Missa Brosca: *grins* all true, by the way...
Sereda Aeducan: *frowns* we kill darkspawn? Hmm, I'm curious. What else to they say?
Vardel Mahariel: *distasteful grimace* Do you have anything else to contribute to this conversation, shem? Or will you continue to waste my time?

I love reading character's backgrounds. Especially a unique OC like Alley.
And I'm impressed at your dedication. I never remain interested in anything for more than a few months, let alone fifteen years.
This isn't really dedication, this is me recycling the same characters and bending them into new settings. XD My interests shift a lot, but when I'm writing a fic and I need a good solid support character who can keep their cards close to their chest, I know who to pull out of my hat. Same thing if I need a friendly guy who's good at charming his way in close (Zev reminds me a lot of this one) I grab Tannusen out of my hat, Alleyana's half-brother. Genius but insane thief and artist? Akara Krinir (the main OC of the "TAF" I sometimes talk about). If a necromancer, coronor, doctor, or all three would come in handy and it's useable that she's a snob and has been known to shoot the messenger, Megan Jones is my woman.
I have a few others, like James W. Hanley who began as a cover for a canon character in disguise and then morphed into his own character later on. Serak Medina is a good "I need a cranky Admiral/Captain/Veteran/sidekick" type.
And then there's Mike.
Oh... Mike.
These characters end up in roleplay games for similar reasons. Alley and Tannu, for example, are often a set. Not only because Alley is usually the one who raised Tannu, but because their mannerisms and energies are very different. I always have to have a range of "types" I play when I RP.
@ Soignee -- I've had characters who I couldn't tote around for similar reasons, they were built into their settings. I've managed to convert some of them anyway, much to my surprise -- like James -- but there's been many who never left their original canon. It was just built too much into who they were, and the key components didn't transfer to other settings. Alley works because there's really a lot of different ways she could end up the way she is, so finding equivilents isn't impossible.
Although since she's often a supporting character who is just there to walk into the room and stir sh*t up once in a while, she doesn't always have a solid background, even privately and unspoken in my head. She just is what she is, sometimes. Readers don't normally pay her much attention anyway, which is why shoving her front-and-center has been kinda funny-weird.
I'm like, "Wait, you guys like her? REALLY?!
TAF readers meanwhile are like "Alley? Alley who? Oh, the assassin chick whose brother you blew up on-camera. Yeah, it was cool when she put her sword through Victoria's throat. And twisted it. Very gruesome. I hated Victoria! Wait, who are we talking about again? God Victoria was a b*tch. She's not coming back, is she? Mannn, liches never know when to stay dead."
And I smile and nod and am pleased anyway because Victoria was another OC (and one who doesn't convert to other fandoms). So at least she made an impression. XD Alley meanwhile did her job and moved the plot. Gruesomely. And then strode off into the shadows again.
OH HAY LOOK MORE RAMBLING FROM ME, WHAT A SURPRISE.

That's your Mahariel? Vardel? And it continues to amaze me just how non-picky certain people are in DA. Like Alistar, Zevran, Leliana, Morrigan, Isabela, Teagan, Cammen, Gheyna...the list goes on an on.
My Mahariel was a c*ck. Is a c*ck, as he's alive and off being a loner, brooding over Morrigan. He should've gone to Par Vollen with his dog to continue his bromance with Sten, is what he should've done. He'll returnt o his clan eventually and sort of be a broody loner still, but no way is he built for human company.

I had no idea what Akara looked like until the third TAF story when suddenly she wasn't narrating every single thing. I kind of had to figure out what she looked like, then, because the other narrator is detail-focused to a fault and it was just those two characters dealing with each other.Sarah1281 wrote...
I like to think of my characters as vaguely pretty and not really worry about the details. It's not like it matters anyway since their looks never really come up except in a sentence or two that explain what their hair color is, what style it is in, and their eye color.
Otherwise she'd probably still be un-desced. I didn't even have hair color/eye color/hair length or anything else figured out until then.

I really wasn't very creative when it came to what Aunn would look like. Of the default hairstyles this one looked the noblest to me and all the Aeducans seemed to have blue eyes. Then I had two different shades of blonde hair to choose from that matched her two brothers. I was going mosty for family resemblance here. The only real difference was the rest of her family had huge noses but I cannot play a character with a huge nose. It's too distracting.Aroihkin wrote...

Amusingly, while I had described her millions of times over the years, I didn't have a truly solid idea of Alley's facial structure until Dragon Age.
I knew Tannusen's, because I've drawn him a lot. But Alley was really hard to do anything with visually before with her big busted nose and such. It was hard for me to picture the whole structure. Others apparently had no such problem, which means my descs were good, but yeah.
Go go Dragon Age, haha.

Maybe it's because you're playing a guy? Random people come up to my female Wardens and talk about how pretty they are. It's kind of odd, really.Sresla wrote...
If you're implying the Wardens get hit on, I must be wearing the wrong brand of cologne. The only one who's ever come across as actually flirting (in my opinion) is Bella in Redcliffe. Kaitlyn will get all sort of fluster-y (it might be an elf thing, because there's a dialogue path with that) but outside that, I haven't noticed excessive swooning in the streets. For Alistair, maybe... bastard prince that he is.
