It's pretty scary, but the female elf gets far worse. If I have time tonight I'll try and get some screens...

Reality hits him when he falls in love. he's heir to the throne. He can't marry who he wants to. He wants to be with the warden but knows he most likely can't be. It's so understandable he gets like that. He even will offer to break it off because of this under certain circumstances (doing the sacred ashes quest early, basically, so he knows he's going to be put forth as king before he falls in love).
Yeah, and I actually feel really bad for him because of this. He really does want it to work, but for reasons outside his control he knows it probably won't. I feel especially bad because I know that making Anora queen and staying together to rebuild the Grey Wardens actually is a pretty happy ending, but it's not one that I ever want to pursue.
On the other hand, imagining Zevran with the Warden, remaining always together until that one day comes, just makes me downright happy somehow. After everything he's gone through, and everything it took to admit his feelings, it just feels like the love and joy that would be there would be unending. It's too sweet. It makes me want to do everything to make the relationship work, whereas with Alistair breaking it off really doesn't feel so bad.
Edited: because I really do know nouns from verbs...
