the 16/19 slots will probably include NPC's like Anora because I dont see them doing that many party members

No, my comment about all those companions actually is from that dragon art with 16 slots empty. THAT would be awful.

Edit: And Herr, they say that they get the same approval bonuses even if they don't like you.

The art actually has 19 open slots. I truly do not believe they represent companions, as it seems like Awakening already showed that the developers are more intent on making fewer, more developed companions. If they are, however, then that would be a rather large problem. :pinched:

I can't reference the thread, but someone asked about it in the DA2 section and one of the devs said that the silhouettes are only a part of the art, not necessarily outlines for actual companions. They went on with something along the lines of the number of companions not even being decided yet.

(But... I have to admit that if DAO couldn't be played on a rubber band 'puter, I'd never have played it... )

This.  I wouldn't be in the DA fandom if I hadn't been able to at least run it on low-graphics on my laptop.

As for the talk of DA2 itself... I'm pretty apathetic at this stage. Most I'm hoping for is some more canon context, and maybe maaaaybe a glimpse or hint of what Antiva is like since the Free Marches borders it.

I really don't have a problem with a voiced protagonist, but maybe that's because I'm used to fully voiced games. I've also never identified with a main character, be it my Warden or my Shepard. I mean, sure, my decisions are influenced by my own personality, but I still see them as separate characters, and I actually prefer them to have certain elements that I can't control. The Warden did feel like a bit too much of a blank slate to me at times: I would've preferred her/him to be voiced.

As for the LOTR comparison, that doesn't quite apply: the LOTR books existed long before the films, so people had had time to form their own idea of the characters. Hawke is a brand new character, so we haven't had time to form that kind of image. Now, if DA2 had featured the Warden AND been fully voiced, then yes, the comparison would've been appropriate.

I also agree that the art in DA:O felt too generic at times: the usual, brownish, Ye Olde Medieval feel. I'm not saying they should have neon lights and skyscrapers, but if they do manage to come up with something more unique, I'm all for that. I do also agree with the rubber-band computer though: I really won't mind it if the graphics aren't mindblowingly advanced. If they get ramped up too much from DA:O, I won't be able to play DA2 on PC.

As for the new companion approval system, I guess it depends on why your teammates are with you. Are they there because of you or because of your cause? Because, as Sarah1281 said, if they're there to accomplish a greater purpose, and Hawke is the only one who can pull it off, it shouldn't matter how much they dislike him/her: they're there to get the job done. On the other hand, if they joined the party solely based on Hawke's personality, or for lack of anything better to do, I can understand that they'd want to leave if he/she turns out to be a completely different person than what they expected.

The battle system changes I'm neutral on. It's one of the things I care least about in an RPG.

The only thing that got me interested so far is the spell customization. That sounds really, really, realy intriguing.

@ Cuddlezarro: I agree that the possibility of breezing through the romances in ten minutes was a terrible thing, and indeed ME2 has a nice way of pacing the interaction. On the other hand, though, ME2 completely removes the freedom to talk to the companions at any given time, because, aside from their initial convo e their loyalty convo, they have almost nothing to say. I'm curious to see how they will solve this issue.

I'm not interested in the modifiable spells. Been there, done that--Elder Scrolls. I love Morrowind to death, but oddly for me rarely play a character that's primarily a magic user because the spells are boring. Instead of Wail of the Banshee, Horrid Wilting, Power Word Kill, etc., you'll get small fireball, medium fireball, big fireball, ginormous fireball. Yawn. Unless they plan on making it much more flexible than that I'm not particularly interested.

If you want to talk stupid pointy armour, this is what Zevran might have been wearing as an assassin in Guild Wars ;)

I do agree with people's sentiments that DA:O had a lot of things to improve on, it's just that I'm not sure they're going about it the best way.

I like the proposed combat changes and the fact that it's still pause-and-play, but like ejoslin said it will probably still become easy once you get used to it, so it's really minor.

I like that they're supposedly trying to make the art more interesting, but so far we've only seen barren, boring landscapes that don't make me excited one bit. I really hope they release at least concept art of some cool places soon.

