I agree. The story-building part of it is my favorite part. If the characters weren't so interesting it would be just another D&D type game and my entertainment mostly from min-maxing. As it is my fanfic involves a male PC and I'm wondering how to handle this. I guess many couples where one is bisexual have some type of open relationship arrangement? I'm wondering if that would be in character for Zevran.jenovan wrote...

AwwwWell... I suppose my PC won't take that TOO terribly, since he prefers women too (or thought he did
). I'll definitely have to root around in that conversation this evening.
@Sabriana, this is actually the first game I've played where there is a gender choice, AND the gender choice makes a significant difference. I'm used to playing male characters when there's no choice, and putting up with the role that forces you into, or playing things where gender really doesn't matter (like an MMO or something).
From the point of view of someone who likes to tell stories, being able to play both genders in a game like this, where every interaction and choice seems to make a difference, is huge fun.I'm looking forward to seeing the differences in a female playthrough next!
What's the (Romantic) Appeal of Zevran?

I have two bisexual friends, a man and a woman. The man is utterly and completely in love with a woman, and devoted to her and their relationship. He won't so much as look at another woman/man.
The woman is equally devoted and committed to her female life-partner.
But I do guess there are those that hop from flower to flower, just like the hetero and homosexual flower-hoppers do.

I was wondering about that. That's why I'm not sure what's in character. Zevran not in love is promiscuous, or at least gives that impression. But what about in love?Sabriana wrote...
Well, actually a bi-sexual is usually just as monogamous as a hetero or homosexual person can be. They just don't restrict to one gender only when falling in love. A bisexual woman could fall madly in love with another woman, or a man, and be completely and solely committed to that partner only.

It seems to me my mage asking Zevran to not have sex with women when Zevran likes women and sees sex frequently as simply recreation is kind of mean, but I could be completely wrong!

Should he only be in lust, then I think it would be completely in character for Zevran to resent being told to knock it off by anyone. After all, he sees sex as pleasure and makes no restrictions other than that it be 'done well'.
I can imagine Zevran telling that mage off in Zevran-style if only in lust. If in love, he wouldn't have to be told to stop sleeping with others. He wouldn't do it on his own.

This will make my mage happy. So far they both think they're just in lust (the fools!), so haven't even talked about this stuff.Sabriana wrote...

As a footnote to what Sabriana wrote, Zevran also has those issues with being pinned down or forced to admit his feelings, so (if not in love), I could imagine him being displeased with being asked to change his behavior for someone. It sounds too much like a commitment.

I love the way he reacts when my PC asks him "What about love?" I know I'll take an approval hit, but his reaction is far too splendid to watch to forgo it. It tells a heck of a lot about the man that Zevran has been forced into being by his slave-masters.

It's really nice to see Zevran has grown quite a fanclub as well since the early days of DA when the forums were filling with 1001 "WE love Ali" threads and I tried to evoke a bit of Zev love that got like 2 answers
Let's just hope he is in some way present in Awakening, I know my PCs (well my mage and Dalish) wouldn't give him away for anything Bioware might offer them next

FWIW, I think the wording of the card when you sacrifice yourself means that Zevran never touches anyone again. He has many offers of bedmates, not many offers from bedmates, which is very different. So I agree that Zevran in love would never cheat.
The only thing I really haven't decided with the whole Zevran thing is when he really falls in love. I know the Taliesin encounter is the turning point, but you can have dialog going either way that says it was pretty much from the start and also that it doesn't happen until later. I am completely convinced that being able to change the status to love, even though he is just in adore, is deliberate, not a bug, and consistent with him being completely conflicted for awhile before.
But that is my obsessive fangirl side talking
Edit: An interesting thing -- when he asks about your future the first time, you can imply that it would be a sexual thing only (I can always find a use for a handsome elf) and he doesn't mind, but after that, if you make a comment like that, you end up losing approval. In fact, if you ask him to your tent the first time, if you make it sound like it's just sex, you don't get nearly the approval as you do if you tease him back when he starts teasing you. If you just cut to the chase (I bet you're good at a lot of things), you lose a LOT of approval.

However, this time around I'm wavering, and I think I want him to make the first move. Is it possible for my PC to gain such a huge approval rating with Zevran that way as well? I'm not sure, I checked around, but I can't find anything definite.
If yes, please spoil me. If it's too much of a spoiler, there's always the pm, no?

I don't remember what my female mage got for inviting him... just remember that she felt horrible at the sad look on his face when she told him she had chosen Alistair. She hadn't seen past his facade that it didn't mean anything to him and was just a fling, then realized she had used him like he had probably been used by many before. I didn't finish that character- just didn't like where it had gone.

Alistair likes it when you break up. He is so much warmer when he's saying, "Ask away," than when he's saying, "Anything you need, my dear?" In fact, it's so much warmer a greeting it was jarring for me my first playthrough. Heh, I love how Alistair and Zevran are complete opposites in the romance.
He does? I haven't tried that yet, I can barely make my PC be friends with him, but I'd like to see that one. That "anything you want, my dear?" was truly a huge turn-off. Sadly, my silly little mage swallowed it and plowed ahead with the romance. Lucky for her, she got the right man at the end, but she certainly missed out on a lot of good stuff. Unlike my HN, the lucky girl.
By the way, I went ahead and DL a make over version of Zevran. If I install it now, will it change him in my current game, or will I have to start a new one? Would anyone know? The description didn't mention anything about that. (Or I just missed it, which is entirely possible)
The dark haired ones were intriguing, but I got another blonde. Hey, what can I say? I like blondes.

Just put it in your /override folder. It makes no difference. I'm back to original characters, but I'll probably change it up again.
And yes, if you break up in a decent way with Alistair, you lose no approval. Even if you dump him for Zevran, even if you tell Zevran first, as long as you're nice to Ali when you do it, he's fine. Poor Alistair is in over his head.

I'm working on that for my story. I think he is before but is in denial about it. The Taliesin encounter is in my mind more catastrophic than it appears in game. I think I need to write that backstory before I can get it right in my head. Oh joy.ejoslin wrote...

It's a really good melee rogue tactic since they have so many stuns. Both Zevran and Daveth are melee rogues.
