yeah, that pretty much sums up why i don't play ff or other japanese style rpgs anymore. i was suckered into playing FFXI with my ex, and, lol...omg mithra... killmenow. There's an NPC in DA named Mithra, I avoided her like the plague. Aside from the fact that they game made my eyes bleed, I just am not a fan of the look at all.
there are actually some JRPGs that do have male characters that look like males...funilly enough the main characters are female though and of the non fanservice kind :3

*doesnt get the appeal of bishis*
They are fanservice, but for whom, guys or girls?
From reading fanfiction, a lot of female authors like to take a setting, delete the females, and then turn half the guys into tearful girls in a boy's body and slash them with the other male half of the cast. The feminized guys have to become pretty and lose height and muscle mass. (Sorry 'bout that.) So that makes them seem like female fanservice, but I'm not really getting it.

yeah, i dunno. Closest i can tolerate isn't even a jrpg but reminds me of the style somehow (Fable II). I've seen some anime that have basically 2 types of male characters. Bishi (see inuyasha... ergh) and the "grossly frightening rapist man".. there's no middle ground sometimes. And females have similar bizarre end-spectrum characterizations too, I'm sure.
Though I did enjoy Trigun & Priest mangas, so the whole genre isn't a loss, but the prevalence of bishis is just a bit
Edit: Oh yeah and Berserk, while it may have had a little bit of bishi there, it was still great.

my best friend is a hard core yaoi fangirl so I understand all that even if alot of it creeped me out (between the flat chested dickgirls and the insane amounts of Kingdom eharts yaoi...) I kind of just learned how to roll my eyes at that kind of stuff
Kingdom hearts 2 is expecially bad when it comes to Yaoi bait though (see the BAAAAAAWL RIKU!!!! scene)

look up Berserk the main character is Baralicious its made better by the fact the opening page has a clear shot of his nekkid ass
also Kenshiro from fist of the northstar

I haven't gotten past Eclipse so I don't know if there's more bishie-ness.

I like him. He's like a normal person. Just don't suddenly have him start crying all over everything for no reason or we'll have words.jenovan wrote...

::looks up at post:: hmm, needs more Zevran. I um.. somehow failed to get the Dark City comment at the gates of Denerim.Does it depend on what you say to Zev when he comes up to you during that montage thing when they all talk to you? (Not that I'm not going to go try it again, y'know, just to hear everything he has to say...
)
That's when he says it. Did you take him or leave him? If you take him, only one thing will get you that line. And yes, it's worth reloading for.
Edit: I'm telling you, always tell Zev that you're glad he's with you! You always get the best answers.

yeah I forgot about berserk. I watched that a while ago, it was actually really cool. Never heard of the fist of the northstar but I'll see about getting it over spring break.
I kinda avoided japanime & jrpgs since breaking up with my ex who was something of an otaku. His turn for movie night always ended early if i could help it.. and now come to think of it that most likely was just encouraging that crap <_<
