Alistair reminds me of high school in toto.  Kind of befuddled by the Alistair love.  I thought he was cute on my first playthrough, until about half of the way through.  Then he got annoying.

Well, we do have opinions, don't we!  I don't usually go for blondes either and in 3-4 playthroughs saw no appeal in him as a romantic partner for my characters (much as the OP suggests), but as I have seen more of the depth of the writing behind him, I do indeed find him a compelling and sexy character.  Part of it has been playing a few elves myself and the nuance you pick up with some deeper thought about and empathy with where he's come from.  Naturally, to each his own.

It has just been so plausible and natural for my character to romance him and also being able to see him through her eyes is, well, eye-opening.   (Not my avatar, that's my Cousland character- somehow our game will not upload lately so I don't have any recent portraits.)

Alright, to the Zevran groupies: I can't contain my curiosity and I still have to go through Orzammar which is such a long slog. My character is at 100 Adore, Zev has told her about Rinna, is that it for relationship stuff until after city elf alienage and Landsmeet/Taliesin? This happens with Alistair too, that at some point the new dialogue dries up and it feels like you're in limbo until you can get to the Landsmeet and things start happening again.

Yep, after that chat it goes quiet till the landsmeet.... but then that's when Zev's romance really starts to heat up.  Posted Image

I like that Zevran didn't need the PC to fix him (unlike the other two romance options).  IEven his personal quest, it was all on Zevran, and it was all his choice.  Even Leliana needed to be told whether to kill Marjolaine or not.  t's actually pretty amazing that he was unbroken enough that he could actually let himself trust someone whether as a best friend or a lover.  Maybe that more than anything shows just how strong a person he is.

Respectfully clipped...

This is exactly the appeal of Zevran to me. It reminds me of that song by Alanis Morrisett (sp?) "Not the Doctor"

I feel that Zev and I are equals in all things, whereas with Alistair, I feel like I have a tremendous responsibility for his choices.

Yes, that's it.  You have to wait for Talisen BUT . . .  He has quite a bit to say in Orzammar.  That's one thing I like about Zevran.  Though the private conversations are over until the landsmeet is called, he still has a lot to say.  And the conversations to come . . . just wowza.

I agree so much with this.  Alistair wouldn't even tell Bann Teagan that the group would save Redcliff when asked -- I lost so much respect for Ali there.  Zevran, on the other hand, is not shy about speaking for the group.  And I really get the feeling that his compassion is heartfelt when it shows (when he's begging for various groups lives), whereas I always get the feelings Alistair's is out of a sense of duty.

I do find it interesting that many people who are appalled at Zevran being an assassin don't mind Leliana being basically the same.  It's funny that she is such a goody-two-shoes BUT she will admit that she loves hunting people down and killing them and manipulating them.  Zevran does seem to have far more regrets, and had far less choice.

Just finished my third playthrough - two with zevvie, one(the first) with Alastair.  Gawd Ali is such a little brat at Landsmeet...I almost let him go, but relented at the last moment...I should have said no to Morrigan and let him die to the dragon.  It was very interesting - even though I hardened him, all he did was whine to me about NOT wanting to be king.  he never did that with my female human noble (i was mage elf this go round) gah! /palm to forehead slap.
Zev chose to stay with me and we rebuilt the Grey Wardens together...although it wasn't "he stayed with his love...for a while" - it seems that he stayed with you and the Grey Wardens for the duration...not just "a while".
I got the whole "L" word convo this time around...missed some of it the first time *sighs* oh, I am hopelessly hooked on the hunky assassin  I've already started a fourth round so I can get Zev's story in the Fade - haven't done that yet with him.

Agreed ^_^ He definitely has some good looking polygons, lol :P

Alistair isn't bad, but his hair reminds me of every jerk I hated in high school

It's the exact opposite at my school (maybe its because I live in southern california) but all the guys here are smaller and although they are not blond they have simular accents and love to proclaim themselves as experienced lovers.

I wish there was a big virgin hunk like Alistair at my school, he is whiny though which was the whole reason I picked Leliana my first playthrough and since I was an elf I knew it probably wouldn't

Second playthrough was human noble, and he may be an idiot but he's her idiot :D

I'm sure they'd love to hear all about it in an Alistair love thread.  There are a LOT of them.

It's well worth it!  I found his bit in the fade to be incredibly endearing.

Bah, Alistair. At first, I thought he was a bit cute. I am not really physically attracted to men, but his personality made me grin. Then later on... argh. I haven't romanced him since my first playthrough, but I recall how it seemed he would continuously question our relationship, like everytime I talked to him he was getting cold feet. Even up to the end, when we were pretty much a lock as King and Queen. He had to pull out the 'but we can't have baaaaaaaaabies!' thing. I also hated his smug, condescending look at times during the Landsmeet, especially his disrespect to Riordan(one of my favorite NPCs). I wanted to punt him in the face.

Ok, in Ali's speech when accepting being king, does he not look EXACTLY like Shrek?  I laughed so hard the first time I saw that.

Wow. I'm listening to all of his dialogue back to back, and he gets really intense if you break up with him after Taliesin shows up. It's so sad. :(

It's worse if you get him to break up with you.  Tell him you don't return his feelings.  Or the worst, after asking if it's a proposal, tell him, "That's too much."  Ugh.  I think actually the dialog is pretty much the same in all those instances, but wow, you really get an idea of how deep his feelings really run.

