(Btw, can someone suggest something for friday banner? My ideas go really weird way lately.)

Charsen and I are somehow plotting CSI: Denerim City. Go with that!

it's gonna be epic. it's like 24 with jack bauer as a grey warden mixed with all the stereotypical characters from every crime drama ever.

My problem is I'm at the planning stage of drawing it, because i have massive problem with overcompiicating this (because after 2 years of art college my brain goes, human figure = seven and half heads and if it not done like this it's WRONG!), I get frustrated. Also the picture I planned lends itself to an anime drawing style which to put it bluntly, I suck at.

(About the seven and half heds thing, I'm not saying if you don't do this your doing it wrong or your work is rubbish, it's just that I know this the correct way to draw a human figure, so for it to look right to me I have to draw it this way. -.-)

Oh, I hate dubcon. Not as bad as noncon but still! Maybe it's just idealistic of me but if someone says no, they don't want to be molested by you and you do it anyway that is not a good thing! I don't care if they secretly do but are in denial. You aren't helping them and no means no! And if their 'body betrays them' and they start to physically get into it that doesn't mean that they changed their mind! I hate how so many fics have person A forcing sex on person B but it's for person B's own good because he secretly wanted it (God, that sounds like a rape defense) and then person B realizing that that was really great sex so they love person A after all.

But isn't that completely different to fantasy?

I just want to be clear about that because I think it was me who brought it up.  I wasn't asking if non-con or dub-con were OK in real life.  They obviously are not (and believe me, I've been on the receiving end of enough non-consensual sex and violence in the past).

But lots of people are turned on by the thought of non-con in various guises, and that's not wrong at all.  To me, it seems that the people writing that stuff in kmeme are writing for people who find it hot.   It's worrying that anybody would think someone who writes about it or read it thinks it's OK in real life and means it that way.

I was worried because there doesn't seem to be a clear warning system on kmeme, but I suppose the fact that it IS about kink is a warning in itself.

I have a Zev-related question..
Maybe my memory is bad, but I believe Ignacio (or maybe Zevran) tells you at some point that a Crow Master is the one accepting a contract.. Now that I think of it my memory must be bad because that would mean that Zevran is a Crow Master (he accepted the Warden contract)... Anyway, the reason why I had to think about this is that Ignacio tells you that Taliesen accepted the contract to kill Zevran, so I thought that would mean Taliesen is a Crow Master.. but after reading my story, that makes no sense. Can anyone remember/check the toolset about the contract-accepting-thing? o.o

I hope you have a better day tomorrow, Ramante.

I get confused about what happens with the Crows.  Mostly it seems as if it's not the masters who accept contracts, but the individual assassins.   Zevran bid for the contract on the Grey Warden, as you say.  He also bid for the contract on the merchant.  I think that Taliesin would accept the contract on Zevran in the same way (he volunteered for the job).

In the case of the merchant (the Rinna mission), Zevran seemed to be able to choose his own team and Taliesin and Rinna wanted to go, even though it was a difficult mission.    For the Grey Warden contract and the Zevran contract (Taliesin) there seems to be a group of people who presumably wouldn't have volunteered.   At first I thought they might be mercenaries, but Taliesin's group seem to be (lesser?) Crows.

The contract on Zevran is different, because presumably it has come from the Crows themselves.  But the other contracts would be accepted at two levels - first by the Crow master, I think, and then by the assassin.   The way Zevran tells it, the assassin bids by offering to take the smallest cut, and the Crow master would get the rest.  That threw me, because I didn't expect the assassins to have so much bargaining power.

Heh, the only art classes I ever really took were do-it-yourself classes, so I've never actually been formally taught
anything. I never ever plan things out like that, and I do consider myself fairly good at drawing the human figure (er, female at least, since it's the only thing I really draw). Just remember that everyone's body is unique, and that artistic style doesn't have to follow reality to the tee. If everyone's bodies followed the same formula it would be so boring! I'd say just relax and if it looks good to you then it looks good.

