Yeah I miss my mage, he's like my ME1/2 engineer imo. He is such an obnoxious Chantry-lover and sickeningly kind soul. Very lawful good. Now, Ezik distrusts humans (killed the intruders in the intro & has been suspicious of them since). Not sure if I completely like his face yet, but it's interesting having everyone neutral/dislike him ...except Morrigan. He hasn't even really been particularly "bad" - he's just terse and doesn't care for humans or the chantry. Sten should give +points for NOT bothering to him, imo.

Dunno if I will get his angry speech this go-round, but that is pretty hot. He already yelled at Ezik for letting Isolde die. Which is justified, Ezik thought she deserved it for being ashamed of her boy for something he can't help (magic). Draw from that what you will..

Cuddlezarro wrote...well the dirty pervert in me decided to take some more screenshots Ill have them uploaded soon :3

Those are hilarious screenshots, Zev wielding all 3 of his daggers and Alistair working on his shield pummel... mm hm. Everyone needs to let the dirty pervert out for a walk, otherwise it messes the carpet.

Addai67 wrote...So can a non-mage wear them? I'm not sure why they'd want to. Even as a mage I'm always trying to escape mage robes.

You know the mage robes on a human male can be hot. The advanced tevinter robe has a stylish crevat and armbands. Muscled gentleman.

Addai67 wrote...Somehow I'm not able to make it work, DA Modder tells me there is no information in the override file, but this is no doubt because I haven't the first clue what I'm doing.

Hmmm odd. I'm pretty swamped this week but I am planning to write up a tutorial for the mod managers over break next week. I wonder if this may be a path problem in the manager? I can upload the compiled script and you can make an override of it using DA Mod Manager, so then it might recognize it easily.

Nonvita wrote...Oh, sounds great! Awesome work, Charsen, and thanks so much for doing that for all of us! You said though that the cutscene still shows up after the first main quest is complete? I'm going to be selfish and say it would be awesome if there were a way to fix that.  But really, you spoil us!

i loved making the mod! It's the dazip creation that kills me. You wouldn't believe how cumbersome it is, I have no idea why they think it's necessary when override is so much more clean and simple.  I do plan on fixing the dazip later tonight though.

I also plan on fixing the cutscenes - but not this week, also I will be adjusting the codex entries to appear when you pick him up. I just wanted to do a proof of concept first, see if i could actually change the way the map picks its encounters. I have to figure out if I want to literally cut the part of the loghain/howe scene where Zevran is introduced and move it to the previous scene, or if I could just move the entire scene to the zevran encounter (much easier but it might look weird directly after the previous loghain sequence with teagan.) any thoughts?

Sabriana wrote...University isn't that bad, Sadi. It can be quite fun, actually. Just don't do what I did and pick all the toughest subject courses in one bloody semester :)

^^^ This

But it's worth it.

Sign up for extra classes & cull the ones that are too much of a PITA. Though tbh i wonder if my grad degree even matters for my field. theory is somewhat purposeless if i don't plan to teach, imo.

Somehow your brain during class registration week always has a ridiculous amount of faith in your abilities.

Which is flattering, Registration Brain, but my Midterm Brain wants to murder you, and my Finals Brain is in the shower, rocking back and forth. Happy now?

I haven't had anything this week except canned fruit & ramen, tea & blue moon. But being starved makes me play with the toolset, so I guess that's good.

Cuddlezarro wrote...any ways here are some zev pics

i can't wait for the dalish area. I am really hoping that my dalish will have some interesting things to say to Zev. Anyway, i have to study for my exam in 9 hours. It's a computer theory course where the prof refers to us as elves (Keebler kind, always work work work, he says - he's a weird prof).. but when he says "Good luck, elves," I am hoping for a Zev morale boost.

Arundor wrote...I've been following this thread for a little while, so I thought maybe I should finally say hello instead of being a stalker.  So, um, hi.

welcome to the thread Arundor! i admit that Zev's facade almost drove my goodly mage away from him, but he looked at Zev as a project that he could fix, not knowing he was a LI at the time. It's a huge change in Zev's personality from the beginning to end as his business mask finally is removed. I have not romanced another character to compare yet, though.

