I obviously haven't explored all the Zev angles, but the one time he had me flat out laughing out loud was because he was encouraging my mischievousness. I don't think I was romancing him at the time, but he was in my party when I was in Brecilian Camp. I slept with that elf boy and laughed when I got approval points from Zev. And then I went down this horrible route of rubbing the girl's face in it by exploring all the ways I could tell her that her boyfriend was now a MAN. So when the brokenhearted girl confronted the boy, his defense was something like, "But I did it for you!" Zev threw his head back and laughed and he said, "Now why didn't I think of that?"
Sooooo bad!!
See, that's why I read these threads. There is always something I miss, because I can't do certain things. I could never direct my PC to use Cammen. He always comes across to me as a little boy, lol.
So I usually just bring them together, which (also usually) earns me a frown from the Keeper apprentice and Sarel. They're not really mad at me, but tell me that I failed to see their 'ways and traditions' by talking Gheyna into taking vows with an apprentice.
You can bring them together even after sleeping with him. Just don't tell Gyena how good he is in bed!

Zev's an easy lover. Easy as you can get.
Nono, despite the achievement . . . Zev is easy to get into bed, but to get him to love you, that's much more difficult. But if he falls in love with you, it is the most intense love there is!

This is slightly off-topic, but if anyone is curious about what Zevran's voice actor looks like he's in the avatar trailer and the very first scene of the movie. He must be a very good voice actor because I didn't even recognize his voice. haha

Here is my experience with him: First, I am a guy player. My second character was a female elf mage. She kind of liked that bad boy thing, and totally went for Zev. As a player, I went for Zev because he was a humorous man-****, and Alistair was too sweet for my tastes. I also had him and Wynn in my party, which was hilarious; he hits on her constantly. I finally get his approval all the way up, do the bedding thing a lot, and keep on adventuring. After a while I realize that it seems to not really be progressing with him, and all of a sudden Alistair gives me a rose of his own accord. My self as a player, and my character actually fell in love with Alistair in a realistic way, reacting the way that i've seen woman in real life react when scorned by the bad boy thing, and meeting someone who actually cares for you. I loved both romaces, and together in the same game, they fed off one another and made a create story arc for my female character.
I'm assuming, then, that you didn't finish the Zevran romance. You can complete the Alistair romance early in the game, but you can't complete the Zevran one until much later. I have to admit I thought the Alistair one was better my first play through, until it went bad. Then I was able to finish the Zevran one, and I'm STILL hooked. Alistair, meh. Alistair does have prettier words, at first. But gah, after he falls in love, he's noticeably colder. Zevran, once he falls in love, melted my heart!

I don't like the looks Leliana keeps giving him. There's only room for one perfectly tanned elf with a facial tattoo in this camp.
Plus my sword is huge compared to his dagger.

Also, when I was romancing him, he said the "storm the black city" line to me during one of our dialogues, or when I clicked on him or something once, and I almost thought I must've misunderstood because it sounded so serious. Guess I didn't.
It's so neat, reading through all this. I can totally see what you're all saying about how he's falling in love the whole time. That's what I saw in that look, and reading it put into words here just sort of makes it all click. Much as I love Alistair, ya'll are making me wanna try all over again in a new game with Zev.

Also, because I'm a straight guy, I find it hard to enjoy Zevran's particular appeal. I guess it's in the genetic formula and it's only natural, the whole "bad boy" image doesn't work on me as a player outside the roleplaying envelope and I end up just wanting to lop off his head and stash his body in a pickle barrel somewhere in Denerim. I can suspend my disbelief and get into character, but only so far sometimes and in this instance it's only so far.
In conclusion, I guess I can see why others might like him. As a traveling companion he sometimes makes some funny comments, can be macho and amusing, but I just don't like cocky people so he's on my evil character's short list of who to poison next. He doesn't fit in the parties of most of my other good/neutral aligned characters so he stays at camp, brushes my mabari and cleans pots.

You know, I did romance Zevran in some saved games once, and it just felt... kind of flat to me, I guess? His approval was at 100% for a while, but I never got to the whole earring thing, which may be why I lost interest. I'll tell you this; when his assassin friend showed up, the look he gave my character when saying no, he would not be returning to the guild, really got to me--and then he fought at my side against his friend. I wasn't even romancing him at that point, was totally involved with Alistair. But man, that LOOK just made me pause. It seemed so warm and almost loving and somehow like we were sharing something very special and known only between the two of us right there in front of everyone. That was when I really started SEEING him.
Also, when I was romancing him, he said the "storm the black city" line to me during one of our dialogues, or when I clicked on him or something once, and I almost thought I must've misunderstood because it sounded so serious. Guess I didn't.

Storm the dark city happens at the gates when selecting your party -- it's slightly different whether you take him with you or leave him. And yes, it's after the encounter with Taliesen that it gets intense. That look is just the half of it.
Also, you know how Alistair gets all cold after he sleeps with you? The opposite happens with Zevran, seriously. Well, at least after he hits adore, then after he hits love, forget it. THAT'S when you get the sweet greeting (I am yours) as opposed to Alistair only up until he hits love (my command is your desire then suddenly, that my dear crap).

Zevran would probably think that's kind of hot, as long as you don't actually do it.Ryllen Laerth Kriel wrote...

I have yet to have been to the gates in a romance with him. I swear to you, I heard him say it as a scene was changing, it like, faded out so abruptly that I thought maybe I'd imagined it. Could have been a glitch, I suppose, but it startled me.
Ah, see. I never made it to that encounter when actually romancing him. I really should give that a try.
I always wondered about that! What's up with switching from "your desire is my command" to "something you need, my dear?" That's one thing I've never liked. Although the rest of our dialogue exchanges have made up for it, I do wish he'd stayed with "your desire".

So he says it if it's at 100 friendly as well, or you had turned the romance back on without realizing it (I'm not sure, I'm always at 100 love at that point). Because it's where the statement happens.
Alistair switches when he falls in love. He gets noticeably colder. That's a big part of what lost his appeal for me.

I have to assume that your assumption is also correct. I don't think I made it all the way through the Zevran plot. However, the main point of my post was that the two romances sort of "overlapped" each other and provided as close as possible to a real relationship drama as i've seen a game do before.

One thing I noticed straight off when romancing both -- or at least romancing Alistair. When Ali wants to gossip, if he's at least interested, when he asks about Zevran you can tell him you and Zev have a connection, and he has noticed it. If you're not romancing him, you don't get that option. There are a few little things like that which I find fantastic.
The thing I like about the Zevran romance is depending on how you start it, it can be pretty seedy and shallow, but as long as you talk to him and aren't a jerk, you can see it growing deeper as he begins to trust the warden more. The thing that still stands out the most to me is how Zevran, as soon as he moves out of neutral, asks about the future and whether he has a place in yours and what that place may be (and you do not have to commit one way or the other at that time, actually, but you can). It's a terrific contrast to the Alistair romance which in many ways goes the opposite direction The second thing that stands out is his complete loyalty. And later on, his protectiveness.
Gah, fangirl alert. Sorry!

It's interesting to see how "Grey Warden" and "darkspawn" are translated as well - I mean, literally translated, doesn't "Gardes de l'ombre" mean something like "Guards of the Shadow (or darkness?)" and engeances...means "mob" or "gang" - I dunno...I am not french or even Quebecois, but I would think a more literal translation would work a bit better?

That conversation kind of threw me off the first time, cause I totally wasn't expecting it.
Player: "Is this after I ravish you in celebration?"
Zevran: "Of course it is afterwards. The ravishing part is a given."
I love the amusing flirting early on
