Ugh, ok, I"ll put PART of the dialog in here, but it really needs to be heard in game. There's more to it, but this is part of it.
Zevran: . . . Didn't you read the legends as a child? The gray warden always dies . . .

How exactly can this dialogue be triggered? And when?
*me drools over the idea of new Zev dialogue!*
Hahahaha, /wave AndreaDraco. If you're romancing him, it's after the first offer of the earring. If you're not romancing him, it's the first dialog after the Taliesen encounter. In order to get this, though, when given a choice, you have to tell Zevran you consider him a friend as well (NOT that you consider him more than a friend) and after he gives the first part of his talk, then tell him he doesn't have to die either.

Agh! It would be so hard not to tell him that I consider him *more* than a friend, but I have to try it!
Treasure his friendship. You get more in the next few dialogs anyway. But it's nice when the one you love treasures the friendship first and foremost. Just . . . AFTER everything is all established, never refer to him as a friend again, especially if you leave him at the gates (better not to leave him at the gates, mind you, but that's my opinion)
I love metagaming at times.
Edit: For real, it's his second best dialog in the game, only beat by the dark city dialog. It really is that good it's worth reloading if you must tell him at that point that you're more than friends. I bet, though, after hearing it, you'll never want to say more than friends at that point again! Heh, look at it this way -- he is so confused over his feelings for you that he even refuses the sex; he needs the time to work things out for himself.

Doesn't he say the Grey Wardens plural? And if he means the archdemon specifically, why does he bring up the idea of the sidekick dying instead of the GW? That's what made me think he was speaking generally rather than with specific knowledge of how the archdemon is slain.ejoslin wrote...

Like I told AndreaDraco, it's worth talking to him and getting it. He says it whether at friendly or at love, after the Taliesen encounter. You just have to tell him you consider him a friend, and that he doesn't have to die. His loyalty to the PC is unsurpassed by anyone in the game, but that dialog is so easy to miss.

About the gates, I must admit that I slightly prefer the left-at-the-gates version of the Black City speech, which I found more epic and emotional, but I can never force myself to leave Zev at the gates, so this is not really an issue

I said already that he does not know the details, just that the hero always dies. In the context it's pretty obvious he's talking about the legends concerning ending the blight, the hero always dies. He's not talking in generalities, he's talking about what they're doing, ending the blight. He even starts by saying he has never done anything so worthy, helping end the blight, and he is there until the end to prevent the PC's untimely death.
*sigh* I know I am going to end up putting the dialog here eventually, but I hate putting that much of a spoiler in. But here it is, though not off screen shots so it may not be exact:
PC: I consider you a friend as well
Zevran: Then let me tell you this. What we are doing here, stopping the blight . . . I have never done anything so worthy. I intend to see this through to the end with you. After all, someone must take responsiblity for preventing your untimely death. A suitable task for a friend, yes?
PC: You don't have to die either, you know.
Zevran: Oh, I'm not going to die. It's always the gray wardens who die.. Didn't you read the stories as a child? The hero always dies. Unless the hero has a sidekick with him. Hmmm. Then the sidekick dies. I knew there was a catch somewhere. This friendship thing is for the birds!
Edit: Fixed a text error

Maybe I am reading too much into it, but it does seem to be specifically about ending the blight. And how a gray warden always dies. And how he wants to prevent that, even if it means he's the one who dies instead.

Tomorrow I will definitely try out this dialogue and I'll report back!
The sad thing is, all four of the final choices you can make there have amazing dialogs. I like that one because he shows he knows exactly what he's getting into and what he's offering to do, but all of them are good.

It may be because english is not my first language that I had some trouble at first seeing him in the same dept as all of you, even as he was my first romance in the game. He really grows on you and I can't help but liking him more than Alistair.
This thread has been really helpful. I would have missed so many interesting things about him if it weren't for you, like with his second offer of the earring etc.
Please contine discussing Zevvie :3 I love reading this thread~!
I really hope we get so see him alot in Awakening.
*Goes to play a new game to romance him once again*

I wish I had the peripherals on my lame laptop to create a Zev tribute sadly I can't even play the game on a PC because my puny laptop has a x1250 chipset that can barely handle Fable 1

Question. I'm playing a male PC at 100% with Zev, romantic. But he doesn't say to me (as he's said to my female PC in another game) "I am yours", when I go to speak with him. Instead, he says "You call?". I've given him the gloves and JUST before I quit just now, gave him the boots, to see if there was any change in anything, and there wasn't. I'm playing on XBox 360, so my bar is stupid--all I can tell is percentage--and I have no idea if it's ever interested, friendly, adore or love. I'm guessing, maybe, that he doesn't say it until after the Taliesan encounter? Is that when he ticks over into love? Or is it just less romantic with a male PC, and "You call?" is as romantic as it gets?
Yes, you have to wait until after the Taliesen encounter. That's when the romance deepens.
Have fun with it!

So it's after that that he starts saying "I am yours"?
The female PC I was playing with before didn't play the romance out all the way, so I'm looking forward to discovering the rest of it, although Landsmeet is still a ways off.

Yes, that's when the switch happens, male or female PC. And yes, the romance ends SO well.
