@ejoslin: hello dear! *hugs back*

I see you're playing The Witcher. Both me and my boyfriend played it (he enjoyed it much more than I did), but -- and this is where DA2 comes into play - Geralt was way too much defined as a character for me to have fun roleplaying it. I *really* hope that Hawke will be way, way, way less pre-defined than that!

That is my concern as well.  I'm hoping it works; I'm hoping I'll still be able to get as involved in the character.

@Herr Uhl, thank you; unfortunately, it doesn't seem to do that for me -- it seems to stick at half full.  Hmmmmm.  I'll look at my settings!  At least I now know how it's supposed to work!

Edit: page topper, because oh my, those eyes.

Will this be another page where half of the posts are about those eyes, Herr Uhl wondered and ate another salty ******.

In my defense, this is the first time I comment on those eyes!

And this is the second, of course! :D

But you have to admit that "those eyes" are stunning! :D

I was part of the reason on the last page. They look supernatural somehow.

@Witcher players One thing I am not seeing is hp of enemies when fighting them. Is there any way to gauge how much damage you've done (not the floating text, because that means nothing if you don't know hp). I'm hoping it's something obvious I'm missing :/

As Uhl says. It's the ring at the bottom.

Oh btw...don't bother with any signs save the Ard and Igni...seriosuly you can pretty much kill every lower level enemy with a high level Igni and at in starting chapters ( 1 and 2 mostly ) an upgrade Ard can allow you to stun/knock them down VERY easily.

For me playing the witcher at highest difficulty on my recently finished 2nd playthrough basically boiled down to this

Chapter 1/2/3 Ard -> Stun/Knockback -> Finishing blow from Geralt. Rise and repeat until finished...

Chapter 3+ Igni Spam....I recommend using points in Endurance and Inteligence.

I'm only level three and I think I'm doing it wrong!  *grin* Ok, I will be better on future levels!  Hmmmm, I have to see if there's a level indicator anywhere.

I have to admit I LOVE the journal.  Love it.

Another person who has recently started the Witcher here...took me a little while to see the rings below characters in combat as well.

And if you haven't played PST...you really must. :)

There is a circle near around that wolf pendant on your left part of the screen, move your cursor over it and it will show your current XP.

As for doing it wrong....well my very first playthrough on Hard I got to the end of Chapter one....and gave up and restarted on easy...and even then I had issues until I used a Blizzard in that fight...

My second playthrough I basically owned everything up....admittedly I DID cheat to give myself about 7 levels at the start of chapter 4, but that's only cause you can only get max level through grinding....which I did and was almost at the end of it when my PC crashed and save corrupted ( I also had almost finished the entire ****ing chapter so you can guess how pissed off I was having to restart it all ).

....If I only had a willow then I suspect Azar-Javed would have been cake....but I was a fooll.

The only game I'm playing right now is FO3..I finished the main game, but I have the GOTY edition so I still have some of the extra stuff to get through, plus I've yet to go to Oasis. Then I get to restart as a total bee-otch instead of the goody goody I'm playing this time.

I'm finding the battle system easy so far. I use that stun thing (don't have the fire one yet) and the group hitting stuff as those wild hits always seem to hit something. So I'm lighting shrines and escorting a waitress, and I'm higher level than I thought (heh, I forgot to meditate, I'm level 6).

FO3 is great. There are a few quests that are kind of fun from paradise falls for the truly evil. And dad, oh, James ... It's worth it just to hear him there. Amazing voice acting.

ejoslin: I have a challenge for you: Save Berengar. I have tried and failed many many times ( Curse you lack of Willow! )...

You know...now that I think of it. I think my analogy of comparing VA RPGs to non-VA RPGs like books and movies was a poor one. I think a better analogy would be to say that playing a VA RPG is like reading a very good book while playing a non-VA RPG is like writing one...

When I come across him, I'll try!

And I think your first analogy was more apt. When I read a good book, I put myself into it -- I get totally lost in the world. Movies always disappoint me because they fill in the blanks far differently than I do. With a totally voiced game, it IS like watching a movie. This is not necessarily a bad thing. I know a lot of people who prefer movies to books.

