I agree it is like the random gesture, but in the context it seems to me like the engine is "borrowing" it for a prayer gesture. It's possible that's intended to make Zevran look bored, but considering his other comments about being devout (in his own assassin's way, of course!), I don't think so.
Hmm, that could be true... recycling animations would certainly save a lot of money, especially for a few seconds in a cutscene. Does he make that gesture every time you ask for the blessing? I've never asked for the blessing since I usually play anti-Chantry types.
Speaking of the Chantry, I was wondering if Zevran's time at the Chantry as a child would have really been such a happy time. The Andrastian religion is based on Christianity, after all, and from one of Wynne's comments to Alistair it seems that the Chantry isn't very fond of unmarried mothers, despite the fact that Fereldan sexual morals are a bit more liberal than medieval European ones. I just kind of always assumed that as the son of a ****, Zevran would have spent most his time at the Chantry listening to sermons about depravity.
He does make the gesture every time -- it's not random.
It's a feeling I get, that perhaps his time at the chantry was a break from an otherwise pretty bad existence. He talks about being taught about sex at the wh*rehouse, about the occasional beating, refers to all of that as "old scars," and such. He also talks about asking for forgiveness and being devout and such. He doesn't sound scarred from what he learned at the Chantry. And as Addai67 said, he definitely was in awe when walking into Andastre's final resting place.
I have noticed he also makes that gesture at camp, but I wonder if it IS prayer there. /shrug This is definitely open to interpretation.
Edit: yes yes I did, but it was too late.
