I totally just spoiled myself too...couldn't resist temptation! I'm not getting Awakenings until the summer (May/June) so I have a feeling a LOT of things will be spoiled for me by then.

I played a couple hours tonight.  There was one little instance where I heaved a little *sob*.  I'm trying not to be spoilerish, but those of you who've played might have noticed the line I mean when doing your recruiting.

I think I know which line you mean. :(  It sounded as if it were meant to be joking/sarcastic, but my PC would have been a bit wistful when he said it... Image IPB

Mine, too.  Image IPB  The dumb thing is that I'm noticing the immersion break even more on HNF (who romanced and married Alistair but friended Zevran and kept him at court) than I would on my elf mage.  With elf mage, Zevran could well be minding the home fort in Gwaren.  Not that he really would let her go on a mission alone, but it's more plausible than my HNF leaving her right-hand man behind.  Who's supposed to be watching out for assassins?

And I reaaaallly want to hear what Zevran has to say about some of these situations.  HNF is missing her advisor, too.  *sad eyes*

Immersion break . . . Marrying Alistair for political reasons. Heh. Anyone want to hear what he calls her? And I'm assuming it's the same for someone who married him for love.

Edit: My assumption is the same because it seems that there's no difference between a love marriage and a political marriage -- I think it only looked for "Alistair married to player".

My HNF who has Zevran around at the end is definitely missing him. I'm pretending like he and Charon (her mabari) are keeping an eye on Alistair.

I'm curious ;D

I thought his reception of the (obviously non-romanced/non-married) PC was not what I was quite hoping for, but I told myself that 1) it was a semi-official setting, not a friendly chat, and 2) he's learned to be kingly.  Still... kinda lame. :/

Unhardened Alistair was even cordial to my warden who I ended up playing despite the fact that he HATED her.  I do want to see if there's a difference if it's a HNF he married at neutral.  At 100 Friendly, he's a happy guy and they're definitely hitting the sheets.

*SPOILER WARNING* *SPOILER WARNING* *SPOILER WARNING*

They're talking affectionately, and Alistair calls her a "saucy little minx." Hahahaha.  It truly made me go WTF.

Aw, Charon... I just dissed Bethesda games, but I have fluttery hearts for Charon, too.  And that is an excellent thought-  HNF would give up the company of Zevran and Ulfilas, her mabari, if it was to keep Alistair safe.  Still sad, but a better sad.

I know this is Zevran's domain, but I'll quickly mention on this topic that I took screenshots in this HNF's "fight your way to the gates" scene because I noticed that Ulfilas was sticking to Alistair like glue that whole time.   It was quite funny. This is when you're all running around fighting without you controlling any party members.  I just thought it was kind of sweet that my mabari was guarding the royal husband.  I'm sure he was doing what she'd commanded him to do.  Image IPB

o.O What? Alistair calls the PC a 'saucy little minx'? Is't that Zev's line?

Loving SirOccam's Awakening Rant thread....

Started a Cousland. Playing a warrior is BORING! And my collecting mind is having major issues leaving all those chests behind. Ah well. Good Grey Warden me! Daddy did say being a Grey Warden was the highest possible calling.....

Hmmm, after reading an Alistair love thread, I MAY have the line a bit off.  I could have SWORN it was the entire thing, but maybe it was just "minx".  WTF ever -- that IS Zev's line!  Alistair never called anyone a minx, but Zev sure did.  I thought it was pretty bad taking one of Zev's terms of endearments and giving it to Alistair!

Edit: That picture of duncan . . . Wow, that's SO funny!

LOL, wow, crazy pics!  XD  Your Cousland is really pretty :3
I'm also finding playing a warrior kind of boring compared to a rogue, but I set out to play at least ONE. XD;  Sigh.  I mean, I'll still be playing DW, but... well, really, I want my Deft Hands! Image IPB  I've resisted getting the lock bash mod, but... XD

thanks :) What 3.5 hours on a plane will get you with nothing else to do. Lady next to me was staring at my laptop....then leaning over to her hubby to whisper.....had started the origin while flying also....was a little worried after flirting with Dairrien (?) and getting him into bed that things might not be...'public worthy' but no problems tehre, until my Cousland ran out in her panties to pucnh Howes' guards to death.

