I'm curious what dialogue choice other people use to respond to Taliesin.
Definitely, "Of course, I'd have to be dead first." Wow, he's SO protective in his answer to that one!

My first playthrough as a city elf rogue, I went from the Alistair romance to Zevran too. She didn't get publicly dumped because some things about Alistair made her really uncomfortable and so she broke up with him, thank goodness. I wasn't doing spoilers then and wouldn't have appreciated the humiliation after putting up with the increasingly annoying one for a big chunk of game.
Oh, I hear you on the annoying bit. I excused so much and didn't see the breakup coming even though I really should have. I had a city elf as well so keeping Anora on the throne was out of the question for me. I still occasionally romance Ali, it doesn't make me *squee*, but I like the final kiss when feeding him to the archdemon, and I also like hooking him and Anora up and Arl Eamon telling my PC that it's obvious that Alistair is in love with her, even though she dumped him the minute Zevran joined the party. Part of my "ali hate" I suppose. I also have written a lot about my meanness as a human noble, but I still giggle a bit when thinking about it!
Actually, I found my first play through had a very satisfying ending. Engaged to Zevran, and at the archdemon, I had NO clue that Alistair would actually not let the PC take that blow. So I called him a coward, and then told him when he insisted, "So do it then! I won't forget you!" The kiss blew me away, best thing he ever did. Letting him die is doing him a favor, really, but bad for the poor city elves. I didn't realize Anora would end up back on the throne.
That first play through was an emotional roller coaster, though. What an experience!

Do you get the ali kiss even if you broke up with him and are with Zev when you fight the archdemon?
If Ali ever hit 100 love with you, he stays in love. Arl Eamon comments on it, and Ali won't let you die at the archdemon. It's actually quite satisfying. And think about it . . . It's what gives Ali fangirls that something for being dumped. That last kiss really IS something!
Edit: Also, if Ali was ever at 100 love with a human noble and they get married, you end up with the "beloved bride" epilogue card instead of the "savior and new ruler" epilogue card. Even if you have an elven fellow on the side!
Second edit: You have got to be at 100 friendly for any of this to work. Since you get so many Ali gifts, and the shield is worth big points as well, that's very easy.

I'm glad I didn't read any spoilers -- I had no clue it was coming, and
was shocked at my reaction. I sat in front of my monitor, just staring,
unable to believe it, feeling completely heart broken. You know, I had
been looking forward to getting on the game, playing it, seeing what
new dialogs came up . . . I really was emotionally involved. And it
really did hurt.
I may have mentioned this before, but in my very first playthrough when I knew nothing about the game, I ended up romancing Alistair at first because I thought he was sweet. He ended up graduallly growing on my nerves, but when I found out he was the king's son I realized I could probably end up as queen (yeah I was a noble) so I decided to continue it.
Then Zevran showed up and I just genuinely loved his character (for reasons I've already discussed in the thread). So then my character was sleeping with both of them at the same time. I'm sure most of you have been in a situation like this- Alistair ends up staring over your shoulder while you have your "pillow talk" after it with Zev. heh When Alistair made me choose it was a really hard decision, but I decided to go the queen route. I probably would have chosen Zev anyway, but Alistair was at higher approval and sounded way more upset about it than Zev (who was probably around 60 or so) did.
Then, it turned out that my character didn't have high enough coercion to convince the landsmeet that she could be queen. So, I got the public breakup and literally yelled at the screen. I was mainly mad because I had already decided that Zevran was the better option and would make for the more interesting romance, but I had decided to stick it through.
Some of you might be happy to know that I then decided not to do the ritual (mainly because of the whole "old god" problem, I didn't care about Alistiar sleeping with another woman. I also didn't realize that Riordan wouldn't be able to die to kill the archdemon.). So, I fed Alistair to the archdemon and felt vindicated. I'd like to think that Cousland and Zevran ended up together after the fact.
Also, I guess I never paid enough attention to Shrek, because Zevran always reminds me of Inigo Montoya. And, I heard a story that his voice actor, upon hearing about the character, said "So he's like a sexed up version of Inigo Montoya?" So that makes me happy. You can't go wrong with Mandy Patinkin.
Edit: Ugh, the Wiki page is now comparing him to the cat from Shrek.

Ok, so giving up any pretense that we're not being completely campy and sappy here... I am wondering if there are any love songs that remind you of the Zevran romance. My mental catalog of song titles is limited but I am sure there has to be, since it is ballad-worthy.
Oh, my favorite thing in the world to do for characters. Ever. XD
"Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode is one...
A friend introduced me to Blaqk Audio last week and I thought their "Bitter for Sweet" also kind of fits, although I wouldn't call that a ballad by a long shot.![]()
Bitter for Sweet is indeed a good one... ballad really wasn't the word I was going for. I think an edgy rock (I guess that would be alternative or something) song is even more fitting.

The song that I like for Zevran's feelings for the PC is Something by the Beatles. I know it was technically written about God, but I think it fits.

How about "This side of me" by Savage Garden? Quite old by now, but i think it fits perfectly

As for how the German lines go, I can't help out much. I have the game installed in English for several reasons.
a) It helps me keeping my English up.
c) I rather listen to the original lines than the translated ones.
As for the song, I still can't make up my mind. I like almost all the suggestions.
Edited because spelling is indeed an art-form

Edit: Another quick Ali/Zevran comparison. Leaving them both at the gates -- they're both upset. Alistair wants to be there as a gray warden (which is fine, that is what he is), but Zevran wants to be there as your partner. Ok, my morning dose of squee is over.

