, he finally has someone who belongs to him, why leave it behind?

I would so love to take that ....'for a time' in the manner in which you describe Sabriana. Much better than he takes off without her.....because I agree, he's fallen in love, the GW belongs to him, yet gives him the freedom to make his own choices, and let's him know how much he means to the GW, so the GW becomes something more than he ever thought possible to him, and HE becomes so much more than than he thought possible (someone cares about him, he's worth something other than his prowess in bed or how fast he can kill)....why would he leave?

So much in Zevran is open to interpretation! I don't think the other companions have as many 'maybe it means this, or this, or even this!' moments.

I think the last sentence in his character blurb at the BioWare home page makes me believe that he would never leave her unless she asks him. It says:



"A target in far-off Ferelden, one that may bring him unimaginable rewards."



Why leave that behind? Unimaginable reward? It would be really strange for him to ever leave her voluntarily.

Hmmm, the awful thing about Zevran is you can often find out what he means . . . by picking the WORST choice and watching his reaction.

Zevran will have to eventually deal with the crows, especially if they don't stay with the Grey Wardens (remember, going after grey wardens is a impolitic).  But yes, they both only stay in Denerim "for a time."  And I believe that if they separate, it's only temporary.  Even Alistair gives the "for a time," endings, even if he ends up married to the HNF.  And if the Warden elects to rebuild the Grey Wardens, there is no "for a time," with Zevran. He just helps recruit and train without ever officially joining the order.

No, I don't see them splitting up, unless the Warden were to send him away, and I don't see THAT happening.

I did manage to kiss him "in public" and shock Wrynn. Alistair wasn't there that round so he didn't comment. Zev looked absolutely delighted at the PDA. Yanking Wrynn's chain is so much fun

Dialog tweaks ftw!  The deep roads is so dull without making out with Zevran on numerous occasions.  Tried to do it with him as a friend once -- I made it halfway through Caridin Cross before asking about those stares!

BUT DT really messed up some of the later scenes......and if Alisatir is in the group and interested when you kiss Zevran his whole "Yeah!" thing freaked me out. and then when Zev had his reply it just cut to a brick wall, and no kiss *sigh*

That's strange. In my game (with DT) Alistair says something like "I just move here and stare at things, over there." And Zevran answers "You should see you face when you say that." And then the kiss commences.

I have the version with no comments, but I think those bugs have been fixed anyway.
