I love the way he clears he throat before telling it.

Yeah. XD And this supports the "Zev made it up and is a lying liar who lies" theory, the VO note on this line:

Z: *Chuckles* Trust me, you'll know even less once I tell you this. (he has little confidence in his poetry skills)

His poetry skills. Not his memory, recitation skills, etc... XD

Really, he's so adorable sometimes. And full of sh*t.

That is a very good point.

Hooray! An internet! :D

About arts:

@ Kaioku, Sannox, Sami -- <3

@ Mina -- No idea what I'll do with the background yet. I might leave it white with lines, lulz. (Edit: or shades of dark reddish-brown. Depends on if I shade the darkest parts of their clothing or not. It worked well enough for an oooooold picture of mine Hearts of Stone which had a similar colorscheme to it.)

@ Creature -- That may end up being what I basically leave it as, so... XDDD Starting to think I'll just semi-shade the dark grey bits and leave the "black" bits alone. Meh. :P I spent two hours alone just trying to color T's pants, failing, resetting, trying another method...

Hhahaha Aroihkin NOICE sunglasses.

Anyways I have just resently desided to have my Dalish elf archer have a romance with Zevy. I am a HUGE Alistair fangirl and usually go with him but I desided to do something different. At first I was tempted to go back to Ali but I started to flirt with Zevy and listen to his stories and I really like him now :3

So I desided to come in this thread to ask if there is any advise u guys could give :3

@ Fangirl17 - prepare to be converted. Zev does that to you. Best advise is just to talk to him and not put him down for his past. Zev is pretty accepting of most characters as long as you don't condemn him for things he had no control over. Oh, and don't take the earring the first time he offers it - the second offer is much better :)

Hmmmm, are you on a PC or a console? If you're on a PC, you really need to mod to get rid of a few of his bugs. The ones I recommend the most, actually are:

Charsen's ZevRing
Charsen's GateKiss
Charsen's Kisses
Dialog Tweaks
From Zevran Dialog Fix, if you don't want the whole thing, if you have GateKiss installed, I'd go with the following for an elf:

zevran_main_fix which is a standalone only -- there are four files in the archive -- Dialog Tweaks compatible, DT/ZevRing compatible, ZevRing compatible, and vanilla -- you need to use the appropriate one. It's on ZDF's page as an update file.
party_banter_fix just because it's nice to have those banters back in. Latest version is up as an update on ZDF's page.
leliana -- if you're not using the ZDF addons, it's also available as a standalone at DANexus called "Leliana Your Zevran Dialog Fix". There's a link to it on ZDF's page.

Of course, I actually recommend using all of ZDF, but it's not necessary, and of course, I recommend using GateKiss's party_events.dlg/dlb and not ZDF's.

IF you're on a console or don't want to mod, there are a few things:
After completing Zevran's personal quest, just tell him you're glad he's there. If you go down another path, you may encounter a romance breaking bug (status never updates to love).
You may consider turning down the earring the first time he offers it (there are mixed feelings about this), but in the vanilla game, there is a bug if you do this. It's not gamebreaking, however. I don't think I've ever accepted the earring the first time he's offered it.
Unmodded, at the city gates, if you take him with you, keep in mind you're getting his friendship dialog, not his love dialog.  If you leave him behind, though you get his love dialog, there's a friendship answer in there which doesn't have a good response from him as a lover.

As far as tent time.... Even once his approval is maxed (it goes up +1 every time you do), ask him occasionally even if unmodded and you just get the kiss IF you're going to the tent with him in your game (I don't always, actually). Even if you never go to the tent with him, ask him after he falls in love, at least once.

I do recommend my faq, but it's VERY spoilerish.

Edit: Wow, longer than I meant it to be.  Edited for formatting.

Welcome on board! ;)

Hmm, things that haven't already been said... XD  Sometimes you can learn a lot more about Zevran through not always agreeing with him or saying what you think he wants to hear.  As long as you aren't actually mean or rude to him, approval shouldn't be much of an issue, and you can hear some really interesting things by pushing/questioning him a little.

@Tell: More amazing than your normal amazing...and that is difficult to accomplish. That was a tough one and it was beautiful.

@Fangirl17: just make sure you return to camp at least once after the encounter with Taliesen and talk to Zev repeatedly until you have no more new conversation options. All the really good stuff happens late in the game with him.

@Anyone with access to the toolset: begging again. Does anyone have the Rinna convo handy? (he's not getting out of Lothering tonight, but he's been oozing all over the rest of the timeline)

I copy/pasted the longest path through the conversation here. There are a few PC options that simply bypass a couple of Zevran's lines, I left those out so that you could see all of Zevran's dialogue.

Zevran: There is a reason I accepted this mission in Ferelden, far away from home, and it had nothing to do with any thought that I might leave the Crows. Meeting you, after all, was quite an accident. (VO: reluctant to talk about this story)
Zevran: My last mission before this one... did not end well. (VO: grim, he is not eager to discuss it but feels he has to)

PC: Is this a story or a confession? (Other possible PC responses "What happened?" and "It failed? Or something else?" here will skip Zevran's next line and move on to "You must realize...")

