That's the funny thing, my Warden is still wearing the Cadash Stompers in Awakening.

Hmm, besides the Repeaters, the Gloves of Guile give +2.5 armor penetration, and Katriel's Grasp give +3 crit chance.... s'all I see that looks of interest.

Well you know, rogues like to get you from behind in the dark, with pointy things.  I'm hoping they'll make a joke of it in game eventually.  XD

But yeah... more bisexuals would only be even better!  :D

Id rather have a flat out Gay templar or paladinish type as a romance option you know to subvert the stereotypical white knight saves the damsel type character

Maybe they're just named after her. yeah. Posted Image

Hmm, I haven't had an issue with DLC stuff coming over, buuut I don't think I was using any DLC armor, just weapons and accessories.  I haven't verified that the items' stats still "work", though..

CZ, I NEEDED that!  Ok, squee time!  Zevran really STILL is the sex!    Gah, so sweet.  I think about how when you first start talking to him, he doest trust you, is cold and closed, and yet... you can still start breaking through the icy surface at the very beginning.  And how grateful he is to the warden.  I'm still squeeing over the line:

Zevran: You've been a good friend to me, and more.  More than I deserve.

I know he'll say a line close to that to a friend, but it's later, and has a slightly different feeling.  If he adores you he'll tell you this.  *sigh*

I changed a line in the Zevran wiki, the one that says the relationship turns into an actual romance later in the game.  I think the original author of the wiki never romanced him!  I also changed the "romantic" line listed in the romance section last week from the deadly sex goddess (the other romance partners had their sweetest lines listed and he had THAT one) to the "By your side I'd willingly storm the gates of the dark city.  Do not doubt it."  I was torn between that one and the one where you leave him behind, "In truth, for the chance to be by your side, I'd storm the dark city itself. Never doubt it."  That's actually sweeter, but sad.  I like happy Zevran best!

That romance needs better press for sure!

Ok, I'm squeeing again!  Took some work to kick out the grump but I prefer to squee anyway!

The 'More than I deserve' part gets to me.  For all his bravado you'd never realise he feels that way about himself.  It's rather sad, which of course just makes you want to love him more.  Mr. Gaider knows how to work the heart strings.  He must be a very dangerous man.  lol

Oh, ES, you're not kidding. He is so appreciative of the warden, doesn't think he deserves him/her. Even before the landsmeet, it's so obvious, just by that one line, how deep his feelings run already.

Awakenings is like a nice juicy DLC. I'm going to think of it that way from now on. I think so many of us made the point in the "other" thread that it's the writing and characters that keep us entranced with the game. Hopefully, the next installment will give us more of that. I want to know so much more about all these new characters -- I even like the senechal and the captain as characters--it would be nice to know their backstories as well. It's ok that I don't but it's what we want.

What's sad is that DA:O was such a nice change from work. I work at a state university and our whole lives right now are about tearing apart things and "cheapening education" because the economy sucks, our state politicos are in jail (we STILL don't have our state budget, and It's practically SPRING BREAK). It's heartbreaking that I leave a life of "let's make it cheaper" at work to go home to a gaming life that is "let's make it cheaper". If you are willing to pay for quality, quality LASTS FOREVER.

oh well...

I plan on playing Awakenings with more than one character (probably not with all of them but with some) And I'm having "fun". I will, however, alternate Awakenings and Origins so I get my squee.

EJ I'm maybe going to get done tonight

oh, my cheek! hah, well i almost uploaded an angry face. now that i have the awesome CZ banner to go with it. maybe when i start posting more in the toolset forum. man, that's a dead forum, it's almost not worth it.

i agree CZ. someone who is serious and not there for some comic relief, too. I suppose our talk of KOTOR earlier reminded me of Disciple when you said templar - i don't recall too much from that game, but i do recall thinking he had a sexy voice at the time, and an interesting story. but he was not a romance option, iirc. did that game even have romances? i probably played my usual chaste hero persona =/

on a side note, i am cooking up some Zevran squee~

After the tent scene choose the option 'I thought I seduced you.' or something like that. x3
The way he says minx is just squee square. Posted Image

Edit: this is the second option with a female PC.

