So, earlier on I was saying that there was no Alistair banter about the Zevran relationship.  That does seem to be true, although I was running various characters together along Orzammar's platform to make sure I hadn't missed any dialogues (the things you do after multiple playthroughs, heh) and I did come across a delicious Zevran-Alistair dialogue.  Alistair tries to get Zevran to admit that after the Blight he is going to leave the PC and go back to the Crows.  I think it's the only party banter where I've heard Zevran sound angry.   However, next dialogue he was back to his usual self, playing at being offended that Alistair might impugn his patriotism as a new Fereldan.  I love it!

Oh, but Leliana.  She totally wants Zevran.  I told her "he's taken" and she just repeated herself about simply observing her traveling companions.  Whatever!  Back off you Orlesian tart!  LOL

Wow!! Zev and Alistair are standards in my party, I hope I get to hear that eventually :o

Wow, that is perfect! :D  Thanks for posting that... aww...

Okay, I had installed the Dialogue Tweaks mod that lets you kiss Zevran anywhere, but it was only last night that he hit Adore... I had to try it when I saw it in the menu, and was rewarded not only with Zevran's amused "Oh, what's this?", but Alistair's awkward "I'll be looking at something else. Over here."  I giggled for probably 5 minutes after that.   /sigh  Yep... I don't know how I'm going to be able to ever play an Alistair romance knowing Zev is right there. :innocent:

I got that Alistair-Zevran bit when I had only the two of them in the party. I wish I could remember exactly what was said, sorry. It goes something like:

A: So after all this is over, you're going back to the Crows, aren't you?

Z: What I do rather depends on your fellow Grey Warden.

A: Sure, but if you were really free to do what you wanted, you would go back, wouldn't you?

Z: *I don't remember exactly what he said here*

A: Aha! So you are going to go back!

And then I don't remember what Zevran said, only that he definitely sounded peeved. That's all heavily paraphrased, maybe someone else has the actual text.

I love dialog tweaks.  And I keep meaning to do a friendship-Zevran play through, but I can't do it!  I have a human mage who has him at 46 warm right now, but no desire to play her at all; I just want to ask him about his staring.  Heh, I just started my last noble playthrough after seeing what a disaster unhardened Alistair is on the throne.  This time Elissa will not romance him, will not harden him (I've always hardened him in my previous play throughs), and will marry him.  I'm hoping to see the word "queen" instead of "princess-consort," but I'm not holding my breath.  However, I have a feeling this may end up being the best Alistair-marriage ending yet!  Well, at least as far as my power-crazed side of me goes . . .

DA Wiki shows this, which sounds similar:

  • Alistair: So I have a question for you, Zevran. You're here, at least in part, to get away from the Crows, right?
  • Zevran: That is indeed true.
  • Alistair: So when this is over, what do you intend to do with yourself? You can't go back to Antiva, I assume.
  • Zevran: What I do depends in large part upon your fellow Grey Warden. I am not a free man, as it were.
  • Alistair: Yes, yes, but what if you could do whatever you wanted?
  • Zevran: What makes you think I intend to go anywhere?
  • Alistair: So you do intend to go back to the Crows?
  • Zevran: I said no such thing. I think I should stay where I am. Ferelden is a marvelous country.
  • Alistair: Why don't I believe you?
  • Zevran: You're not much of a patriot, are you? Well I'm not going to listen to such slander of my new home. Off with you, then.
Apparently you only get that version before we find out about Alistair's lineage though...if you know he's Maric's son, you get the version where Zev tries to convince Alistair that kings need assassins.

  • Alistair: Yes, yes, but what if you could do whatever you wanted?
  • Zevran: Oh, I don't know. Aren't you going to be king? Perhaps you have people you need killed?
  • Alistair: I probably do, yes.
  • Zevran: See? It's that sort of thinking that makes me think I have a future in this fine country of yours.
  • Alistair: That's assuming I would hire you.
  • Zevran: That's the lovely thing about kings. They make for good business, as the client or the target.
  • Alistair: And people wonder why someone might not want to be king.

Yet another place where the wiki is wrong -- I have gotten the first one in Redcliff. It may be a difference in a male/female PC playthrough or a difference in PC approval as well.

The party dialog is interesting, though, that often it says more about your relationship than the conversations that you have with the companions. People has said a lot here about the conversation with Shale where Zevran says that having a baby with the PC would not be a bad thing. Well, that conversation can happen way before the Taliesen encounter. As do the conversations where Zevran is admitting the reason he is staying is because of the PC. Actually, the reactions that Alistair and Zevran have to the party once the relationships turn intimate says so much about the relationships. Alistair is embarrassed, Zevran is happy and certainly sounds like he's committed.

I'm playing a male PC now romancing Morrigan, and there is a lot of jealousy party banter between Morrigan and Leliana. I have to say Aedan quite enjoys it ;p

But I've never heard any jealousy talk between Alistair and Zevran? Is there any?

never seen any jealousy banter between Alistair or Zevran outside the "chose him or me talk" then again Iv only played through as a female twice (out of my 7 Playthrough...)

also I have a question of my own any one know how to get this conversation with leliena?

but I only ever I get the standard "hes quite a character talk your zevran" conversation I take it I have to pursue a romance with her which I somehow start without even meaning to much to my annoyance in all my Playthrough's except the one where I forced myself to romance her

I liked the relationship conversation between Morrigan and Zevran.