Zevran: I do not know. A little of both, perhaps? (VO: grim, sad)
Zevran: You must realize that until that day I was cocky and arrogant. I was the best Crow in Antiva, I believed, and I bragged of my conquests often... both as an assassin and lover. (VO: telling an unhappy story)

PC: You were more cocky and arrogant? (Other possible PC responses "And how have you changed"? and "And then what?" are available here and will skip Zevran's next line and move on to "One of the Crow masters...")

Zevran: Chuckles Indeed. I was often told I was insufferable... right before I ended up in bed with someone. Such is how it was. (VO: amused but still laced with sadness)
Zevran: One of the Crow masters grew tired of my boasting. My bid for an incredibly difficult mark was accepted, much to my surprise: A wealthy merchant with many guards and completely silent. (VO: telling an unhappy story)
Zevran: Taliesen agreed to be part of my team, as well as an elven lass named Rinna. She was... a marvel. Tough, smooth, wicked. Eyes that gleamed like justice. Everything I thought I desired. (telling an unhappy story)

PC: "Uh-oh" or "I sense a tragic ending" or "And you fell in love." (All 3 lines are options here. Your selection does not change Zevran's lines.)

Zevran: Rinna was special. I had closed off my heart, I thought, but she touched something within me. It frightened me. (VO: sad, perhaps even guilty)
Zevran: When Taliesen revealed to me that Rinna had accepted a bribe from the merchant, told him of our plan, I readily agreed that she needed to pay the price and allowed Taliesen to kill her. (VO: telling an unhappy story)
Zevran: Rinna begged me not to. On her knees, with tears in her eyes, she told me that she loved me and had not betrayed us. I laughed in her face and said that even if it were true, I didn't care. (VO: telling an unhappy story -- his heart is breaking a little bit at this point)

PC (option 1): That was utterly cruel.
Zevran: Yes. It was. (VO: sad)

PC (option 2): But that wasn't true.
Zevran: I convinced myself it was. (VO: sad)

Zevran: Taliesen cut her throat and I watched her bleed as she stared up at me. I spat on her for betraying the Crows. (VO: telling an unhappy story)
Zevran: When Taliesen and I finally assassinated the merchant we found the true source of his information. Rinna had not betrayed us after all. (VO: the end of his unhappy story -- shaking his head that he had done something so terrible to one he loved)

PC (option 1): You've said it yourself: Death happens.
Zevran: Yes. Death happens. (VO: sad, guilty)

PC (option 2): You had no way of knowing that.
Zevran: Of course not. I didn't care to know. (VO: bitter)

Zevran: I... wanted to tell the Crows what we had done, our mistake. Taliesen convinced me not to. He said it would be a foolish waste. So we reported that Rinna had died in the attempt. (VO: sad, guilty)
Zevran: We needn't have bothered. The Crows knew what we had done. The master who disliked me told me so to my face. He said the Crows knew... and they didn't care. And one day my turn would come. (VO: sad, guilty)

PC (option 1): One day it will.
Zevran: Of that I have no doubt at all. (VO: morose)

PC (option 2): Why would he do that?
Zevran: To rub it in my face, perhaps. That I was nothing. That she was nothing. (VO: sad, guilty)

PC (option 3): So you felt guilty?
Zevran: I felt empty. I felt as if I was nothing. I felt as if she had been nothing. (VO: sad, guilty)

Zevran: You once asked why I wanted to leave the Crows. In truth, what I wanted was to die. What better way than to throw myself at one of the fabled Grey Wardens? (VO: sad)
Zevran: And then... this happened. And here I am. (VO: sad, said with a shrug -- he had wanted to die but fate had a different plan)

PC (option 1): That is awful, Zevran. I'm so sorry.
Zevran: It... feels good to speak of it to someone. I swore I never would. (VO: sad but feeling better about it)

PC (option 2): Do you still want to die?
Zevran: No. What I want is to begin again. (VO: sad but feeling better about it)

PC: Why did you tell me this?

Zevran (if in romance): You have been a friend to me, and more. Far more than I deserve. (VO: sad but feeling better about it)
Zevran (if not in romance): You have been a friend to me. Far more than I deserved. (VO: sad but feeling better about it)
Zevran: Whatever it is I sought by leaving Antiva, I think I have found it. I owe you a great deal (VO: sad but warm)

(PC options "You owe me nothing", "You bet your ass you do" and "I'm glad to have you with me" are available here which skip the next exchange and jump to the end of the conversation)

PC: I think I'm getting nauseous...

Zevran: A-ha! So finally the poison has taken effect! (VO: joking)
Zevran: Laughs A joke, a joke! (VO: amused, laughing)
Zevran: Let us return to your mission, shall we? Suddenly I do not feel like standing about. (VO: shaking off his melancholy)

@ Kaioku: Congratulations!

@ Fangirl17: Yay, more Zev love! Welcome ^^

About the Zev romance, I'd recommend you to wait until he's the one to proposition your Warden, rather than asking him to the tent as soon as you get the chance. The convo you get when he does is very grin-worthy. You miss out on it if you're the one who asks him first. I also like the pacing of the romance better when he's the one doing the asking, but that's just a matter of personal preference.