However, after doing that with the proposal, you know for sure that it really IS a proposal.

Edit: Namirsolo, your new profile picture is gorgeous.

I think  you took a wrong turn in the forums. The "I killed Zevran, and I liked it" thread is over yonder.

Played my mage through to Cullen, and was nosy about Zevran's reaction if I decide to side with the templar. Wow, is all I can say. The only thing I really hated was that my PC had absolutely no option to agree with Zevran. So I re-loaded, because there is no way that she'd not be swayed by him. What a speech! Besides, I could never kill Wynne. I like her a lot

True enough about Lelianna though. It has been mentioned that she and Zevran have a similar background as far as assassinations go. Contrary to Zevran, Lelianne actually enjoyed her job, and even says so. The Majorlaine convo gives a lot of insight into Lelianna, as do the subsequent conversations with her. Leliana even mentions their similarities in a conversation with Zevran, so to all who pounce on Zevran (who does have regrets, and many of them), and forget about Leliana (who doesn't have all that many, if any regrets), I have to say "double standard much?"

*grin* Leliana also ticked me off in Redcliff.

Lel: You will fool these people into thinking the maker protects them? DISAPPROVE! -5.  At least Sten's disapproval is based on honor, not on a faith he himself doesn't really believe in.

I'm doing a mage play through right now as well -- I haven't been to the tower yet on her.  Since she's a blood mage/spirit healer, it should be interesting there.  You have inspired me to side with Cullen -- I've never done that.  Since I'm fully expecting the templars and the mages to try to kill my character, I may not use the magic of reload.

Funny thing about Lel is she assassinates, but she also used seduction to get information, and freely admits it.  And if you romance Alistair and call her on it, she compares the looks you give Ali (your lover) as the same thing she did.  The whole Marjolaine encounter vs the Taliesin one is very interesting as well.  The PC decides whether Marjolaine lives or dies and then goes through her whole drama bit; Zevran makes that decision for himself.

So Leliana has slept with as many as Zevran has.  She also is the only companion who, if you harden her, is willing to share.  Which makes her less faithful than Zevran automatically!

Ooo, I don't think I've tried the "That's to much." line yet. I swear, even when I do a mass of reloads to hear different options, some I just hover the mouse over and it's like "I can't do it D: it's to MEAN"

Create a male character to follow Laelianus romance as romance for me was the unknown and say that they had gone the romance with Morrigan, the truth is that I love her personality, even inexperienced it's very rewarding.

I like half the game before realizing he could not stand 1 minute to Laelianus, first put up their bland dialogues on shoes and hairstyles, unbearable. After I said that was a killer and that he spent well, but now thanks to his maker, just look for his church. That difference Zevran ...

When cutting with it I had two options, or let the character or went with Zev, well I did not see anything wrong, I went with him. Surprise when asked if he likes men, their response is very good. No, not particularly like, but refuses to follow the guidelines of what anyone says and if he really loves you find attractive. There showed me that was worth much more than all the other classmates.

You should do it at least once -- at least then you will have no doubt that it really IS a proposal and not just something he's going along with.

You know, I thought about the threesome thing, and I once again think that Zevran is actually the most faithful one of the romances. He agrees, and I imagine it's because the PC wants to, and because he sees it as a one time thing, he sees it as not affecting their future and their monogamous romance. Besides, he gets to be in it, ;)

However, as soon as the threat to the relationship is invited (Alistair), Zevran bows out. I never actually tried the foursome, I read about that only. I even reloaded after the threesome. I'm so depressingly monogamous and insistent on "the one and only, has to be the one and only every time". Plus, I don't want Isabella touching him. He's MINE! :)

Yeh, with the threesome he leaves it entirely up to the PC (I also haven't tried the foursome because, well, that requires Leliana at 100 love and Zevran below 70 and his approval is too easy to raise), but I have to admit telling him, "You'll join us.  That's an order!" is funny.  I've been doing the card game lately as well though.

I believe one of the writers said that Zevran bows out because it's something that Alistair has never experienced before, and Zevran wants him to be able to enjoy it to the fullest.  Which in itself is another great contrast to the two characters.  In order to get Alistair to be willing to stick with the PC, you have to make him selfish.  Not strong, but selfish.

On the thought of selfishness, I am thinking about the gifts Ali and Zevran give the PC.  I know a lot of people think the earring is sick.  However, the rose . . . Ali saw it, picked it, and gave it to the PC.  Yes, it was Leliana's rose, but he had no way of knowing it.  He had no attachment to it, but he thought it was beautiful.  The earring meant a lot to Zevran, however.  His giving it to the PC was more than just a sweet gesture -- whether it symbolized the start of a new life, letting go of his old life, that the PC means more to him than the crows did . . . or many other possibilities, it definitely was a much more heartfelt gift.

Oh, I see. Like I said, I've never actually tried the foursome, and I thought it was then that Zevran bows out then. The threesome was with Isabella, my PC, and Zevran. It never even occured to me to make any 'Alistair' choice. I read about it, and probably misunderstood.

That's a great way to look at the gifts. Even in my first play-through with my poor misguided mage, she thought it odd that he'd give her a flower he picked along the way. The rose was by no means meant as a commitment, just a compliment. The earring however, was. Even though Zevran danced around the issue the first time he offers it. Love the slip of the tongue "It means a lot to me but so have... has what you've done for me". It's not verbatim, but close enough.
