Wow! What? Is it that time again? Darnit. It's 'throw things at CZ time', and I left all my lethal shoes at home.

So, this is what happens if I go out for the evening. Heh. Thanks for the epilogues, I knew I remembered them right. I do agree with those who say that he can't really change much in regards to the Crows. They're the real power in Antiva, replacing a standing army. Not even the monarch has more power than the Crows in all aspects, political and otherwise.
Perhaps he can change a few subtle things here and there, but to make big humane changes that become public knowledge could doom him, the organization, the whole country even. But then again, the only time I did the US was to just see his reactions and his epilogue. And boy, did I reload quickly. Fastest F9 in the west, if I say so myself.

Wow, I'm so glad I found this thread. Hi!

Zevran is such a fascinating and complex character. I’m sure
this has probably all been said before, but one of the many, many things I love
about him is the fact that he is so unabashedly cheerful. Yes, there is sadness
beneath that exterior, but Zev really does try to make the most of whatever
life throws at him. Considering the horrors he’s been through, this speaks to
such an incredible inner strength that I (and my PCs) always have to admire.
And I love the fact that his views tend to be quite practical and that he will
not hesitate to tell the PC what he feels should be done.

Of course Zevran isn’t perfect. But in spite of all of his
training and his cultural upbringing, there is still so much good to be found.
He’ll never be sunshine and butterflies, but expecting him to change that
drastically would devalue his character. (And perfect paladins aren’t very
interesting anyway, lol.) As it is, I find Zevran’s path to redemption and a
new life to be beautifully written, and it is always one of the highlights of
my games.

The slide left it pretty open for interpretation ether way, realy.  I personaly think that falling completely in love only to have it imedietly and violently taken away is what destroys the good in Zevran in the romanced ending.  In the friendship scenario, it sounds like the loss isn't enough to cloud his judgement or change him.  That's how I see it.  Romanced Zevran is very swept away by these emotions he had tried to supress for so long.  Frienship Zevran is rediscovering his emotions, valuing them, but not being controlled by them.  That's what I think is diferent, and would have a big impact on how he deals with the Crows.  I can't beleive that a sane Zevran would go back to cruel ways.  Fact is the romanced Zevran sounds as though he lost it completely after losing his love.

But of course, it is vague.  I imagine there will be fantastic fanfictions in the future going in all manner of directions with this.

Actually, ES, you have a very good point there.  The friendship slide doesn't have him apart from everyone, never being close to anyone in any way.  I don't think he could change much; it just works too well.  Zevran as a friend, however, may eventually (at 91+) trust the warden almost as much as he trusts a lover (at 71+ adore of course).  But I don't think that makes a change in the slide, so you can just assume that he always had a bit of a distance there, rather than just being laid bare by the raw emotions he feels once he falls in love.

Welcome to the new people: this is a great thread to be a part of.

I frankly can't see Zevran going back to the Crows as anything other than a form of suicide--whether friended or romanced. I am presuming, here, that that card only appears after the US.

I'm having fun on my mage this time by taking characters I don't normally take to places. For example, I've never had Sten in Redcliffe or the Urn before, and his comments were few (well, he is Sten) but funny. he was much more critical there than in the Dalish area.
My goal is to be romanced by Alistair, then get dumped at the Landsmeet (she's a pretty naive girl, this particular mage, tho she did make the BM bargain with the demon--mainly because she's naive enough to think she can just use Blood Magic for good) and then have Zevran pick up the pieces. What level do I need to have Zevran hold at to have this happen ?

Hah, yes, Raiynsong, he only goes back if the warden dies. And I agree, it was suicide, much like his attempt on the Grey Warden. In fact, the three times you see him perhaps purposely trying to die in the game (though one is only implied), they're all in grand style. Death via grey warden, death via archdemon (to prevent the warden from dying), death via crows (and this one he wins).

