Then what's their reasoning behind making the female Exile canon and only having her travel with the male? Do they just not want you to be able to play a canon-compliant game? 

probably because of the uproar about revan being male and the fact the hand maiden is more integral to the plot than Mical is

All I know is that the Carth romance didn't play out like Revan was an immature middle schooler harassing him like the canon Bastila one does.

romancing Carth is also the only way to kill him

(ps I hate bastila and was appaled when if ound out she actually had a bloody baby since one of the characters int he new TOR MMORPG is her decendant)

as for the bastila romance... she falls in love with you even if your a complete ass hole to her...
