They should at least get worse in combat vs when they like you. That was what I meant.

Edit: I don't like that this implies that you have to pick up all companions though.

No, my comment about all those companions actually is from that dragon art with 16 slots empty. THAT would be awful.

Edit: And Herr, they say that they get the same approval bonuses even if they don't like you.

Graphics look a tad cartoony to me. I hope it's just because they are early screenshots.

I'm glad they don't ditch you. Seriously, how sincere does, say, Wynne and Leliana's devotion to stopping the Blight look if they'll ditch you because they don't like you? It felt artificial.

I think that it is better than they never leaving you for any reason.

So they seem to have ditched the approval system completely when it comes to battle. At least it implies that they will get different bonuses from liking you than disliking you.

"They won'd necessarily leave.  They may still join you, but they're going to try to show you up, and that may influence battle in a different way," Darrah says.

It will get better. That isn't the finished product.

I think the graphics are still low res textures.  So they will most likely improve.

edited for clarity

KOTOR II did something similar with influence, where extreme loss/gain in influence would trigger certain things.  It is one of the few things I really disliked.  I much prefer the more realistic reaction of people leaving if you go too far in the wrong direction with them.

*gawps at arms and armor*

Really?  Really?

Okay.  I get that Norman mail and conical helms would get boring and all but... really?  Why must the armor be too large in pointless places, nonexistent in really useful areas, and why must the swords look to be as well-balanced as Norman Bates?

(But... I have to admit that if DAO couldn't be played on a rubber band 'puter, I'd never have played it... )

dude Dragon age Origins Weapons/Armor had the same problems...

I mean the game had daggers the size of short swords,2 handed swords where as big as you are, how the hell is female dalish armor suppossed to be practical and LOL heavy armor

edit:also I know you lot are gonna moan at me but I found the Origns Dialogue system to be...crap really,  theres something wrong if you could exhaust 90% of the characters dialogue options within 10 min AND get them to bed you within that time frame

oh and LOL approval system thats so easily manipulated with gifts

edit again: oh and Origns artwork WAS generic

I know the Origins weapons were too large, and of course the Dalish sports bras were laughable.  Didn't like those either.

Maybe I just never saw a still of a darkspawn weapon, but it just didn't jump out at me that they were as silly as those things up there.

I can accept, say, the DAO lightly armored ogre. "Grrr, me big ogre! Me no need armor!" But to give him cuisses and then put them on *sideways*? WTF?

Edit: wow, I fail at formatting tonight.

ok the new Ogre design is pretty stupid (its wearing a man bra and thong for christ sakes)  but IMO bioware has never had good Armor/clothing aesthetics design wise really

but the original ogre...didnt look that great to me...infact I preferred the Armored Ogre from awakenings) and even then...it looks like a purple warhammer ork with horns

For some of them (like Oghren and Shale who are just around for lack of anything else to do) leaving makes sense. For Zevran who fears he'll be killed if he leaves your company and who you can be forced to kill if you try to make him leave, it does not. For Leliana and Wynne who think that only GW can stop the Blight to leave because you're not living up to their ideals or they don't like you it does not make sense. Alistair won't leave no matter what you do until the Landsmeet even if he hates you completely because he has a reason to stay and so do several of the others.

...What is that armor...

I haven't even gotten past that yet. I'd much rather have stupid mage hats--at least they're lulzy.

*hugs* CZ, no groans here. I don't agree, but that's ok :D

I just hope I get the same feeling of knowing the companions. I'm hoping the reviews don't all end up saying, "Good, but disappointing."

@CZ: you're right that there were some issues with the dialogue in DA as well. Pacing isn't a bad thing. I just hate ME's dialogue wheel. And I wouldn't groan at you either. You managed to say that you disagree without implying that those who like it are all idiots.

i didnt actually bring up me's dialogue wheel because I have issue with that as well (its a damn guessing game and bioware sucks at labeling the damn options... oh and some times what you say in one renegade choice will make you look like a hypocrite in another... same with paragon choices)

Which is why I hate that d*mn thing with the heat of a thousand suns. And the speeches that go on and on that you can't exit out of because you won't know what you said otherwise. :pinched:

Gah, why do the devs think DAO is broken? I guess PC game of the year, RPG of the year, and who knows how many other awards from various sites just wasn't enough.

NERDRAGING AGAIN! Ok, I'll settle down now.

Edit: Thank you so much for posting that.  I feel kind of like it's an alternate reality.  No clue why the devs are so intent on convincing people they were wrong to love DAO so much.

Companies could care less about awards....they only care about cash. Plain and simple.

The art actually has 19 open slots. I truly do not believe they represent companions, as it seems like Awakening already showed that the developers are more intent on making fewer, more developed companions. If they are, however, then that would be a rather large problem. :pinched:

I do agree with people's sentiments that DA:O had a lot of things to improve on, it's just that I'm not sure they're going about it the best way.

I like the proposed combat changes and the fact that it's still pause-and-play, but like ejoslin said it will probably still become easy once you get used to it, so it's really minor.

I like that they're supposedly trying to make the art more interesting, but so far we've only seen barren, boring landscapes that don't make me excited one bit. I really hope they release at least concept art of some cool places soon.

I like that they're trying to address failings in the companion interactions, but I'm not sure I like the changes they've made. Some people should still leave you if they have reason to. In fact, I'd love to see companions more varied in how committed they are to your cause--some should stay no matter what, some should leave if provoked, and I'd even like to see some leave you no matter what (earlier on and with more consequences than with something like Morrigan's situation). Making every companion stay with you does nothing to avoid the system feeling gimmicky. I hope as we find out more about the "consequences" of them disliking you that maybe it will seem more thought out.

And I still absolutely hate the change to the dialogue system. I truly doubt that you can accomplish as much depth with that sort of system as you could with the old style, even if the old style was clunky.