The ending goes along the lines of ....

Morrigan: You are a wily one, Zevran.

Blah blah blah.

Towards the end.

Zevran: We all have our reasons to be here. Mine just comes with a lovely pair of eyes.

Yeah, i like it too, but I think it's quite unfair guys get this amusing banter of the two girls fighting for them, and then girls don't get anything like it

We are talking about Alistair! I'm sure males don't have to listen to Morrigan asking Sten if he's male and how to woo the PC!

I was disappointed there was hardly banter over my relationship with Zevran infact I can only recall 2 banters concerning the fact my PC was infact gay one was Zevran and Shale talking about reproduction and Zevran chimes in how thats not likely to happen in this case, and the other was Oghren asking in a really awkward fashion if he and I where in a relationship and when Zevran says yes Oghren awkwardly asks him if we can keep it down at night

I'm baffled to read about the attraction of Zevran. I'm not arguing: everyone has her own preferences. I'm just seeking a little explanation.

In Threads like this, I see a number of women and female characters find Zevran attractive, when I mistakenly figured his primary vibe would be 'sleazy.'

I do understand that preferences vary, and that men don't always understand what women like, even when they think they do. And I hear this, too:

ejoslin wrote...
And anyone who thinks a guy is sleazy just because he hits on you immediately hasn't known too many guys!

But the instant, perpetual, and indiscriminate interest in bedding everyone seems a poor formula for making the main character feel valued.

He reminds me of a high-school friend whose similar good traits - a sense of a humor and delicate good looks - were overshadowed by his habit of lobbing compliments too clunky to disguise their sexual intent. Girls looked at him like a dog in need of neutering.

Oddly, that same friend is now staggeringly successful as a flirt with nearly the opposite approach, a tendency toward Morrigan-like challenges. Not all women want the same thing, of course, but I believe he never found any who liked his eager-beaver style... the same one employed by Zevran.

I'm a writer, and I've misread him. I missed an appeal Zevran must have, and I'd like to understand it better. What makes him click with you, if he does?

It's definitely the accent that drew me in. Then the more I talk to Zevran, the more I like him. There is a lot more depth to him that you won't see unless you make an attemt to get his approval rating up. There is a reason, that Zevran is the way that he is. I actually have tried to romance other npc's on subsequent playthroughs, but I always end up coming back to Zevran. I never once thought he was sleazy.

What drew me in was his unwavering loyalty to my PC, even though she romanced Alistair. The silly girl. Got her heart cut into ribbons, but Zevran was there to do the healing.

In subsequent play-throughs I discovered more and more depth to the Antivan elf - more depth than I have ever seen in a game-romance. For example, when he insists that my PC choose either him or Alistair, there is a part in the conversation that goes something like this:

Zevran: "I can just step aside....."

PC: "If that's what you want."

Zevran: "What I want? It's not so simple as this."

To my PC it meant one thing. He knows he feels something for the PC that gives him great pause. Nothing is 'simple' anymore for Zevran where the PC is concerned. He might wish it, he might fight it, but deep down he knows he's fighting a losing battle.

Edited to thank Jenovan for the marvelous work. Thanks, I'll go and get him as soon as I can. The blonde one. I like blondes, so what? ;)

So much for my human mage who romances Alistair play through for now . . .   It's funny how while the romance is considered deepened after Taliesen, it really seems like it had deepened way before then, just he stopped fighting it after the encounter.

I have a story written about Zevran, although the original is written in Spanish if anyone cares what intetaria take into English. I think it would be a good start for a new adventure based on the romance.

I admire him in dark hair, but the blonde is just too ingrained in my mindscape now, so blonde he stays, for me XD

Exactly -- the Taliesin encounter just seems like the turning point.  Maybe it's that he finally sees that he CAN be completely free of the Crows, and can allow himself to think about that most dangerous four-letter word?  Going along with his mentions of this being a new way of life for him and everything...

Jayelet, I'd be curious about your story, but I don't think my Spanish would be good enough to read it that way... XD

Heh, I don't think this is in any way Zevran-specific, but I just got the stern talking-to from Wynne about love vs. responsibility.  I hate that talk! :pinched:  Most of the PC's answer choices seem petulant and/or confrontational.  Sooo  not my PC :/

No, I got that at close to 100 Friendly with Leliana.  Of course, shortly thereafter I started asking her polite and innocuous questions about Marjolaine and next thing I know Morrigan is talking about me shooting glances with "that girl."  Too bad there isn't a dialogue option to respond "Whoa whoa WHOA, hold the phone!"

The conversation with Wynne always struck me more as Wynne resenting the PC as when faced with a similar choice when she was younger, she had to give up whomever it was (this is just hinted at if you ask her what she could possibly know of love).  It doesn't matter whom you're romancing, she accuses you of putting your personal desires over ending the blight, but with absolutely no basis for the accusation.  The funny thing is, if you're romancing Alistair, if you do the ritual with Morrigan, that is exactly what you do.

With all of them she does.  And yes, I like the way she changes.

Edit: Well. I'm assuming she does with Leliana.  Not sure about Morrigan.  But with Zevran, of course it's the tenderness in his gaze.  With Alistair, he's less guarded.