To the man he says something like, "O-ho, your seductive charms are so subtle I was not even aware of them. A work of art in motion, perhaps?"

KoTOR2 did have romances not gay ones however

Mical (the disciple) was a romance option for women but...he was pretty bland expecailly when you compare him to the hand maiden who was more intertwined with the plot and just outright better character

ps to clarify something about me wanting a Gay paladin type I do NOT mean a bland cardboard cutout paladin character like Casavir from NWN2 or an annoying ponce like Anomen from BG2

It's not ninja if it's a dwarf?

Male equivalent, btw, IS!

Warden: And here I thought I seduced you.

Zevran: O-ho! Such subtlety in your seductive charms that I was not even aware of them. A work of art in motion, perhaps? (impressed)

Female equivalent, he's (delighted)

Hey guys, that New Dialogue System thread took a very encouraging turn, if you haven't checked up on it.

David Gaider wrote...

MrGOH wrote...

But I understand the appeal, to some, of the camp conversation style of DA:O. I do like to ask questions of the companions, especially if my character would want their input into a decision beyond a brief interjection. I think perhaps implementing some sort of conference or palaver segment during certain points of major questlines in which the PC can ask relevant, but perhaps myriad, questions of the companions regarding (again) relevant world building topics and factors that may affect the party's plan. For example, I'd have liked to ask Alistair about the Templars and mages at the beginning of the Mages' Tower segment in DA:O rather than randomly in camp. Then Alistair's stories and reactions could be tied to some sort of in-game event than a random moonlit conversation. Of course, there could always be a companion-initiated romantic conversation by moonlight, should that be required...

That's an interesting idea, though if you were going to ask Alistair about the Templars at the beginning of the Mage Tower segment it would still require you to click on him to see if he had anything relevant to say -- and if he did, would you not be checking every party member at every major location just in case?

Mind you, if Alistair made some comment that amounted to "Huh, I know a lot about Templars" when you entered the area... that might provide a good cue that eliminated the need for for dialogue-trolling, as it were. Though really it's the difference between clicking on an ambient object to start a conversation and clicking on the party member themselves. But it seems that's a real sticking point for some people. I'm not convinced it's a big issue, but it's something to consider.

Another possibility might be spacing out dialogues in-between major plot points. You don't get to ask said character twenty questions right off the bat, no, but maybe after you complete a plot you could click on them in the camp and ask them about the plot point specifically -- and it leads into something related, perhaps at your option. I'd prefer that to exposition on their background (which is to say I'd prefer to reveal character and background while you are talking to them about something else rather than allowing the player to simply say "Tell me all about your background." Despite the fact that some people seem keen on that, I really do think we're the worse for letting them do it.), and if it was restricted to the camp or somewhere neutral (read: with a set stage so the cinematic designers don't tear their hair out) it might not be so bad so long as the expectation was very clear and there were no exceptions. Again, something to consider.

Romances, of course, are another ball of wax completely. But, yes, I knew that. {smilie}

David Gaider wrote...

Hmm. I will say that "I like the old conversation system, having long talks with the character let me get an insight into their personality and made me feel really close to them, etc etc." is very understandable. Who doesn't like having long talks with characters you like? It is, however, a lot of writing that is inefficient and, yes, expensive. No, you as fans don't have to worry about how expensive it is. I, however, do, and I do have to think about the sort of behavior a conversation system encourages in players -- even if some players (especially the really hardcore ones) enjoyed the end results despite its flaws (and every system has some).

There's food for thought, here. I'll take it into account when I decide how to proceed in the future, so thank you for those who offered their insight. I do, of course, have to add a grain of salt that this is feedback from the bunch that are *most* likely to be biased in favor of the Origins system by virtue of their presence here... but that's not a bad thing at all. Just realize it's one part of what we need to take into account.

So thank you.
