Sad fact: the only screenshot I have with Xander looking remotley approving is a screenshot of the ending scene from the better sex mods and not only is it not exactly a good pose at all its hilariously creepy looking

Well I wrote on the "dialog system" thread.... I can see what DG and co. wanted to improve on. But I think they're throwing out the baby with the bathwater. If dialog is linked to objects, then each dialog "chunk" is like a puzzle piece. How do relationships develop organically over time with that system?
With the camp system, your relationships EVOLVE. With this, you just get a new puzzle piece...
Ah well, the dream that was DA:O.....

still, I guess I'll finish Awakenings a time or two before I give up entirely. I am a bit surprised at some of the hostility I'm hearing out of The Man's mouth (well, typing) about the gamers's reactions....

This is what I don't get.  The insistence that it's broken.  Well...  I had the impression that DA:O was pretty successful?  Maybe I've been staring at Zevran's thighs all this time and not realized that sales were bombing?

And ugh.  Over in that awful thread, David Gaider just referred to DA:O camp dialogue as "aimless chatter."  Charsen or someone mentioned not having faith in your product being bad for the expansion, but have a little faith in the original?!!

It's deflating, but no doubt good therapy.  I needed something to kick me back into, you know, having a life.

so dew to me being hilariously bored...who wants a banner made of their character granted you need to provide me with a screenshot of them happy/disapproving and a screenshot of their name on an epilogue card or a black background of some type :3

Yeh, Addai67, that thread depressed me more than anything. There are plenty of games out there that have similar combat, similar quests -- what set DA:O apart and won it all those awards and such was the interaction. I get that they want to improve it. But I don't get why they think that the system that is in place is so bad.

And yes, I had the EXACT same reaction. Awakenings has very much broken my immersion in the DA world. This is not necessarily a bad thing. My house is already cleaner!

I guess I needed reminding that it truly is, no matter how amazing, just a game.  Not a whole different universe.

It's true that Xander looks seriously pissed off in most pictures you post. My first character looked liked she was about to cry 99% of the time. I hated that, I wanted to smack her

I did always have the feeling that it was a one-time thing.  Ah well, there are other worlds...  I've started Song of Ice and Fire cycle of novels, so if I want to waste time, that will do.

Can't help but feeling cheated, though.  It just re-affirms for me that I'm not a (video) gamer.  If this is what gamers want, they can have it.  My husband will be glad to have his PC back.

also I just noticed something...Xander took me a whopping 98 hours to complete and thats ignoring the fact I had to restart dew to death and stuff... thats a LONG playthrough even for me (it takes me around 60 odd hours on average to beat the game)

I'm seriously wondering if there is just a money thing behind all of it. Is it really cheaper to do the dialog system the Awakenings way ? Maybe I'm just jaded as hell about what happened with Vanguard, which had the potential for being "the best MMO" and was just so horribly mangled (note--I played it for a long time. got my griffon AND my wyvern so I didn't bail too early lol )..



oh well, at least it's happening when it's getting nicer outside.

I'm finally playing Awakening. I've only played an hour or so, and I can't really comment on the new dialogue system, but from the look of it, I guess it can work... in this expansion, given the lack of romanceable characters (and Zevran). It remains to be seen what will be done with future expansions/sequels.

Hi AndreaDraco. I have to agree that Awakenings is not a bad game at all. It's just... shallow compared to Origins. *sigh* I am glad that DA:O was the wonderful experience it was -- so wonderful that I'm crushed that even the devs don't see how special their character interaction was.



However, I will play it. I'll be slower to buy expansions and such. I usually wait for GOTY editions anyway. But hopefully the stories will at least be good enough that losing the depth and such will still make them an enjoyable experience!

Finding any emotional pictures of our Wardens is ridiculously hard because they almost never attach animations them.. that's why we always peek over our shoulders when talking to others.. occasionally there's a glamor shot, but man...



Tried to find a shot of happy-Charsin but don't seem to have one.. but I did find Charsin's angry face

It wouldn't be too hard to make a glamor mod that just makes your character use expressions... i'll think on that while i finish Awakening

Here's an epilogue slide with his name but truly you don't have to make a banner out of it if you're busy or unbored - my photoshop skills are teh sux, but i can live vicariously through xander's disapproval

The relationship aspect was what made me love the game. I'm surprised at how much I got caught up in the romance. I don't think I'd have thought about buying a romance game (if such a thing exists), but having the romance happen alongside the other quests really worked - after all, in real life there are other challenges that you have to face while falling in love. The relationships in general but the romance in particular kept drawing me back to the game (housework? What was that again?). What would have made the game even better for me was more of that - more romance dialogues, more plot to the romances and a more complete conclusion at the end. (And a cutscene of my warden and Zevran arriving in Antiva).

I had mixed feelings about the camp. I know it made sense to have the conversations there, but sometimes I liked having them at other places. There was something about the greenish lighting and the blood splatters on Zevran's face when he told my warden about Rinna that made the story more poignant. I liked that he talked about his adventures in a bedroom in Denerim. My second warden took him down to the little lake next to the Dalish camp to give him the Dalish gloves. So it looks like I avoided the camp. Howvever, I did like having a place where there was no fighting and I could talk to all my companions.

I don't really play RPGs. The last one that grabbed me was Planescape:Torment and that was a good few years ago. There is something special about this game. I'll be really disappointed if that isn't followed through in Awakenings or later games.

Ooooh, yes please?? XD  Was going to post the same complaint... it's hard to find too many images of your Warden doing anything but staring intently at things.  They may look good doing it, but still. ;D