I'm just not one of them. I'll say it... I'm not on the edge of my seat looking forward to the HBO version of "A game of thrones". I'll look at Robert and think of the Full Monty I'm sure. LOVE the series so far and will reread it if the next installment ever comes out (damn you George RR Martin -- 5 years is TOO LONG). Gah, it would be a HORRIBLE thing that if instead of finishing the series with books, he instead wrote screenplays and to see how it all ends up, we'd have to watch an HBO series.

THAT depresses me further :/  Hahahaha, it actually wouldn't surprise me if that is what happens!  For some reason, that reminds me of the whole DA2 VO thing.

I'm looking forward to the HBO series, but you're right that I would have preferred he finish the books.  I just finished book four today!  It was such an abrupt ending and then you have this author note saying he had split the book into two and hoped to have the next book out within a year.

That was in 2006.  :(

Wouldn't it be horrible if instead of writing the remaining three books, he just worked on the HBO series and we had to find out everything, well, by watching instead of reading?

His latest promise is that the next book will be out by the end of the year.  We'll see.  That still leaves two more books to go, the man is 60 -- I don't have too much optimism of the series ever being completed.

I suppose I haven't really thought much about whether the HBO series could ruin things.  Now that you talk about it, I remember my purist rages at the LOTR movies and I'm getting nervous.   I did sort of enjoy the LOTR movies, eventually, though at certain points I was doubled over in pain.  And ultimately I feel like they've polluted the well.  I can't even remember how I used to picture Frodo or Gandalf before the movies or how I heard their voices in my head.  Very sad.  I do think the comparison to a voiced PC apt in this regard.

As for Martin not completing the series, it at least might leave some of my favorite characters alive if he doesn't.  LOL

My son's friends and gf have all left for the week, so he is playing DA again...anonther HNF (I am jokingly calling him Princess Couscous =P). I wandered past as he was talking to Lel and noticed the conversation choices he was making and said, "So you're going to romance Lel this time around?" He looked at me all confused and asked me what I was talking about. Twenty minutes later he was yelling about the freaky ninja-loving bard. =P

:lol::lol:

Well, you did try to warn him.

I was very nervous going to see LOTR for just that reason.  For Gandalf in particular, there was no room for error.  But Ian McKellen absolutely nailed Gandalf, imo, for which I shall always love him.  His first scene where he meets Frodo was wonderful.  I can't think of any major character that Jackson got wrong, which I suppose partly explains why I saw Fellowship eight times in the theatre (blush).

Edit:  Merry and Pippin were too lightweight in the movie.

The LOTR movies were amazing, for sure. But I prefer the books :)

Gah, the more I play the Witcher, the more I like it. If DA2 gives the same feeling, I could live with it, but I can't see playing this game through more than a couple of times. It would be a good game, not the epic game Origins was.

The poor waitress died (woops). I'm not reloading this stuff, though, which is why, unless the game starts getting boring or getting on my nerves, I'll replay.

Can you keep it stunned? I'm all for abusing combat ;) I lost all my orens in poker though! Hah, I had a streak of bad luck! But see, that is part of what makes it fun. Usually I hate minigames. That just made me laugh.

Makes me look forward to FO:NV more as well. Gambling!

Ooooh, thanks CZ. That sounds like my kind of cheesy ;)

I preordered FO:NV already. I know it will have bugs. I will rage and moan over them I'm sure, but yeh, I even went one step further. I preordered on Steam; I preordered for my husband from Amazon. I don't want to have to share the bandwidth during the download ;) I predict having to share my computer for a few days.

*sigh* You know, back on topic, I really love the way Zevran calls the warden, "Warden." I'll be sad if in DA2, however, there's a love interest that calls my femHawke "Hawke." Sounds too military :/ Then again, I'm still on the fence about when I'll buy it.

Heh, lame attempt at being OT. I'll quit my nerdraging now!
