Psst, Sannox. I'm totally off-topic, but I thought you'd enjoy this too~

You were right!

I do have a bit of a thing for those very grown-up characters.  I think part of the reason I prefer Zevran to Alistair is just because he seems more mature.  But Greagoir in particular - there's something interesting going on there :).

There's actually a lot going on there. All of this information is just from his basic .chr file in the toolset.

He's got waaaay more stuff filled out than I expected, makes me wonder if it's like how I usually use Alley in support roles because her development-level makes her such a solid background character... or if they originally intended to do more with him, or what. Lots and lots of VO notes and even some scene-descriptions sprinkled all over the place for him, too. Very interesting stuff.

...Anyhow, will stop side-tracking now! ;) If nothing else these kmeme fills are making me examine a lot of overlooked characters a lot more closely. I kind of regret skipping that part of the Circle Tower in IO now. Although Alley and Greagoir talking would be like the Clash of the Socially Retarded. I bet Zevran would be entertained, at least.

Edit: Seriously. You can get him to make "small-talk" at one point and he sounds sooo awkward. And VO notes says that's on purpose. He has no idea how to handle it. XD

Pagetopper? Lolol. Okay, here's an amusing set!

Zevran: ...Hello~

(They would not stand still for a height-comparison at first, lol.)

There's one more instance where you can say that you love your LI (any LI), even though it's goofier than the others. When you talk to the Mad Hermit in the Brecilian Forest, his very last question to you is "have you ever been in love?", and one of the responses is "I think I'm in love right now".

And surprise-surprise, that's the only question from the Hermit that my Warden refused to answer. Mainly because her team right then consisted of Zevran, heartbroken Alistair and Wynne. It feels decidedly odd to just go trumpeting around how you love Zev, or any of your LIs. But maybe that's just me. And I don't think that Alistair would go talk to Zev about how you told him you loved him. In short, the only way Zev is going to hear anything about love from my Warden is if she tells him herself. And ultimately, it doesn't really matter if she ever says the actual words: simply showing it is just as well, I find. Especially with someone like Zev, who has terrible associations with the notion. That he even allows himself to go into that territory (or rather, stops fighting the fact that he's being drawn there) is powerful enough, so words are kinda superfluous.

@ EJ I do get the feeling that he is not sure that the warden is in love during that conversation (the response confirms that he was being 'foolish' to hope), but I suppose it's open to interpretation.  The warden has never told him anything to indicate that, so it is a guess on his part if he thinks it.    I think that he still isn't sure - when the warden does say something about their feelings, even falling short of love, he says that's enough for him.  He seems to need to know that.

I do think Zevran has been in love before (simply because - why would he want you to think he had when he hadn't?), but I think the love with the warden is very different, and yes, seems to be based on companionship, caring and respect, etc rather than passion.  I agree about him taking nothing for granted - in fact, I agree with just about everything you say there.

One thing I do see a bit differently (and again, this will be down to how people play their characters), is that asking about love after the tent doesn't seem to be a confession of love, or even pushing things.   Actually, it's funny - I remember the first time I played I was really surprised at that option coming up.  My character had gone straight to the tent with him at the first opportunity (those dwarves ...!) and I thought it meant that he wanted to talk about love (and the dialogue option was giving him the opportunity).  It seemed out of the blue, because nothing like that had been mentioned!

But it just depends on how your character wants to ask it (and where you are in the relationship - I'm glad that DT have fixed that).   He answers as if you're asking what he feels about love, rather than saying that your character is in love.   At that point, he seems to be saying 'this is who and what I am' and 'I won't ask anything of you'.   In retrsospect, though, the word is more loaded than it seems.  That will be the first time he's heard the word since Rinna said she loved him, I expect.

(Oops, failed at concise post yet again)

I don't remember that!  Now I want to play it again.  I loved the Mad Hermit's questions - the way he doesn't believe you if you give the right answers.

@ Aro, that toolset information is great. He could have been used much more in the mage origin. It does make any romance/kmeme approach interesting - he's just asking to be corrupted and will strongly resist. There's either going to be big guilt or big righteousness. In my imagination, anyway!

I don't think asking him about love is a confession of love -- I see it as the warden asking about what he thinks about it. That wasn't my point there. I was saying (badly, obviously) that he would not react well to a warden saying the words.

That was also why I quoted the conversation where the warden asks Zevran if he doesn't feel the same way and he snaps back that he doesn't want to talk about feelings. That type of talk would be out of place in the romance -- the few times the warden does broach the subject, with him, he snaps back.  But the warden still can tell other people that there is far more to the relationship.

But what he does appreciate is the companionship. It seems to be a genuine friendship and more. Things can and have to be left unsaid in a relationship with him until he's ready to finally have it spoken.

Even after he does speak of it, he cannot use the word "love." I mean, at the gates, when you tell him you love him, he says he knows. He can't say it, and it has remained unspoken for the most part, but yes, he does know.