Ok, back to studying for me.

Hi Arundor, welcome. Yes, Zevran is the most difficult romance character to really 'unravel', the only easy thing about him is sex. Heck, it's a fun diversion, a nice pleasure, and why not, his body never belonged to him anyway.

However, when it come to his psyche, we're on a whole different planet now. Alistair, Leliana and Morrigan don't even begin to tally up to Zevran, simply because the path from "Here I am" to "I am yours" is long and tortuous.

Those who revel in "I love you's", and serenades in the moonlight kind of romances will not like this one, at least not until they realize that Zevran can't say "I love you" outright because he simply cannot identify the emotion, he's never felt it. His facial expression, vocal inflections, and sometimes the body-language say so much more to us Zevranites.

Heck, the most romantic thing ever for my PC was listening to the trained seducer stumbling over words, and being as awkward as a teenager when trying to talk to her about certain things.

@ Charsen

You have my support. True enough, taking 'Advanced Research Methods", "Advanced Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences, and topping it off with "The Biological Basis of Pschology" was the toughest thing I've ever done. If not for my friends forcing me to at least go outside the study-hall/library/lab, I'd most likely have ended up in the shower rocking back and forth, sobbing uncontrollably, and tearing out my hair.

I have come late to the game and this thread, but I hope it's OK to add yet another opinion on Zevran's romantic appeal.  It's only my second playthrough.   In my first playthrough, I set out to romance Alistair and ended up with Zevran.   The second time (as a male PC) I romanced Leliana, but ended up with Zev again.  He seems to me to the most romantically appealing of all the romanceable characters, for the following reasons:

1. He doesn't ask for anything from the PC.  Nothing at all.  The other characters all have some personal quest that they want you to help them with.  Zevran never asks you to do anything.  There is a personal quest, in a sense, but he deals with it on his own.   He will do anything you ask to help with your quest, but he will never expect you to do anything in return.

2. He doesn't need gifts.  There's something a bit creepy about having to give characters gifts to boost their approval, to get them into bed, or make them like/love you.   You can ignore that whole issue with him, if you want.   He doesn't expect or need anything.  On my first playthrough, my PC still had all his gifts in her inventory after the encounter with Taliesin.

3. I think he is the only character whose approval always goes up just from coming to your tent.   All he wants is your time and your loving.

4. On my first playthrough, I was a female dwarf commoner, with a no-nonsense attitude to sex, trying to romance Alistair.  Bad move.   I really thought that after going through ordeals together, with death hanging over us, that we'd be able to offer each other come comfort in the tent at night.  I was very taken aback to see that his approval went down whenever I asked him to my tent.   Meanwhile, Zevran sweetly makes sure you know he's available, should you want some relief from the stress of battle.   With him, it's all about what you want.

5. He notices when you're finding it hard, and tries to cheer you up with bad poetry.   The point is that he notices, and he cares and he tries to make you feel better.  Instead of asking you to find his sister or whatever.   Yet again, it's all about you.

6. Although he might come across as arrogant to some, his stories are very self-deprecating.   He gets taken in by a mark, and only gets away with because she dies accidently.   He's robbed by children.  He happily admits to failure and is the first to laugh at himself.  He doesn't make excuses.  When he tells the terrible story of his last mission, I find it very moving.

7. It's implied that he would be great in bed.  He's certainly experienced and open to ... adventure and experimentation.  His awareness of the PC's needs would play out very well in the tent, I think.   He's the kind of guy who will happily fulfil your deepest, darkest fantasy.

8. I know people object to agreeing with him about killing people.  But I think he's the only character who actually admits to enjoying the act of killing.   All the rest do seem to enjoy it but pretend they don't.  My PCs, like it or not, would not have been happy to take a back seat during the killing, so I imagine they enjoy that moment too.

9.  He's funny and clever.  I loved having him in my party to hear his conversations.  On my second playthrough, I actually started taking his advice, with interesting consequences.  He sometimes sees an angle that the rest of the party miss.

