@Charsen: You are an evil tempter. I just rewarded myself for grading midterms by purchasing a new PC and DA:O for it--all because of your mods. It's your fault! If my husband appears on your doorstep requesting his wife back, I am not responsible. ;)

Ten pages. I go out for the evening, go to sleep, and wake up to 10 pages. On a Thursday night, no less. What is the matter with you people? Perhaps tonight I can manage to stay up long enough to actually participate a bit more.

NOOOOOOOOO King Cailens armor glitched up something HORRIBLE

and by horrible I mean it doesn't apply the set bonus any more for no apparent reason! meaning I have to load up my just before the landsmeet save otherwise it just kills Xander in combat (32% Fatigue with glitched Armor vs 7% fatigue with working set) thats a pretty big bloody difference

Yeah, unfortunately I can't look at the pics until later tonight. If they are CZ pics, no worky clicks ;)

I read that bit about the earring, and Charsen is indeed St. Charsen.

i cant seem to commit to a new character. I loved playing a mage (was a rogue the first time), and it's going to be difficult to give that up, but I can't just play through as another mage, can I? And last time, it turned out that Zevran could hardly open any locks (I did put points in, but maybe it was too late for him to skill up) so I played most of the game without opening chests. So maybe I should go rogue again, just for that. But I haven't played a warrior yet - do you usually spec them as a tank and leave Alistair behind? I think I'm going to alternate male and female characters so I'll be female this time - that's all I know, but something other than dwarf (because I've already done that). Is there much difference if you choose a different race? I didn't think the sex scene with my male elf was quite as romantic as with my female dwarf.

My warrior maidens are both DW, and don't tank. They are damage dealers, and good ones at that, because I level them up in STR and DEX mostly.

Are you on a console, Sannox? If you are on a PC, you can get the "No follower auto-level" or the "Respec" mode from Raven. I always re-do Leliana and Zevran. I don't feel it is cheating, because it's my game, so who am I cheating, and secondly, an assassin without lock-picking skills makes as much sense as a skiing trip to the Bahamas in summer.

I'm on a PC, so I'll look into that.   He should come with lock picking.   He says he can pick locks.  I found it funny when I didn't give him any lockpicking skills, and he would still insist he could do it.

'Let me have a try at that'.  Insufficient skill.
'Let me have a try at that'  Insufficient skill.
'Let me have a tr..' 'Let's just leave them till later, shall we?'
'I am yours'
'Oh, nothing.  I just wanted to look at you. Again'.
'Let me have a try at that'.  Insufficient skill.

I loved the way that his repated failures to open locks didn't dent his confidence that he'd be able to do it the next time.

I might try a DW warrior.  I had Oghren and Sten using two-handers so I haven't tried that yet.

Oh, by DW, I meant that they used two weapons. Amazon # 1 used sword and dagger, # 2 used two long-swords. Both received the 'melee archer' later on, so they could switch out if necessary. Because both their STR and DEX were high, they were actually pretty good archers, even though they never learned the special shots.

Yeah, the "insufficient skill" is funny, he always insists that he should give it a try. I just don't see an assassin having no skills to pick locks. Are they not supposed to sneak around trying to get their targets? Does he politely ring the doorbell or knocks? How would he explain himself to the butler or the maid? I'm thinking that the targets are usually not poor commoners, but political players.

"Hello, I am Zevran. I have a telegram for Ms/Mr X"

"I'll take it to her/him"

"No, it has to be delivered personally."

"I'll take you to her/him"

"Ah, no. I don't want any witn..., I mean it is a veeery personal telegram. And by the way, it is very possible that Ms/Mr X will get fatally injured by falling on a poisoned dagger, so don't be surprised. Accidents happen, no?"

It's "explained" in the book you get with the game. They suggest you do not give him lock picking skills but let him be more useful in combat. I wonder if this is RP advice, or powerplay advice... I think this may have roots in Ad&D concept where assassin class is considered as combat rogue (uses poison, sneaks behind your back and stabs you with some lethal skills) and has restrictions on rogue specific skills (can't open too complicated locks).

I personally think he needs respec, so do the other companions. Then his 'Let me have a try at that' gets whole new meaning and PC can ogle their sexy assassin while doing his job right.

Lock Bash mod > re-specing Zevran. If my mage isn't capable of using a bolt of arcane energy to break into a wooden chest, there wasn't anything in there worthwhile for me to get, anyway.

I didn't know about that. It's worth a try :)
And there is nothing interesting in locked chests anyway. The only exception are Zev's boots in Haven maybe, and items for 1 or 2 quests.

On my first playthroug I went through every dungeon twice - once without opening locked chests and second time with Leliana opening everything (even coming back on higher level if the skill was not sufficient). And it's not worth the time.

Fairly certain that the chest with the boots in Haven unlocks itself at some point or isn't locked to begin with.

that could be, I've had several bugs with chests in my game - e.g. I was never able to open the chest with Sten's sword even if I completed the quest dialogue.

It's locked, Sresla. I don't know whether it opens itself later on, but it doesn't right away, not even after the shop-keeper is dead. But because I do respec Zevran, he unlocks it without any problems. I've never had a problem giving him lock-pick skills *and* turning him into a lethal DPS dealer.

I usually don't read/heed any advice on how my NPCs should be build/used. I never had a problem doing it the way I saw best.

I do ask about advice when building my PC in ways that I am unfamiliar with, such as the AW (never played one before), but tbh, I have yet to buy any guide for RPGs. I need to find out myself, personally, all the errors, mistakes, etc., have always made the games more fun for me. If I'm stuck, a quick glance at the forums or gamefaqs usually 'unsticks' me.

What is that I read about Zevran and his fate resembling Ser Gilmore at Ft. Drakon in the exp. Why do I get a queasy feeling reading that, and why can I find nothing about that anywhere?
