There's too much talk about mods around here, so I finally caved in and bought a PC copy of DA:O. As soon as I manage to free up enough HD space, I'll cross my fingers and try to run it. If it won't run...well, at least I'll have it handy for when I have a better PC.

I ain't buyin' Awakening again though.

Beautiful song. Recommended simply if you've never heard it before.

I know this song, but I'd never properly listened to the words before.    It seems to me to be about somebody who is being told 'I love you' often enough by their lover, but wants the lover to show it rather than say it.  It's almost the opposite of the Zevran situation, where I think Zevran (and the warden, to a lesser extent, maybe) show their love, but don't say it.  

I'm unfortunately familiar with people saying 'I love you', but not showing it  (or not in a way that's good enough for demanding little me, obviously! ).  The showing it is what really matters.   In Zevran's case, I think he has good reason not to say it, and I think that what he does (and even what he says apart from that) means more.  (I'm really lucky now to be with somebody who says it and shows it all the time).

Well, I've been searching my playlists from the last few weeks, trying to find something that fits the Zevran romance, and it's difficult!    Most love songs seem to have a twist,  and the funny thing about Zevran's romance is that it's actually fairly straightforward.   There is no conflict or doubt - or the conflict that there is, is internal, for him.  The love songs that would fit might be the most cheesy ones, rather than the darker ones, funnily enough. 

Here's one from my playlist about people who have difficulty expressing what they feel:

If I loved you (short version/reprise here).  It doesn't fit well with Zevran (he's not shy, and he has a deeper reason for being wary of love), but it's sweet ...

All I'd want you to know.
If I loved you,
Words wouldn't come in an easy way

I had one which fitted very well, but it's a country song (and I know most people hate country) and isn't on youtube.

Another one about being in love and being unable to express it- I Can't Explain (although this always makes me think the singer is a teenager - it's just so teenage).  'Can't explain, I think it's love ...'

This one seems to fit best: Nothing else matters
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
and nothing else matters


I do actually have some more up to date music on my playlists, but the lyrics don't seem to fit!

Oh, those are nice songs, Sannox! I listen to weird music that most people wouldn't know, so the very few songs I've bothered comparing to the Zev romance wouldn't be very exciting. But those have nice lyrics, and they're good songs to boot.


All righty, finally finished scanning/cleaning/uploading all those darn photographs, so now I can play Princess oh wait it's 2:40 AM OH GOD. *sigh* Princess will have to come tomorrow, along with many other important things that I failed to get done today...

I have no idea who this could be. (And his facial structure was a lot easier to get right as an elf than when I tried to make him as a human on here. Go figure.)





I still need to make some tweaks to him, but it's already a lot closer than the HN attempt I tried. :3 (Also, wish I could get his hair platinum blond in-game. He's practically a brunette compared to usual. I tried white as an alternative to the dirty blond, but it just makes him look like an old man. Feh.)

Those two songs sum up pretty handily how I played it. A little less of the idea of "rescuing" Zevran than that implies (because trying to "fix" someone is never really right). I think the two of them as a dialogue talk about a story of growing affection/desire and carefully overcoming small increments of distance.

Also, on the flipside of More than Words, Enjoy the Silence.  I could quote the whole song and it'd be appropriate, but here's a snatch of reminiscent something Zevran actually says in-game:

And of course, the chorus:

What else... No One Knows by Queens of the Stone Age.  I actually associate this song with an assassin OC of mine, but he has a lot in common with Zev. ^^;

Less romantically, No One Loves Me and Neither Do I by Them Crooked Vultures.  To me, this could be Zevran in a situation where he's trying to just offer himself physically to the Warden in exchange for his life.  (And in the case of my mage, a Warden who... hmm... understands that and sort of responds in kind.)

Ugh, most of the lyrics I found online are wrong somewhere, which is sad. These are supposedly the official lyrics.

Okay, if we pull every possible kind of music I have to admit that I find Hallelujah lyrics very interesting in connection with DA story and some part are very Zevran romance like ... only with a sad ending.

I love Hallelujah.    At the moment, I have a Tim Minchin crush so have been listening to his drunks in a pub version - I do really, really like it, maybe because it has an amateur feel.  He obviously loves the song.  I also this version by K D Lang.  If I love a song, I keep listening to all the cover versions!  I didn't like the Alexandra Burke one, which I won't link to, because I didn't feel it was in the spirit of the song.   That key change!  Didn't she read the lyrics?  Anyway, I do agree that it's a bit too sad for the Zevran romance.  Most of the songs I like are!

My personal favourite is Rufus Wainwright's version. The song just works so well with his voice.

To further show my sadness, I've gotten into a habit of finding soundtracks to chapters I am working on. It's an obsessive habit that gets me into the mood to write, I'll be honest. Anyway! "Cosmic Love" by Florence + the Machine reminds me of the Deep Roads, so I'm listening to it to get into it, as well Nine Inch Nails (because Trent is super good at creepy, claustophobic music.)


Ahhh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who stares into space and my mind wanders to fandom when my music player shuffles on, lolz.

I seem to have a version on my playlist for a while, and then I'll move on to another one.   I do like Rufus and Jeff's versions, but I might have overlistened to them.  

Here's one for Alistair if you dump him.

1) Citizen Erased (Muse): This could be Zev both struggling with what he's been taught by the Crows and asking the Warden to not make him explain his feelings.

The end of the song also works well in a breakup scenario:

2) God Put a Smile upon Your Face (Coldplay): A take on the Warden's "I'm no wiser than you" response, as well as a little dig on the fact that Zev is actually more forthcoming than her/him in revealing his feelings.

3) Amsterdam (Coldplay): The actual song is probably a bit too depressing to fit Zev's personality. But these 2 lines could be about how the Warden frees him from the Crows, from his past and from his readiness to die:

Also, about how his Crow training didn't quite desensitize him; or about his reaction to Rinna's death:

I gave my mage file to MG a few days ago (he fixed some things for me), but now I got the save file back but the ring is missing (I do have the Memory Band all of a sudden, thanks MG ).