10.  He's not jealous or possessive.

11. He's not afraid to speak his mind.   I just love when he speaks out to some of the NPCs you meet.   It doesn't matter if you disagree with him either, because his approval will always rise back up (!) in the tent later.

12.  He's completely honest.   There's no holding back of information (like Alistair).

13. I do think he's physically appealing.    I didn't when I first saw the character, and I thought his 'Latin Lover' accent silly.  But he grew on me.   There are scenes where he looks quite beautiful, and the accent becomes sexy and seductive.

14. His default tactics are set to make him attack anything that attacks the PC, and I found that endearing.   I loved to see him come running across a room to defend my PC.  He dies quite easily early on, but later in the game he's ridiculously awesome.

I'll stop listing points because I'd go on for ever!  He's all give, give, give without asking anything in return.  He's strong, protective and decisive, but sweetly vulnerable.  He's the perfect boyfriend.  I am going to find it very hard to do a playthrough where I don't romance him.

I've been following this thread for a little while, so I thought maybe I should finally say hello instead of being a stalker.  So, um, hi.

For my first few playthroughs I stayed away from Zevran due to a "but he's evil!" preconception.  By disapproving of his cavalier attitude towards killing, I never got his approval rating high enough to see his other side. This thread convinced me to give it another try.

I think the romance conversations are nicely written, and his jokes and jovial attitude frequently make me smile.  I'm also enjoying the subtext with his character.  As someone who is guarded and sometimes confused about his own feelings, paying attention to his facial expressions and tone of voice adds a whole new level to the interaction.  It's something I didn't see as frequently in the Leliana and Alistair romances, and it's enjoyable to see that much depth in a character.

My city elf who is romancing him currently has him at +96 Adore and is in the process of finishing the last treaty quest.  So I imagine I'll be getting to the Taliesin encounter pretty soon so the romance can move to the next stage.  Looking forward to it.

Anyway, that's my small contribution to this impressively long dissertation that is the Zevran fan thread.

Welcome Arundor,

The best is yet to come . . .

Edit: Gah, I should catch up before I post.  Welcome Sannox!  I've also tried romancing Ali and Lel and, nod nod, end up with Zevran.  And I agree with all of your reasons why.  He's amazing.

a lot of really good stuff that bears reading several times.

We here don't really mind having Zevran's praises sung, Sannox.

Hello and welcome. What you list are very good points, and I agree with everything you posted. As for him being a 'cold-blooded, unrepentive' assassin - those who claim that never bothered to look further. The reverse would be: Like looking at a pretty package, and claiming it good without even bothering to unwrap it - it's a shallow view, that package could be full of smelly crap.

He gives approval for saving children, groups, and even pleads for their lives in a very moving way. His fade experience was very moving and very telling. Here is my most lethal and fearless figher, cringing and cowering in terror - he is so terrified that he can't even help my PC, when she faces the torturers. That almost brought tears to my eyes the first time around.

In my very first play-through (totally unspoiled) I didn't let my PC execute him because of the first words out of his mouth "I rather thought I wake up dead, or not wake up at all. Yet it seems I still live." It gave me pause enought to consider the implications of that. He was sure he would die? Why? Of course, that is all explained later, but it made it possible for me to add him to my PCs group.

That silly mage was infatuated with Alistair, and ignored all the writings on the wall. She did turn on Zevran's romance, but didn't go far enough to force a choice. When she was devastated at having her love, loyalty, and devotion thrown back into her face publicly, Zevran was there for her. And the rest, as they say, was history. He is now the only romance my PCs will ever complete. And no ultimate sacrifice either. Never. I don't even want to watch it again.

Sannox, after reading your fabulous post thoroughly (twice LOL, I love it), I wanted to say, the best reason to not just go along with everything Zevran says is you get fabulous answers when you don't. I don't go for hurtful or mean responses, but some of the more neutral ones give really unexpected answers. And even that way, I often find my approval going up too fast. I like him refusing to talk about his final mission, and if I'm not careful, by the time I get to asking him about it, he's already too high and willing to talk.