My silly, Alistair besotted mage had turned his romance on, but didn't pursue it. He was at below the "it's him or me" talk, that's the only thing I can tell your for sure, Raiynsong.

Oh, I didn't even see the question. Yes, have it be below 71+ if he's romanced.

If I were you I'd keep it in the 50s because of all of his ninja approval raises

Edit: You know, you actually may want to keep it lower if you want to keep it below that for the Landsmeet.  Or not turn on the romance at all (just make sure he's at warm).  I'm just thinking of all the things he approves of post Taliesen . . .  off the top of my head I come up with over 20 approval points for him just being in the party making choices that I would make no matter what . . .  and there's possibly a bit more than that.

Oh my yes. He completely surprised me a couple of times, and given how often I've played, that says something. I look, and he's at a comfortable +45, my PC and her gang (including Zevran, she's never without her lucky elf, hehe) trot off to do their things. I look again, and he's at +65. Dayum!

Heh, and yeh. Rescuing the queen.

+4 freeing soris
+5 killing Vaughn (I think)
+7 killing Howe
+7 if he frees you from the fort Drakon
Hmmmm, I'm not sure if you get points for killing the slavers or not -- he's always at 100 at that point.

This thread is so awesome.

I already prefer the Zevran romance to the Alistair one (ugh.. Alistair is such a kid... Zev is so much more mature, intelligent, and complex). Reading through this thread has definitely made me appreciate the nuances of Zevran's character, though. It's also been helpful for getting the best dialogue (namely the second earring convo).

I was wondering, though, if you wait to pursue the Zev romance until your character gets dumped by Alistair after the Landsmeet, is there any new/different dialogue?

I don't think you get a bonus for killing Vaughn, only freeing Soris. Oddly enough. I don't recall a bump for killing the slavers, either, also odd since he speaks up about them unless you come in waving the righteous hammer of death right away.

I recall you get some bumps for double-crossing demons in the Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep DLCs.

No new dialogs.  There are slight differences if you haven't slept with him before the starts refusing to go to the tent just as there are slight differences if you have to choose between him and someone else and haven't been to the tent.  Disappointingly, the after dialog of the tent scene is the same if you wait until after he's declared his intentions unless you use dialog tweaks.

You would know better than I for sure.  WK, you get only if you don't have Sten, Shale, or Leliana in your party.

Hmmmm, my question for everyone here -- actually, I'm just asking for opinions. I believe, completely, that Zevran's second offer of the earring is a proposal, and the warden when asking him that, is just calling him on it. Now, I believe this for the most part because I know what happens if you tell him, "No, that's too much," after you question him about it (he's surprised, sad, asks you why the feelings you two share are not enough, calls himself a fool for hoping, and breaks up). I also believe it's a proposal, though, since at his first offering, you can ask him if it means you two are married in Antiva. Also, when you ask him, he says, "Not unless you wish it," which, given how Zevran until that time had made it wouldn't place any claims on her, I can see why he would want it to be something (s)he wanted; he already did want it.

But of course, I'm really good at reading into things that aren't there. So I'm curious about other people's opinions on this.

It's useful keeping an Ali fangirl around, isn't it?  LOL

Or Dog?  Dog gets a prominent role in confronting Sophia.

Dog doesn't interfere with Zevran's dialog there.

And Addai67, I swear, I know more about the Alistair romance than most Alistair fangirls, so of course it makes sense than you know more about Zevran and his approval than I would.  It takes someone who does not have that emotional attachment to make those hard dialog choices!

But you, I'd put more as a fangirl of both, with Alistair leanings, just like, as CZ suggested, I'm a fangirl of both with a Zevran bias.

Yeah, but dog doesn't override Zevran, he just adds to the 'conversation'.

I see it the same way, Ejoslin. It is a proposal, and he does keep his promise not to force anything on the PC. It is a gift of affection, and if she wishes it, a proposal. He loves her either way, but he does want a committed relationship. If she wishes it.
