It is perfect. It encompasses all his feelings before he hits the 'point of no return'.
I mean really, how can "you make this all go away, I'm down to just one thing, I'm starting to scare myself" not fit perfectly with a torn apart and confused Zevran.

It's definitely about a man who has been broken at every level.  And yes, I get your point, a lot of it could be him before they fall in love as well, when he can't believe that she would return the feelings.

I've usuallyplayed a cun/dex rogue and level up strength late in the game.

By the end they are nearly impossible to beat. Lvl 23 and my CE takes out whole mobs herself.

Trying a dex/str rogue this playthrough, and so far so good, even at a level 8 she's been able to take apart mobs. The Zevran encounter, Alistair, Leliana and Sten were dead in seconds (I forgot to tactic health potions, not that that would have helped much, I only had 4 of them, the low level ones), my PC went around and picked off everyone else 1 by 1.

Planing on my DE becoming a ranger.....seems to make sense.

Is ranger something you can pick up somewhere in the game (like duelist)? Or are you only able to by the specialization tome?

You get 'ranger' in Lothering, Jaulen. I think it's right after the 'Bandits everywhere' quest.

Yes, Ejoslin it is about a man broken at every level, but not broken beyond repair. Gawd, I like NIN, why didn't I ever make that connection?

Edited because of confusion

I'm pretty sure it gets unlocked quite early in the game without a book. I have it unlocked, and I've never bought a specialization book. How odd.

Never ever? If you unlocked it once, it'll be unlocked forever for your other characters.  :o

Just wanted to say that this discussion's been really educational!  Ranger's the one rogue spec I've never gone for... I like archery, which oddly has nothing to do with the Ranger spec in this game, but didn't think much about having another bit of cannon fodder (pet).  I have to say it never occurred to me to make Zevran a ranger. Doesn't seem his style. XD  May make more sense for my DE when I get to her, though :3

Hmm, a NiN song... will have to check it out when I get home (curse you, YouTube blocks!). :D

Lol, yes Jenovan, this I can say with certainty. I've never bought a specialization book in game, yet my 'ranger' is unlocked.

And I also never made Zevran a ranger. It doesn't fit with the way he is made in my head. Especially his remark in the forest. "I like cities, this forest is filthy". He doesn't seem to be the 'ranger' kind, in my games.

I've had no problems making my HN rogues rangers, They both had the time and space to run around Highever and pick that one up. Actually, both girls were rather free spirits, if I say so myself.

Weird about the unlock...  as far as I know, no NPC teaches Ranger, and none of the other specialties unlock automatically, do they?  Mysterious!  Posted Image
Hehehe, if my current HNF was a rogue, I could definitely see her going ranger -- she's a total tomboy. XD   Easy to imagine her romping around in the woods and fields. But no, she's a DW warrior, wheeeee! Posted Image

So it took me 3 hours to get to the end of the 'nature of the beast' quest, I made it with Leliana till the point where you meet that guardian wolf... There I turned around to walk the whole end back to get Zevran, since I wanted his comments everyone is talking about, now my question how do I trigger it? I did what I always did; talk to the lady - get Zathrian - fight Zathrian so both the wolves and the elves survive. And I get nothing from Zevran, I did get some great comments from Shale (somebody please kill somebody).

I was very happy to find the last part of the Ancient Elven Armor Set... I wanted to give it to Zevran, he couldn't wear it, str wasn't 22 yet. x.x'

Talking about songs, you should definetly read the lyrics of Alexandra Burke - Bad Boys and/or Beyonce - Poison. Especially the song poison is all about him. -> Or am I just another victim of an assassin that broke my heart down

You have to side with the werewolves -- use the persuade check.  Then confirm it.  That's when Zevran steps in.

Strange indeed. I think it got unlocked somehow in my first rogue play-through. She was an archery specialist, and mowed down everything with bow and arrow. I'm pretty sure the she was the one who got the spec unlocked in Lothering. Gah! I wish I had a save from that play-through.

However, that could also be an indication that my game is seriously bugged somewhere, and needs a re-install. Because Leliana is really weird. Despite the DT fix for her, she still falls for my PC's multiple times, even if they are very rude to her in the break-up conversations. And who could blame them for that?

