I like Zev. It's satisfying to me, to gain strong loyalty and the love of a character who kills for a living and knows little of compassion whether given or received. I like Sten for the similar reasons, but of course he isn't a romance option.

As for Zevran, I find him the least cumbersome as far as relationships go. Maintaining approval isn't too difficult. If you cheat on him, it's almost sad the way he expects to be dumped. And if you dump him gently, you don't lose much approval. He actually appreciates kindness. When you're running around doing things, he'll hardly ever disagree with what you do. In fact, I can only think of a single (possibly two) instance(s) at which Zev disapproved of my actions. All of the other party members get mad if you don't do what you want them to ('cept maybe Og), but Zev trusts (or at least simply obeys with indifference) your decisions as a leader. And when he does speak up he has some good advice or a good joke, not just crap pertaining to his personal bias.

Hmmm, I can think of quite a few things Zevran will disapprove of if you don't use the persuade check. Killing the dalish, siding with Cullen, destroying the anvil, initially siding with Harrowmont, letting Vaughn go, siding with the slavers (I don't count RtO because it doesn't make sense, but there's that disapproval there as well). There's probably more than that -- but he always makes a good argument as to WHY you should do what he suggests (except RtO).

And yes, Zevran gives good advice. I normally (though not always) follow it. But at what stage of the relationship do you get a small approval loss? It must be fairly early. When you just break up with him later, unless breaking up with him for someone else, you don't get an option to even explain why. He just says he understands, boom anywhere between -18 and -46, depending on exactly where it is in the relationship. He is incredibly sweet if you break up with him to become queen/king, though. Ugh, I hate Zevran breakups, so I haven't looked into them THAT much, though I think I've seen every one of them (save, reload -- my theme). He's so sweet during a breakup, I end up feeling horrible. Last one I did, I was in a horrible mood for HOURS. Silly for me to react that way.

*grin* I love Oghren and Sten. This game I'm doing an Oghren game (thanks to Charsen's "ZevranASAP" mod I did Orzammar first). He's fantastic!

Edit: Gah, I sound like I'm arguing, and I'm NOT.  *grin* I love discussing this stuff.  See, I think Alistair is easy to break up with once he falls in love, but this time around, romancing him, I went to him when forced to make a choice.  There are two opportunities to tell him that your Warden is in love with Zevran.  That surprised me -- I choose one, and got a -15 approval drop from Ali, which is pretty major compared to the approval gain I'm used to getting from him.

You know the mage robes on a human male can be hot. The advanced tevinter robe has a stylish crevat and armbands. Muscled gentleman.

I suppose since I like how the Chasind robe looks on him, a Tevinter robe would be ok.  I'll have to try it.  I think I just have an allergy to mage robes from playing a female PC.  You can either look like a Chantry priestess or a ****, and not much in between.

The dazip doesn't work for everyone, so i am going to completely redo it after my exam today.

I recommend waiting for the new dazip or placing the ncs file in your Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/packages/core/override/ folder (though this is a last resort, mod managers are far cleaner)

I will also do a mod tutorial to explain how to use the mod managers and such, so hopefully that will help

What do you consider Zevran's relationship milestones, the actual dialogue in the game nonwithstanding (so it can even be the stuff that you sort of fill in, in your head, as you go along).

For me (obviously the order you do stuff in effects this), it goes something like this (and some of these are probably out of order):

2. Him seeing how you deal with others (either via treaties or something else - for me it was Warden's Keep and Honnleath)
3. First time you take his advice (Bhelen vs. Harrowmont)
4. First gift you give him (doesn't need to be a GIFT gift, Rose's Thorn and Felon's Coat for me)
5. First time you choose him as your "partner" in anything (The Proving)
6. When the romance actually initiates (you express interest in it or don't put him off)
7. The first GIFT gift
8. The bad Wynne talk
9. The first tent
10. The Fade
11. The Gauntlet
12. The first "ex" talk (Rinna)
13. Taliesin & the earring
14. The good Wynne talk
15. Being refused tent
16. The second earring offering (if you didn't take it the first time)
17. Morrigan's ritual
18. At the gates of Denerim
19. Epilogue

Are there any that I might be forgetting or ones you guys consider milestones that I don't list? Oh, I know one I forgot but that's never played a part in my games (choosing him over another companion - sorry, Zev4life)

I love the poem.  The first time I did it I thought "wha?"  However understanding Zevran as a person who has been steeped in sex and seduction but who never actually had to woo someone for himself, how awkward it makes him, makes that encounter so touching.  Plus the fact that he is trying to do something good for your character- to cheer you up.  I have often gotten that either after an Alistair breakup or after the alienage, when my character was certainly moping.

@Charsen, thanks. I will look into the DAModder (I have a problem with this name modder=dirt in Dutch) because right now my mage is in Lothering. If it doesn't work, I'll wait.

And hello to all the posters new to the thread....love the points in your post Sannox. Great summay! I especially like youre point about the gifts. Sten is also the only other one I can get to 100% without gifts. Heck, I played as a MCE, and I couldn't get Alistair above 40 without heavy gift application.



Didn't play too much DA:O this weekend.

My FDE had the Tamlen in camp encounter finally. And OMG.....heartwrenching! Especially if you have a female and play it as if she was interested in him. I was so flummoxed by the event that afterwards I accidentally clicked on Zevran (100% adore, no gifts) and my PC broke up with him!!!!! I was like, what did you/me just do?!?!?!?

Ah! Thank goodnesss for a quicksave and reloading.



But unfortunately now, she realizes what a jerk she's been to Alistair regarding Duncan and how much loss he's feeling. kind of hard to be pissy at a shem like Alistair when you yourself are reeling from such an emotional encounter. Esepcially with how "Oh well" Alisatir was afterwards.

I missed this earlier (gah, MORE coffee, I swear) so I'm cheating and piggybacking nonvita's post.  I don't think it would look weird directly after the Teagan scene.  In fact, it would make sense.  You have Teagan telling off Loghain, then he gets word of a civil war.

i can't wait for the dalish area. I am really hoping that my dalish will
have some interesting things to say to Zev. Anyway, i have to study for
my exam in 9 hours. It's a computer theory course where the prof refers
to us as elves (Keebler kind, always work work work, he says - he's a
weird prof).. but when he says "Good luck, elves," I am hoping for a Zev
morale boost.

Sadly Zevran doesnt exactly have alot to say about the Dalish... and of the few conversations he does have one of them is female only (and you need Wynne in your party)

LOL I killed him off in this playthrough so I could get the other guy's inventory, then I realized I don't care about Far Song or anything else the guy sells... Poor Owen. >.<

And yes, if ridiculous and obscene nudity scares off the newbies, then they weren't true fans in the first place. You have to have an open mind when it comes to Zevran, right? I mean if we really wanted to, I'm sure we could come up with a much more terrible initiation process...