I like that they're trying to address failings in the companion interactions, but I'm not sure I like the changes they've made. Some people should still leave you if they have reason to. In fact, I'd love to see companions more varied in how committed they are to your cause--some should stay no matter what, some should leave if provoked, and I'd even like to see some leave you no matter what (earlier on and with more consequences than with something like Morrigan's situation). Making every companion stay with you does nothing to avoid the system feeling gimmicky. I hope as we find out more about the "consequences" of them disliking you that maybe it will seem more thought out.

And I still absolutely hate the change to the dialogue system. I truly doubt that you can accomplish as much depth with that sort of system as you could with the old style, even if the old style was clunky.

This.

I really have nothing to contribute to the discussion because I'm treating the whole thing with sarcasm.  Some of the changes they're making baffle me so thoroughly I don't know how to form a coherent argument, and they must be EA-spawned, not dev-spawned.

Well, Factions was a joke anyway, so I can excuse Assassins looking like eurometal rejects and Eles wearing miniskirts and schoolgirl outfits in Factions.  Cantha 'tis a silly place, on second thought, let's not go there.

Hah, GWZevran.

@Nilfalasiel It actually wasn't a LOTR comparison if you're commenting on the conversation Addai67 and I had. I was actually comparing it (unfairly I'm sure) to if George RR Martin decided to quite writing the Song of Ice and Fire series and instead to the rest as HBO series -- which may happen, actually, as he still has three books to go, has been promising the next book in the series "real soon" for years now and HBO is making a series based at least upon the first book.

It is a relief that the silhouette are only part of the art. I think fewer companions IS better.

My main concern about a voiced protagonist at this point is that will cut the dialog of the other companions in half most likely. Voice acting is expensive, and that was one thing that was commented on in Awakening -- they had to make cuts there, which is why there were experimenting with different styles. Plus, if i hate the protagonist's voice, bleh. That will be bad.

You rang?  Shall we set up an appointment for your impending beatdown? :P

Eh, the armor in GW was generally a status symbol anyway -- some (most?) of the more over-the-top stuff was the "omg I have so much money/farming time/awesome, check me out" armor.   On the other hand, having 10+ different armor types (more for the 6 base classes) , and a ridiculous number of ways to dye them, was a significantly more fun way to spruce up the look of your character than what we've got in DA.   (Two types of light leather armor? One type of studded leather? Really?)

(But yes, the Assassins tended to look ridiculous no matter what. ;)  Considering the setting, their Mortal Kombat/heavy metal looks were totally out of place.)

A bit more on-topic: As for GW2 DA2, I'm sitting back and waiting for more information. I'm a bit sad that we're not going to see the same type of game as Origins, but I'll hold out hope for something at least mildly engaging.  I can't say I'm too impressed with those screenshots, but it is really early ...

Never got around to guild wars, but I got a fine collection of LOLLEROUS outfits on my WoW toons. I did it for the lulz, but wore my "uniform" of srsbzns tier gear when I'm wasn't being a trollymctrollypants.

Tell you what, there's nothing like dancing in a bright fuschia pink dress with a a pair of bunny ears on a male tauren in the middle of the busiest banks. Ah, good tiems.

....Though saying that, I did leave my Fuzzy wearing pighead shoulders. So um.

Elona.  ;_;

After Palawa showed up in Nightfall, every time I saw him I would furiously click on him and run through skills screaming, "FIGHT ME, >insert long string of expletives here<."  Eventually it just got to the point where I would say, "Palawa Joko can suck my ****."  I don't think I can forgive GW's team for making me love Elona as much as I loved pre-Searing Ascalon and then crushing it pointlessly for GW2.

I don't want to join the DA2 discussion, as I have nothing to say about that at this point. I will probably buy it no matter what information occurs meantime, that much I trust Bioware, lol.

Anyway the game I am waiting for is actually Diablo III :> Local network playtime with BF ftw.

On other completely unrelated note - Tell requested this gift art and since Tara already got it, here you go Zevthread (I somewhat believe it's sfw, no?):