But I can honestly say that I never had any of my PC's buy a spec book, yet all of my specializations are unlocked, including Ranger.

DW warrior, great. My bestest girl ever is one. That was one fun play-through. I wish I could do it over again, but of course it most likely wouldn't work out the same way. Especially because Zevran glitched into 'love' very early on.

Ranger is perfect for an archer.  One more melee fighter to keep the mob off you, and the pet sticks close to your PC so they really are a watch-wolf.  Or whatever.

As for Zevran, he is elven, and half-Dalish to boot.  Not that he had any upbringing, and the Dalish lifestyle obviously didn't suit him, but who's to say he didn't learn something while he was there.  Elven blood might mean he would pick up on something like that more quickly.  As I said upthread, I usually RP the Wardens learning this skill from Lanaya unless my PC is Dalish, but a man of the world like Zevran knows many things and has many tricks up his sleeve to survive.

When should I side with the werewolves, when Zathrian is there or not?

I tried it before I had to go to Zathrian, I didn't work, I got something like this;
Swiftrunner; 'I don't like this plan'.
Lady: 'No, Zathrian must end the curse, that's the only way.'

This never happened to me before, during previous playthroughs they were willing to attack the Dalish. Am I missing something here? (3 coercion points)

No, he is not.  It's when you're first talking to them and the lady is telling you to get Zathrian so they can convince him to break the curse.  Hmmm, possibly you need 4 points in coercion.

It's actually not surprising that it's a hard persuade check.  You're basically convincing them to destroy their only hope of breaking the curse in favor in vengeance.

I just can't bring myself to make Zevran anything but an assassin/duelist. Bard could make sense also, but I figure he's been too close to Isabela to not learn a few of her tricks (while teaching a few tricks of his own as well...), so duelist it is... Meant my CE and he both ended up being DW assassin/duelists, but ah well, they're a deadly combination regardless.

The DA Wiki doesn't list any other ways to unlock Ranger than with the manual... I've never actually heard of another way. Weird, really, you'd think after spending so much time around the Dalish there'd be a way to unlock it there...

EDIT: The Wiki does say that killing the elves requires high coercion. It doesn't say *how* high, so I wonder if it actually does require 4 ranks... That's an interesting point, ejoslin, as it is a pretty dumb decision on the werewolves' part. Actually, I felt like they could have made it a harder decision- as it is you almost always end up 'poaching' the werewolves (whether killing them or not)... Although, actually, I pretty much always side with the elves anyway, so it doesn't matter much. XD

is it wrong that at the moment finding out new reasons to hate Wynn is more of a priority than more Zevran squee?

You are right, but after all that trouble to get Zevran there it is just frustrating.
And I'm developing a huge crush on him (I really need a boyfriend) so I want his response. Tomorrow I'm going to spend some time on getting the book and his response.

I'm married and have a stupidly huge crush on him.  To the point where my husband has asked me to "quit talking about that damn elf."

Should we be surprised at this? :P

I try not to talk about Zevran too much with my boyfriend, since I know he won't like him (he says he won't kill him, but I'm 99% sure that won't be the case). He hasn't played DA yet, but he says he watched the Zev trailer and he thinks Zevran looks like a 'douchebag.' Also that he's just an Antonio Banderas ripoff and he looks boring all that... Yes, my boyfriend can be that dumb. :(

*grin* Probably not!

My husband doesn't play DA:O, though, so there's no reason for me to talk about the game at all to him.  He tried, said it reminded him of playing a movie, and went back to some FPS.

Boys are funny when it comes to games. I don't see how an FPS is less of a movie besides not having as many cutscenes... I mean, they're typically made in movie style to emulate big blasts, slo-mo headshots, heartbeats when you're in trouble, etc etc. But anyway, let's not get into that debate... =P

Is it bad that I wish Zevran were real? He's just too cute, and I seriously just want to give him a hug. (I'm not that obsessed, I swear...)

And does anyone else have this weird idea that he smells like Old Spice? No? Just me?...