Of course not a moldy oldie would be "Replay" by Sean Kingston - Now you'll probably all have that song stuck in your head for the next week...it has a way of doing that...
"Zevran's like a melody in my head
That I can't keep out, got me sing'in like
Na na na na everyday
It's like my iPod's stuck on replay, replay
Remember the first time we met?
You was tryin' to kill me with your friend
But then you came closer
hopin' I would give you a chance
Who would have ever knew
We would ever be more than friends
We're real worldwide, breakin' all the rules
He's like a song played again and again"
(my sincerest apologies to Sean Kingston for paraphrasing a bit)

*sighs happily* It's nice to see the birth of so many Zevran fangirls now. I've been here since the beginning, and actually romanced Zevran exclusively in my first playthrough, while everyone else was completely obsessed with Alistair.

So the following play-throughs it was Zevran right off the bat. My PC's will waste no more time with Alistair, and not only because of his ultimate betrayal wrought on my mage. There were warning signs all along the way, but my poor blind mage didn't heed them.
Alistair's fit when allowing Isolde to sacrifice herself
Alistair's even deeper fit when nailed down on the issue. The infamous "So this is really about Eamon and you".
Alistiar's lie about his origin. Come on now, don't give me that "I didn't want you to think different about me" baloney. This is important news, it concerns the succession of the throne. Moreover, Loghain knew it, but my PC didn't? Their worst enemy at that point knows important information that my PC has no access to? Please.
Alistair has an incredible fragile ego, and needs to mothered constantly
My PC has to be really careful what to say around him, lest she's willing to suffer another tantrum.
He voluntarily let my PC take over, and put everything squarely on her shoulders. In my opinion, he therefore gave up any right to question my PC's decisions. You can't have your cake and eat it too, ya know. Zevran had little choice, he wanted out of the crows, and my PC was the only option. Besides, Zevran can be in no way looked at as a follower.
Alistair never stands up for himself, not even in the village of Redcliffe when speaking to Teagan. Zevran has no such problems. He even takes action and the PC can't do nary a thing about it.
"Something on you mind, dear?" Ehrm..., grandmom? Are you around here somewhere? Can't hold any kind of candle to "I am yours."
He refuses to talk about a possible future after sex. Zevran wants it nailed down and cleared up before sex.
Alistair gets noticeably colder after sex, Zevran gets more and more attached to the PC.
when Alistair gets nailed down on a subject, he whines or has a tantrum. When Zevran gets nailed down on a subjects, he either laughs about it, admits it freely, or both.
To be honest, my shock at Alistair's behavior against my mage was so huge, that I couldn't even bring him along on a subsequent play-through. I despised the pixel-dude that much for publicly dumping my mage and for the 'mistress' option. After all she did for him, that was her "I'll love you forever" reward?
On my current play-through, I can be friends with him, and he even gets to go along every now and then, but he will never, ever be romanced again.
I do, however, absolutely love Ejoslin's little revenge plots. Hilarious, to say the least.

Fort Drakon: I thought it would be poignant since it would remind her so much of Nelaros and she would fear that Zevran would meet the same fate because of her. But I chose to send Zevran and Oghren and it was just too damn funny to be poignant. Naturally, Zevran is a master infiltrator... that dialogue with the female door guard, priceless!
Oh, and going back to the confrontation with Taliesin, I made sure to have Morrigan and Alistair in my party. They are the two who express the most suspicion of Zevran's motives. I just imagine my character giving them a meaningful look of "I told you so" when Zevran chooses to defend her rather than turn on her and go back to the Crows.

I am enjoying this playthrough so much. My city elf character is in Denerim for the Landsmeet and there is just so much there, returning to the Arl's estate (that room in the kitchen and Vaughan's room, ack!) and going to the alienage, especially with Zevran in tow. At this point my character refused the earring and then got turned down for nookums, so she interprets it that despite Zevran's (very moving) friendship dialogue, that he is signalling her that he wants to back off anything else. Having finally gotten his freedom, he doesn't want to be tied down to someone- assuming they survive the Blight. Then of course there is the alienage... both she and I wish that we could see what Zevran is really thinking as he sees where she came from.

That means Ali lives. I just arranged for his marriage to Anora, and Arl Eamon was most surprised as Ali still apparently looks at my mage like she's the only woman in the world. Poor Ali. But he'll get a good, long life with a beautiful queen (whom he doesn't like) so it's not so bad for him. Though . . . the landsmeet has not met yet . . . Loghain IS a war hero and quite a good addition to anyone's party . . . Decisions, decisions.
I can't get over how quickly I can get through these games now.
Edit: Tongue firmly in cheek here . . .

Oh no. *sly grin* I just want my character to have a sweet surprise when she comes back from the alienage feeling about as low as she can possibly be short of failing in her duty as a Grey Warden. Realizing that her gamble at giving herself up for Vaughan's murder failed utterly and so many paid the price, especially the children of the alienage whom she had hoped she would inspire.ejoslin wrote...

*Edit, one other nice touch is that I have her using Howe's axe to wreak vengeance on the slavers. It's the little things! Oh, and going back to Fort Drakon... Zevran's line "My dear Grey Warden, did you miss me?" God, so perfect.