With him, you don't have to worry about approval through dialog -- if you're decent to him, it goes up, even if you disagree with him. And even if you are an ass to him, like you mention, he keeps approving of going to the tent. But he will give up to +23 approval for going to the tent for the first time if you ask him! +23!  *grin*  I normally wait for him to do the asking because of that.

Edit: Yes I did, and my former got posted!  But yes yes yes!

Well, that sort of tallies with the approval he gets from my PCs

Wonderful points Sannox. I love that he asks for nothing and expects nothing.. he is so truly shocked that you think of him at all. I suppose it makes sense, considering how they meet - his life is at the whim of the Warden, reinforcing how expendable he is and always has been. When the Warden shows any interest in Zevran's past, his heart is stilled by the idea that someone actually cares.

Very nice, very nice indeed. =3

So everyone here was saying I could ask things about the mods, so here it comes. :P
I want to install the zevranasap mod, but I can't get my other mod to work, so first I want that one to work:
- I installed a 'more hairstyles' mod and it works
- I wanted the circles be gone mod, so I wanted to do what the instruction says (place in override folder), the thing is; my 'more hairstyles' mod is in that folder, so I'm kinda stuck. Do i need to remove the 'more hairstyles' mod or am I simply doing something wrong.
- Help? Image IPB
- And once this works, do I get the same trouble with the zevranasap mod?

I really have no idea what I'm doing.

Quick question for you all.

What do you consider Zevran's relationship milestones, the actual dialogue in the game nonwithstanding (so it can even be the stuff that you sort of fill in, in your head, as you go along).

For me (obviously the order you do stuff in effects this), it goes something like this (and some of these are probably out of order):

1. Sparing his life
2. Him seeing how you deal with others (either via treaties or something else - for me it was Warden's Keep and Honnleath)
3. First time you take his advice (Bhelen vs. Harrowmont)
4. First gift you give him (doesn't need to be a GIFT gift, Rose's Thorn and Felon's Coat for me)
5. First time you choose him as your "partner" in anything (The Proving)
6. When the romance actually initiates (you express interest in it or don't put him off)
7. The first GIFT gift
8. The bad Wynne talk
9. The first tent
10. The Fade
11. The Gauntlet
12. The first "ex" talk (Rinna)
13. Taliesin & the earring
14. The good Wynne talk
15. Being refused tent
16. The second earring offering (if you didn't take it the first time)
17. Morrigan's ritual
18. At the gates of Denerim
19. Epilogue

Are there any that I might be forgetting or ones you guys consider milestones that I don't list? Oh, I know one I forgot but that's never played a part in my games (choosing him over another companion - sorry, Zev4life)

i promise, after this exam i will make a tutorial on installing mods!
in the meantime - there are 2 ways to mod.

- use a mod manager to build your own overrides, this is the best way because you can uninstall them with 1 click and no hassle, instant checking for compatibilty

- the other way is with the override folder itself. if you have a bunch of raw files then you can just dump them into your override folder. subfolders don't matter but they can mask a conflict! not good! if they ask you to overwrite something then you have a conflict too. I really don't recommend this way though, it's far too messy and not in a good way

- I'm putting the raw zevranasap script on the group now, you can use it to dump in your override folder or make an override as you like

Dunno if that helps at all but i'll try to be more thorough with the details later today =)

*goes back to studying*

@Srsela, I consider him championing at the landsmeet, if not a milestone, things coming full circle.

Edit: Though I don't know, maybe most people don't consider naming him a champion.  He always is my warden's champion; it just seems fitting.  He sent Zevran after my warden, so I return the favor.

I find the talk about his mother very important, Sresla. It does tie in with THE gift, but I think he actually shows emotions, especially when talking about the mother, her death, and the glove. I think it poignant that Zevran allows his emotions to be see by the PC.

Ohh, I just saw the drawing. How sweet, how very, very sweet, Minaleth. Thank you so much for sharing.