Concerning the first vs second offer of the earring, I was actually a little conflicted about this when it happened: in the first convo, he's trying his best to trivialize the gift, but when you try to refuse it once, he makes it more obvious that it does matter to him that you accept it. I felt bad refusing it after that. I wouldn't be that pushy in real life (not a big fan of excessive "omg, tell me how you FEEL" drama), which is why the first refusal was a tad jarring for me: I could already tell the gift did mean something the first time. But the second offer was a lot better, it's true. Especially since you didn't have to act ungrateful. Although it felt a little awkward to be asking him to the tent after turning the earring down: made the Warden seem like an ass, especially since there was no apologizing beforehand.

About the poetry convo, I agree that there's something fishy about the fact that the poem changes depending on the gender of the Warden. It makes no sense for a female victim to be reciting the "female" version of that poem, especially when you compare it to the "male" one. Accordingly, the fishiness is more obvious with a female Warden than with a male one, keeping in line with the overall greater subtlety of the male Warden/Zev romance. You wouldn't necessarily pick up that anything is wrong with the "male" poem, since it's appropriate (if there's any way that poem *can* be appropriate) coming from a female victim to a male assassin. But you can definitely tell that something's off with the "female" one. Silly Zev Posted Image There's also the fact that he can ask you if you're likely to be seduced by poetry afterwards.

You could also put a more psychological spin on it and see it as Zev turning the tables: he's casting himself in the role of the victim and the Warden in the role of the assassin, which is fitting, considering that he's not in control of the romance (it happens in spite of his better judgment). It's also yet another throwback to his meeting with the Warden being a reversal of the Rinna situation: once again, he's the victim begging for their life, even if it's in a joking setup.

I've been thinking waaaay too much about the power dynamics of this relationship...Damn fic planning, lol.

21 hours, 30 minutes so far. Tannusen still looks like a radioactive alien but is at least starting to look better, and has actual hair now, and his face looks like Tannusen (though the shading is still borked on most of his face, so don't take that as THIS IS TANNU until it's done, lulz). The shading isn't even half-done on his skin... Zev's skin and hair will be easy, at least, with all the coloring I've done on him lately.

Also, I may adjust Tannu's skintone to be more dusky like Alley's, since it's probably not a brightly-lit room. That'll cut down on some of the HOLY **** THAT'S BRIGHT effect. I dunno, I'll see how the shading turns out before I decide.

Heh, then I hate to tell you this, but you missed the final part of the romance as well. It happens AFTER he offers the earring for the first time, and you have to invite him to the tent to open that dialog. It's where he finally declares his feelings, and if you turned down the earring the first time he offered it, perhaps proposes.

I hate you. I really really do.

Thanks all the same for telling me this. I have a save in camp just before marching to Redcliff. Was a very interesting conversation....almost comical when he get's angry and turns your offer down for entering the tent.

I didn't see him propose when I turned down the ring though, guess he doesn't.

He doesn't propose when you refuse the earring. If you refuse it the first time, he gets angry. Then, if you ask him to the tent, he refuses to go. If you talk to him again to discuss that ("You seem different"), he may offer the earring again if you respond that you have a future together. You can either accept the earring as is, or say "That sounds like a proposal". To which he'll reply something to the effect of "Not unless you wish it."

If you tell him, after asking him if it's a proposal, "That's too much," it's pretty obvious it was a proposal. The reason I say "perhaps" is there's a couple of dialogs, even a non-breakup one, that don't lead to the earring being offered for the second time.

It really doesn't matter too much, though. He still asks for a commitment for the future -- the real difference is that the earring is then offered as a token of affection (which is why it sounds like a proposal I suppose). I actually think turning it down is nicer -- it's one of the few times that you can tell Zevran that he really does mean something to you and that it's more than just casual. But a lot of people disagree with me on that.

Edit: @Aro That is VERY sexy!

Alistair: So I have a question for you, Zevran. You're here, at least in part, to get away from the Crows, right?
Zevran: That is indeed true.
Alistair: So when this is over, what do you intend to do with yourself? You can't go back to Antiva, I assume.
Zevran: What I do depends in large part upon your fellow Grey Warden. I am not a free man, as it were.
Alistair: Yes, yes, but what if you could do whatever  you wanted?
Zevran: What makes you think I intend to go anywhere?
Alistair: So you do intend to go back to the Crows?
Zevran: I said no such thing. I think I should stay where I am. Ferelden is a marvelous country.
Alistair: Why don't I believe you?
Zevran: You're not much of a patriot, are you? Well I'm not going to listen to such slander of my new home. Off with you, then.

So I had this conversation last night on my City Elf playthrough (I got a lot of unfinished playthroughs) and it really made me smile because right before that conversation my CE had a talk with Zevran about his opinion of Ferelden (and Antiva). I have not much to say about it, but his last line really made me laugh. xD

I think that part of the reason Zevran's romance gets a bad rap in some circles is because it is so incredibly easy to miss big things in it and all the really good moments happen so late in the game even though he is one of the easiest to get into bed.