I'm resisting the lock bash mod too....and I decided also I had to play at least one warrior.....going duel weild a little bit later, right now she's a s&S gal

I wonder if there are any differences between hardened/unhardened King Alistair... :o

Ahh, I should probably go (carefully) read Awakenings threads, but I like talking with you guys & gals. Image IPB

The game uses that line a couple times, though.  Fergus will call you a saucy little minx if you tell him you've got someone waiting for you in your room.

*possible Awakening spoilers*

I am guessing that they got Alistair's VA in for one session and thus had to use the same scene for everybody.  So the political wives are saying "WTF?" and the love matches are saying "that's IT?!"  Heh.

I was missing my companions, and continuity in general, so much that I was even happy to see you-know-who!  Astounding.

Edit to add spoiler tag.  I'm not sure what's considered spoiler and what's not...

What's sad, reading what the writers are saying... we're never going to have another game like DA:O.  They don't like the way the companion dialog system was set up, they don't like the camp fire, so they're changing that.  And anyone who doesn't like it, tough, don't buy the game.

Gah, makes me so sad :(  I loved falling in love with Alistair.  I loved falling in love with Zevran (repeatedly).  I loved hating and liking Wynne depending on my character.  I liked helping Oghren.  I even enjoyed finally being able to draw Sten out.  I really enjoyed becoming Morrigan's best friend.

I'm really sorry there won't be this again.  Awakenings is fun.  But the immersion just isn't there.  So after I get bored of DA:O, that's it :crying:  I really wanted to like the new system.  I wish I did.  I wish he drew me into the world the same way the conversations in DA:O did.  I'm very sad.

Ah well, New Vegas IS coming out this fall!  If I'm going to be wandering basically alone, with NPCs chatting it up (in my party or not), at least there will be lots of variety!

Edit: What's most sad is the writers don't even see what a huge complement this is to them and the world they created.  I love them for giving me at least DA:O *grin*

Morning folks~

Well.... to be honest, I didn't like the camp fire either. It was too static and lifeless. People just standing about, dog constantly yipping, nothing going on. It's like they were dead unless I talked to them.

Where are you reading this about the writers' opinions? What didn't they like about dialogue/campfire?  I know that a lot of people were dissapointed about the way the player dialogue was set up after ME's pretty awesome take on it, but what didn't the writers like? Link? :?

How is DA: A different? (dialogue/campsite?)

^this

I also hated how you could exhaust all the dialogue options in one sitting

BEGONE SATAN!

LOL, teasing you.  *sigh* I just wish they would consider keeping in some variant of that as well as adding other dialog.

One of my favorite moments of the game was a Zevran-as-a-friend moment.  I was in a full romance with Alistair, but I STILL remember when found the Antivan boots.  I was so excited and couldn't wait to get back to camp so I could give them to him (my first playthrough, not a romance partner, he stayed at camp).

Those were the kind of moments that made the game for me, just those unexpected bits where I knew one of the companions would be incredibly happy.  But I actually cared that I found them.  And it's because of the conversations by the camp fire.

I wonder what actually could be done.  I don't think what's going on in awakenings will work for me -- and these are very likable characters!  I wish I were more creative this way for sure!

Edit: I agree, I didn't like the way you could exhaust all the conversations in one sitting either.  What would be nice is like the Sten things -- giving you new things to talk about.  Or as you progress through the story, more dialogs opening up.  Clicking on objects?  It's not doing it for me :crying:  Ah well, I'm still slugging out awakenings.  But I have played a bit of Origins as well.  So I probably will be a bit slow on finishing this!

WHAT?!!?!1!  Don't they play their own game?!  They don't realize that the very reason we consider the game so unique and absorbing is this very thing?

*deflates*

I don't even want to play any more, if that's what we can expect.  I'm only playing DA:A on afterglow and because I figured the next time they got a bigger budget we could go back to the way it was supposed to be.

*curses!*

This thread. :)

I don't miss the fire per se, and really -- most conversations you could have at camp, you could also have out in the world.  Having a retreat is nice, too, although we still have that...  What I miss is being able to start the conversations on my own terms at least every once in a while. Image IPB

Don't know if we want to have that whole discussion over here (maybe we do Image IPB), though.

Edit: The reviews seem very mixed and the writers, defensive.
