When you bring up the slavery in the Landsmeet, he distinctly says that the Alienage is unsalvagable. That says a lot, making me believe that he feels the elves have lost whatever standing they had thanks to the riots, and decided it best to just get rid of them all.
That, to me, is utterly dispicable, particularly from a man who has experienced the kind of oppression the elves are experiencing at his hands. There is a complete lack of empathy that I find disturbing. As I said, he wouldn't have allowed dogs to be treated in such a way, but it was acceptable to treat elves that way. It is as if he learned nothing from his experience under the Orlesians except how to hate Orlesians.

I agree about the elves. I had a tough time with the slavery issue as well. My nobles blamed that on Rendon Howe. Howe was the evil bastard that warped Loghain, who was so afraid of and Orlesian invasion that he listened to him I did have an elf that was intending to let Loghain live and at the end of her playthrough I just couldn't do it. _Perhaps_ an elf mage could --- IF she was taken early enough that she felt no kindred spirit for the elves and thought that the priority was having more wardens. After all, Riordan seems like a very honorable man, and was very very nice to my elven characters, and yet he thought letting Loghain live was a good idea.
I need to finish my two dwarven ladies... I really liked Leske as my commoner buddy (I find him much more appealing than Oghran, who I just don't really like all that much). Too bad he's going to disappoint me..
As far as the dwarf origins go... I thought Gorim was more fun to have along than Leske... "Gorim, why is this man speaking to me?" "Gorim, have this man killed, but make it look like an accident."

I would like to point out that sadly Loghains view on the elves is not an uncommon one

This is true. I'm sure even a City Elf, who becomes Teryn/Teyrna of Gwaren is treated rather...brusquely because they are an elf.Cuddlezarro wrote...

I know it isn't an uncommon attitude, but I find it unacceptable in someone who has that sort of a leadership position. Cailin was uninformed, but he genuinely seemed to care about the lives of everyone in his kingdom. Anora cares about power. Period. Loghain cares about Fereldon, but only the people he has deemed worthy. The unworthy include anyone with the nerve to disagree with him, elves etc. About the only thing he says he wouldn't have done was kill his daughter.
And I don't buy the notion that it was all Howe's influence. Loghain is not Allistair or even Cailin. This is not a man who can be easily swayed or conned. That is not meant as a dig at Allistairor Cailin, but they are young, sheltered and incredibly easy to influencce. Loghain is the polar opposite of those things. Loghain himself never tries to argue that he is influenced by Howe and there were plenty of torture victims strewn about Ft. Drakon--a place ostensibly under Loghain's control, not Howe's.
I don't mean to hijack the thread into a Loghain hate thread. I really don't like any of the choices at the Landmeet.

***spoilers***
If you release Nathaniel Howe instead of conscripting him, you will run into him again when you travel. If Oghren is in your group at the time, he will invoke Zevran's name. Be prepared for an approval hit, but I thought it was nice to have Zevran be mentioned like that. Never saw any dialogue that referred to any other former companion by name!

I was looking in my inventory tonight and remembering that a lot of the poisons I have are stuff I had Zevran making before the final battle. *sniffle*
Edit: I think I just need to log on to vanilla Origins to remind myself that he's not dead. I'm re-specing Sula (again!!), so she still has the whole romance in front of her. The earring mod! That's what I need to cheer me up.

Yeah.. I also had a bunch of Zevran's leftover poisons from DA:O that kept bumming me out... I'm going to play more Origins now as well, and I probably won't end up running any of my other Origin characters through Awakening... though I might play it again with an Orlesian Warden.
But I finished Awakening... and the epilogue card that mentioned Zev was definitely [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/heart.png[/smilie][smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/heart.png[/smilie]
I never saw that letter anywhere in game... so I'm glad I just read it after Jenovan linked to it, since it was worth seeing even if it ended up getting cut.

@Addai67: He says, "Careful. This one might just go all Zevran on you." It's just a flavor comment so you won't be able to respond to Oghren. You just continue to talk to Howe about his reasons for returning. Oghren will make another comment if you accept Howe and disapprove -6. I think he disapproved of Zevran -5 (give or take) in origins anyway so it still fits. =p

hm. Funny thing about Amalia's travel through the Fade earlier... She'd already gotten Cailan's gear and Duncan's weapons.. And so killed the Fade Duncan with the real Duncan's weapons.

Could be he means a threesome, Nathaniel does make a comment that implies he's down with the guys.