Edit: I didn't realize you could say that at the mad hermit.  That's pretty cool.  I'll have to actually talk to the hermit my next playthrough instead of just stealing from him!

Yes and yes. But although I wanted to hate her, Princess was so perfect it was like a magical angel descending from the heavens when she appeared in my character creator, and it became the purest of love.

And here is her (so far very short) story.

@everyone--Sorry for not playing her more lately, but I play on an old laptop that overheats like a mofo and causes all sorts of graphic distortions, so trying to play very long is difficult. I'll see if I can do a little more tonight, though, since I'm feeling Princess-inspired lately.

Lol he is named Mr. Cuddlymuffinpie. And he is pink, thanks to MG.:wub::wub:

Edit: Now to actually catch up on the last two pages. :P

I love talking to the mad hermit. Aside from Wynne's 'tell me all about your past so I can tell you to forget about it and become the GW Messiah' and Alistair's 'oh, you're from Orzammar? It's not your home anymore now listen to me emote about Duncan and by the way I totally didn't listen to you when you told me you don't burn your dead even though I told you burying corpses is weird as Gorim/Rica will need to stop me from trying to cremate you after the US' he's the only person outside of Orzammar I can actually discuss my DN's issues with. When he asks about my father and I can have the line 'my father through me out of Orzammar, if you must know' that really sounds like some unresolved and tragically never addressed issues.

I don't think there's that much cross-interest in Zevran that most people would even know what to spoof.  A few of us like the Zevran romance, but it's rarely a topic.  I should have just shut my mouth.  That advice applies more often than not.

No dis intended, carry on with whatever floats your boat.  Posted Image

I also liked mad hermit dialogue. With both characters I said they were in love... because it was true :3 In latest playthrough I successfully stayed friends both with Leli and Alistair, no drama going on.

That's the problem, what to spoof. I can't find any pattern. If this is good or bad thing, I do not know.

Aw, thanks for the nice words. :) I feel like people think I'm hating on Ali sometimes, which isn't true at all.

And really, flickr's not showing it? Hmmmm I will have to look into that. I did rate it as mature content (just in case, and for future developments) but I wouldn't think it would not show up...

Arg, why do I not have the patience to read long paragraphs of text and respond thoughtfully anymore? So distracted by drawing and games and job hunting and apparently my brain has turned to mush. *sigh*

Edit: LOL at the comic! That would be a Zevran thing to do, running around handing out earrings.

No prob. I love a good spoof of humor, actually. And over there I think we fans are the most cruel to Alistair anyway (Moobistair, Drag-stair, Loghain-stair
etc) It's all for the good fun.

Alas, no, I can't see it. I've already disabled my mature filter and it didn't help, but I'm not too familiar with flickr at all. I only made an account to follow the princess stuff.

Well personally I like both Alistair and Zevran as romance options.

Alistair because he's so sweet and endearing, and Zev because beneath the swagger and flirting he has a great deal of depth to his character and by the end of the game even if he can't bring himself to say it in words it is clear that he really does love the PC.

In a way romancing Zev is more rewarding in the end than romancing Alistair, but don't get me wrong as I said I love them both! It's always a real struggle for me to decide which one to go with every time I start a new game.

I suppose the whole, "Born of a **** and bred as an assassin," dialog isn't "snapping" but he is making it very clear that this is not something he wants to discuss or think about.

Even the point of where he's confused about his feelings -- I've seen it argued both ways that he's been confused from the first time he went to the tent and also from the time he starts refusing to go to the tent.  Both are compelling.

The thing, though, is if you haven't had sex with him, there's still the relationship.  And it goes pretty much the exact same way.  So what is it then?  There's a lot going on there that is unspoken.  His feelings are just as deep, and he goes through the same conflict.  He's nicer about some things, but just as confused and conflicted.

And when he says he doesn't want to talk about his feelings, the conversation ends right there.  Now, you can start it up again, right then, but that is a romance pacing choice.  After that conversation ends, you can immediately invite him to the tent again, get another dialog, or you can tell him he's changed -- but it is a separate conversation.

As far as understanding his feelings -- I guess I just don't see these things the same.  I think he's fighting his feelings all the way, and not acknowledging them, but I also don't see him as an emotionally driven person (I know I'm wording this badly). A bit about me, though.  I'm married to a man who is from a severely abusive background and does not talk about love.  He was 29 when we got together (he's gorgeous, sweet, very very nice, smart, etc -- I'm a little biased here, though -- definitely single by choice) and talking about feelings is just not something we do. I don't need the words, and nor does he.  He shows me every day through his actions that he loves me (and I hope I do the same).  If I were to try to discuss feelings with him, he would hate it.  That doesn't mean he's cold and remote -- he's not at all.  He's a very warm, kind, caring person.  We just don't TALK about it.

So I guess I bring that experience into how I see the romance.