And don't force yourself to do anime style. Use your own style, however it is, and I'm sure it'll look good. It's your drawing so just have fun with it. :)

Let me hereby entrust soignee and Charsen with utterly important task to create as well an appropriately themed banner for friday, it would be awesome! (I would need to do serious research for this :/)

Let then this creative thread be named EPIC because of our undeniable epicness. Even I couldn't resist and started this ... it is big and it is on real paper (I am screwed)!

I don't think rape fantasies glorify rape at all.  I do think it's worrying that people think they do - that people who have those fantasies (or read or write about them) are saying rape is OK.   It's so far from the truth.

Then how do you explain it? Especially when it ends in the raped character realizing that they are truly in love with their rapist after all and having that be seen as a happy ending and not the result of trauma?

I know I'm going to regret writing this BUT!

Here's a circumstance where fantasy and reality would be different.  Take some light bondage.  If you have someone tied up, blindfolded, and gagged, there will normally be a safety gesture of some type (nodding three times, tapping the headboard three times, something obvious yet easy).  In a fictional work, I doubt there would be a safety gesture mentioned.  So by my definition, since the person bound would lose their ability to consent or remove consent, it would be rape.  Yet I don't think a story of this nature would be glorifying rape -- it would instead be taking a bondage fantasy a bit further.

I think the concern is when writing about rape and such in an erotic way, it desensitizes people to the horrors of actual rape victims and may make people who are inclined to behave in such a way a soothing of their conscious so to speak and make them more likely to act out the fantasies.

Edit: Whether that's a valid concern, I can't say.  I think if someone is twisted enough to rape, they're not going to need either permission or a conscious soothing to encourage them.  Most people are wired a certain way, and stories are not going to change that wiring.  Who knows, maybe reading fantasies will help prevent them from acting them out.  I honestly do not know.

Guys? Fiction is fiction. It's not my cup of tea, and I think I'd admit it at this point out of sheer stubbornness if it was, but I'm friends with several people who enjoy full out non-con (rape) in their RP and their fanfiction, and a few of them are victims and most are just normal people who have never gotten within a hundred feet of such a thing in real life.

Take a look at most of the Legacy of Kain fandom. It's pretty much canon that those characters don't ask one another for consent.

Also, dub-con (dubious consent) is sometimes used for simply unspoken consent with a cagey character, like pretty much anything with Genjo Sanzo or Raistlin Majere where they don't come out and say yes. They generally wouldn't. Sometimes it's just context, like Ej said, and someone's tied up and gagged for their first time with someone they could be written as doing "normally".

Honestly, this can of worms has been opened before, and I'm amazed all over again at how butthurt people get over fiction. There are actual rape victims who read/write dubcon/noncon because it's okay in fiction and they are personally okay with reading or writing it. That doesn't mean they think it's okay in real life, or have decided their assault was okay, or anything of the sort.

If you don't like it, I'm sorry. Don't read it. I usually don't!

No one has a damn right to look down on people as a whole for reading and writing weird sh*t. What the @#$% is with this thread sometimes? "I don't personally approve of it, and so it's wrong." Um. Well, no one is arguing that the real thing is @#$%ing wrong and should be punishible by shot-gun, but this is fanfic.

Do folks click on every porn link around here, too, or what? If it makes you feel better, pretend the characters in fanfic are just acting on freaking camera. It's not canon anyway. I'm not a fan of vore (people being eaten in the literal sense) or guro (people being gutted and killed during sex) either, but I don't think the people who write/draw/****** to it are screwed up in the head.

As long as all this crap stays in fiction, who cares?

Well, other than folks who think anything they don't personally approve of =/= bad, I guess. Or can't differentiate between what people do in art and porn and what people would do in real life. I'm friends with a guro fan (again, not myself, and I'd admit it if I was just to spite folks right now) who I used to know in real life, and I wasn't @#$%ing worried about him tying me up and pulling my guts out.

There is some really twisted sh*t out there in fiction written and read by perfectly normal, well-adjusted people who fully understand the difference between pixels/text and real life.

Has anyone actually said that they look down on people who like that? I know that I'm only saying that I don't like it and explaining why. I'm also not actually reading that kind of thing, like you suggested, but why shouldn't I be able to say that I'm not a fan when the topic comes up? It's not much of a discussion if it's just 'OMG, I heart this.' 'OMG, me too!'
